Master fear

“We should master fear, instead of cultivating it.”

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 197

If there ever was an opportunity to master fear, this is one of those times! The media is filled with reports that tend to build fear in the public consciousness and cause people to worry about their health and future. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

We can master fear instead of propagating it or becoming victimized by it.

God is Love. We live in the omnipresence of infinite Love. As we stay consciously aware of spiritual reality, fear finds no foothold in our thinking or experience. It goes away.

Jesus Christ thought and lived in the omnipresence of Love. This enabled him to bring heavenly peace to earthly strife. We can do the same.

We don’t have to indulge fear. We don’t have to serve it. We don’t have to fear it. We can master it with God’s reality.

In a consciousness of Love, fear disappears. It is nowhere to be found. Love is all around.

Live in Love, and master fear.

  1. A couple of favourite “Go to’s” that I have always loved when faced by fear.
    Hymn 148 – Alexander Ewing
    In heavenly Love abiding,
    No change my heart shall fear;
    And safe is such confiding,
    For nothing changes here.
    The storm may roar without me,
    My heart may low be laid;
    But God is round about me,
    And can I be dismayed?

    Wherever He may guide me,
    No want shall turn me back;
    My Shepherd is beside me,
    And nothing can I lack.
    His wisdom ever waketh,
    His sight is never dim;
    He knows the way He taketh,
    And I will walk with Him.

    Green pastures are before me,
    Which yet I have not seen;
    Bright skies will soon be o’er me,
    Where darkest clouds have been.
    My hope I cannot measure,
    My path in life is free;
    My Father has my treasure,
    And He will walk with me.

    1. Thank you for sharing the words to this hymn- it does go beautifully with what Evan write above.

    2. Thank you Fay, this is one of my very favorite hymns and goes hand in hand with today’s blog post.

  2. So true Evan. Love masters fear. For me the challenge is to feel Love, every day all day and on some days that feels almost impossible. Even though I know that God is with me all the way.

    1. Peter- At times when I haven’t felt that sense of God’s love, I’ve thought of Christ Jesus, who was His representative on earth; and what he did for us, showed us and sacrificed for us. It truly makes me well up with gratitude, and realize that all that unconditional love he expressed to us came and comes to us now from God. It’s the presence of the Christ, ever holding us and loving us.

  3. Thank you, Evan for this wonderful thought:
    That we are moving, living and breathing in the omnipresence of God, Love. The very same Love that removes the imposition of fear.

  4. Thanks for the wonderful Hymn, Fay. And thank you for your loving care for us all, Evan, with your uplifting SpiritView, assuring us of divine Love`s victory over all what is not coming from our all good God ! Love is the solution for all healing work. Am grateful for this shining pearl, Christian Science 🙂

  5. Gosh Evan your timing for sharing this message is so perfect. I’m finding it very helpful – Thank you very much

  6. Children and adults feel fear when we feel disconnected.. I have found I connect to God best by connecting to the spiritual sense of the world around me.. By gaining deeper friendships, being authentically honest, living meaningfully and always willing to learn..
    When God is felt to be the essence of my human affairs I feel more secure and love based.
    When Divinity “embraces” humanity I feel at peace.

  7. Fear — and hate — disappear in the presence of love. Thank you so much for this, yet another, wonderful Christian Science Treatment. I needed it.

  8. I love this post and the quote- is so helpful! Of course we can only cultivate love- because love is the only real in consciousness! I have a friend/mentor in CS- that taught me how the world teaches us fear. We are born with two human “primary” fears- loud sounds, and falling-all other fears have been learned. We can certainly unlearn what we’ve learned- by “pouring in the truth by flood tides of love.” I love the daily messages Evan, and the community that gathers here. It’s like coming to gather together in church- the structure of Truth and love, and built on the divine Principle of Love. So grateful!

    1. Love your sharing, Christi! One acronym for fear is forgetting everything is all right. We can add that we can’t forget that since God is good and is ALL, that everything is all just, all love, all health, all joy, all purposeful. We can breathe in all God’s qualities and breathe out fears and negative thoughts. As we breathe in the Truth we can share it with all humankind. Truth is an equalizer and can (and IS) healing all inequalities and divisions. Thank You, Father and Mother!!

