Learn to Progress in All Conditions

“We must free ourselves of the hope that the sea will ever rest. We must learn to sail in high winds.”

~ Aristotle Onassis

Jesus Christ learned to “sail in high winds.” Whatever evils of the world were thrown at him, he surmounted them all and sailed on.

We must learn to do the same. Heaven is our home.

  1. Thank you Evan! It’s sometimes easy to fall prey to the belief that once we’ve passed from this existence we’ll go to heaven where everything will be wonderful. But in reading the Christian Science Bible Lesson “Doctrine of Atonement” a few weeks ago it came to me so clearly that that idea is false and the only true path to a realization of heaven is to learn to overcome everything that is contrary to God and His idea. So it’s time to get started NOW as is stated in the quote you’ve shared with us.

I’m not exactly sure what citation from the lesson triggered this thought, but looking back perhaps it was the following statement from Science and Health, page 202, in which it is pointed out we must demonstrate Truth in “life-practice” versus thinking we’ll realize heavenly peace any other way.

“The scientific unity which exists between God and man
must be wrought out in life-practice, and God’s will must
    be universally done.”

  2. Another wonderful, perfect thought to start the day!!! Sometimes it is easy to feel all spiritual and uplifted when we are reading the Bible Lesson, or listening to a Christian Science Daily Lift – but the real test is putting those truths into practice in the midst of the rought seas, or even when it seems that we are in a lion’s den!! Thank you!

  3. Shirley Britton brought out a definite truth when she pointed out that we have to practice what we study in the Bible Lesson. No need to feel guilty if we don’t. It’s the desire to conscienously try to put it into action, and that’s all that God expects.
