It’s easy to know the truth

September 24, 2018 | 22 comments

I’ve heard people tell me, “It’s hard to pray. It’s hard to know the truth.” And I reply, “No, it’s the other way around. The difficulty you feel is not from knowing truth. It’s from believing in error.”

The effect of knowing one is healthy and well in Spirit is very good. It leaves us feeling healthy and strong. The effect of believing one is a mortal suffering in matter, is miserable. Any struggle we feel does not come from knowing truth. It stems from clinging to error.

The suggestion of “It’s hard to know the truth,” is a cover-up statement for, “I am still believing in error.”

Error, in Christian Science, is any suggestion that life, intelligence or substance exists in matter. If we find it difficult to release this belief, it’s not the belief that is giving us trouble. It’s the ego of mortal mind. Mortal mind takes great pride in its false beliefs. It often revels in saying, “I have a disease. Look at my disease. See how big my suffering is.” It would build up disease as a reality and then cling to its illusion. But we can be wiser.

We can stay metaphysically clear that it’s never hard to know the truth. To know the truth is to declare God’s presence, to accept man’s perfect and harmonious relationship to God, and to know that God is in control of our health and happiness.

To side with God is to let go of error and leave suffering behind.

Mortal mind is not a power that can control our thinking. We are never required to believe in error and its consequences of suffering. As children of God, we reflect the Mind of God which naturally knows truth—all the time!

Know the truth and be free! It’s the easiest route to walk.

  1. Spirit, bearing opposite testimony, saith:
I am Spirit. Man, whose senses are spiritual, is my likeness. He reflects the infinite understanding, for I am Infinity.
    SH 252:31-2
ALSO:If you wish to know the spiritual fact, you can discover it by reversing the material fable, be the fable pro or con, — be it in accord with your preconceptions or utterly contrary to them.
    SH 129:7
So, the material fable is ,”it’s hard to know the truth”
    Thanks, Evan

  2. Yes! Yes!
in Science and Health, (pgs 215 and 406) Mary Baker Eddy writes– using the analogy of how light chases off darkness, (only the absence of light)–: “So sin and sorrow, disease and death, are the suppositional absence of Life, God, and flee as phantoms of error before truth and love.”
I mean, when is Life, God, ever absent? All life and being are manifestations of conscious thought, and when is God, consciously knowing the perfection of Her creation, ever absent from Her creation?
“Resist evil — error of every sort — and it will flee from you.”

I love that image! Don’t give in! Then that monster fear shrinks and shrivels down, trembling, and tears right out of our experience! A flea, fled.

  3. Thank you so much Evan! I am reminded with this being like a shadow on a wall. We can scrub and scrub to get that mark off the wall, but in reality it is not there. It is just a false belief of something that is Not True, altho it sure does Appear to be very real. Your thoughts are so pertinent to the news today where the Truth needs to disavow the false suggestions which Seem to be getting more and more deceiving and distracting to what is really True.

  4. Thank you for this spiritual view. It gives me courage to know the truth in a challenging time. The illusion of disease is trying to occupy my thought but I know God is my life. Truth is my reality and not mortal minds belief. I’m so grateful for Christian Science.

  5. Excellent – perfectly written! When I awaken in early morning hours, I sometimes have a flood of thoughts attempting to invade my thinking about all kinds of topics! Rather than to submit to being annoyed, I dwell on one thought or statement from S&H. Sometimes I go over The Scientific Statement of Being (pg 468 S&H). I affirm God’s presence and power which is here and now and available to all! I mentally shut the door to any other non-productive thoughts that may even be aggressively attempting to enter consciousness. It works every time. God is available and it just takes a second to be in touch with Him! Knowing God is easy (we just struggle to make it difficult sometimes). So grateful to know we can all hear His voice! I continue to learn to release the struggle and “let”. Just “let” God be! He is around us every moment of our day, everywhere we go – so grateful!

  6. Especially love your SV today Evan and each of the follow up comments from everyone that expand the ideas Evan gives us today! Bravo!

  7. Thanks to Evan & all commentators. The Truth expressed is always like the “ still small voice” that heals “every supposed ill.”

  8. The words of Paul from the Holy Bible reinforce Evan’s message:
(or should I say, Evan’s message reinforces Paul’s words? 🙂 The simplicity of the Christ is powerful stuff!

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
    II Cor 11:3

  9. Thanks, Evan, and to all who have shared their inspirations. Knowing the Truth is much more than just declaring it. It is this knowing that sets us free. How grateful I am for these blogs and for Christian Science.

  10. Evan thank you very much for today,s SV.

Yes, ”to side with God is to let go of error and leave suffering behind” – such a wonderful promise and so comforting!

And another gorgious promise comes from Christ Jesus ,,you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” Isn’t that first a wonderful promise ending in a healing reality? I think so!

Am grateful for very helpful, yes and healing SpiritView and for all your gorgious comments!

  11. Wow, Evan! So simple yet so profound. Many thanks for this reminder. So grateful for your steady encouragement and uncovering these errors of thought…revealing them for what they are…nothing.

  12. very true. I often have to ask myself who is talking? Discord and worry is usually mortal mind.
thank you again. we never suffer from the truth, just holding onto the ‘burning pot handle’ of mortal mind. thanks