  9. Thank you all for such comforting thoughts. I have found there are many sources of alternative news out there that often share such enlightening and helpful messages that counteract the fear that the major sites tend to parrot and bombard with, giving more positive views, outlooks and solutions, sometimes in the most unexpected ways. So many folks are turning away from believing in lies of the mortal viewpoint and searching for the Truth that we are so fortunate to have discovered, share here and continue to learn from, in our ongoing quest for proof of God’s Love, combatting fear, in our every day lives. I cherish the support shared here!

  10. Yesterday’s Daily Lift Removing Fear is also excellent on this subject. Thank you Evan, and blessings, worldwide spiritual thinkers!

  11. Thank you Evan for a wonderful post. It’s so important to keep our thought on the Truth of our being , the perfect reflection of everything good and precious. Not to get embroiled in human fears and opinions, but keep in mind what we know….’ God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power. of love and of a sound mind.’ 2Timothy 1 ;7
    Blessings to all❣️

  12. “The starting point of C.S. Is love.”
    Evan & contributors, thank you for each loving idea that is expressed. Support in our journey is such a blessing.
    Vaya con Dios, everyone!

  13. A wonderful post ! thank you Evan. ” As we stay consciously aware of spiritual reality, fear finds no foothold in our thinking or experience. It goes away.” I love this sentence, so true, I had the opportunity to experience it.
    Thank you Angie for the link to the article wihich relates banishing fear to healing.

  14. I’d like to share a beautiful demonstration that has occurred today.
    My sons family has come to visit with one of my grand daughters, aged 14, who is having very fearful episodes which claim to impact her life at present. To the extent that today she wouldn’t come out from her room to join in with the family. At the same time my other son, who lives next door came in angry and frustrated over a business deal which should have been completed but was hovering towards breakdown with financial consequences. I read SV and the lesson looking for some guidance when hymn 253 came to mind. The part that I remembered was’ and o‘er earths angry ,troubled sea, I saw Christ walk and come to me and lovingly divinely talk!’ Well I didn’t let this fear in both families over shadow my complete faith that Gods law of Love and harmony is operating right here ,right now.
    As I type this my son has said his business deal has completed and my grand daughter has gone off to town with her cousin for some retail therapy! I cannot say how wonderful it is to see fear overcome so positively . Gods work is complete and I am so grateful for Christian Science.❣️

  15. Thank you, Evan, for your vital, spiritual treatment on fear. Just LOVE the precious photo of the child holding hands w her parents. We can go out today doing the same with our heavenly Parent on each side of us. Such beautiful imagery!!

  16. Thank you, Evan, and those who shared helpful comments.
    I agree that hymns are such beautiful, healing messages. A hymn I particularly love is 53:

    “Everlasting arms of Love
    Are beneath, around, above;
    God It is who bears us on,
    His the arm we lean upon.

    He our ever-present guide
    Faithful is, what’re betide;
    Gladly then we journey on,
    With His arm to lean upon.

    From earth’s fears and vain alarms
    Safe in His encircling arms,
    He will keep us all the way,
    God, our refuge, strength and stay.

  17. Thank you! Today’s inspiration from SpiritView, the Daily Lift, and the Christian Science bilble lesson on Love are like a harmonious flow of music. Love is all, all, even right where there seems to be chaos, hate, fear, and all the other junk. We are being called to look beyond the false, temporary, limited picture of things to God, all good. Life is Good! The Truth is simple. Joy and satisfaction are all around. Let’s be light and lifted.

  18. I can’t thank all of you enough who have shared your experiences and inspirations. I love and rely on the hymns heavily and all referred to here are among my favorites. What a blessing this blog is and a great start to, and continuing throughtout, the day!

  19. Thank you, Evan and everyone for sharing thoughts on this important topic. I have often turned to Isaiah 41:10 to combat fear: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Affirming that God, infinite Love, is with me and everyone, present here and now, loosens the grip of anxiety and fear and allows me to entertain angel thoughts that bring healing and harmony.

  20. Thank you so much. I conquered fear. Fear does not have power because God is all around me filling all space. Fear has no space.
