Mind remembers

If you’re ever concerned with memory issues, it helps to remember the truth about memory. Memory is not a temporal faculty of the brain. It’s an eternal faculty of the divine Mind. The one Mind never forgets anything important. The one Mind remembers whatever needs to be remembered!

Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “If delusion says, ‘I have lost my memory,’ contradict it. No faculty of Mind is lost. In Science, all being is eternal, spiritual, perfect, harmonious in every action” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 407).

As a child of God, you reflect the Mind of God. You reflect the harmonious action of the one Mind, which includes an unfailing memory.

Mind never forgets. Mind knows what needs to be known. Mind remembers relevant facts. Mind never loses track of details. Mind has a perfect memory.

As a reflection of the one Mind, you have a perfect memory. You know what you need to know when you need to know it.

Mind remembers, and so do you.

  1. When I occasionally seem to not be able to remember something, I turn to the all-knowing Mind, and ask God to tell me what I need to know. Sometimes the answer comes quite quickly, but
sometimes a takes a while – but it always comes. As I leave it with God, and turn away from the question, the answer suddenly will pop into my mind.

It has helped me to remember that I used to do cryptic crosswords, and having thought about
the clue from this way and from the, I have left it. Then suddenly, when I am not expecting it,
the answer will come – sometimes in the middle of the night! There is nothing that God cannot
answer – and that is always the right answer.

The Divine Mind has the answer to everything we need to know, and we can be assured that
we can never be under the influence of the world beliefs that there is a mortal mind that
can forget or become senile. This Lesson on Mind addresses all of these fears. We
have an immortal memory, and we can claim it.

I am so grateful for the teachings of ChristianScience and for SpiritView, and for all that
share inspiration here. Thank you Evan and all.

  2. Great picture up top today, it shows the infinitude and beauty and harmony of true Mind, divine Mind.

I’ve heard it said that we are on a “need-to-know” basis with God. He will show us what we need to know, when we need to know it, not sooner and not later. This perfect timing does not always coincide with a mortal sense of when we think we need to know something. (or whether we need to know it at all). ‘More will be revealed’ as we turn to Him.

When we can’t find a “lost” item or can’t remember something important, it’s wonderful to know we can do as Maggie mentions above and humbly ask for God’s guidance, knowing He doesn’t leave us lacking anything.

  3. I feel that we so need to know that we have One Mind especially when everything tells you otherwise. My mornings blessings from all of you, I am truly humbled by Grace.

  4. I try to make it a habit or dedication that whenever I leave the house I affirm “Divine Mind is always telling each and every being everything they need to know when and how they need to know it in the form and terms they can best understand and act upon, and giving them the willingness and the ability and the joy of knowing it and obeying it .” Then I like to look for evidence of that.

Our first night at a new home and a new neighborhood our dog got out, and I thought got lost and scared, but I affirmed this, and after finding her nowhere for what seemed a long time and distance, when we were silent she soon came trotting up to us happy. Same thing when the child ran away in an autistic meltdown during a major storm in a busy city at night time, where we had never been in that country before, and then she came back when the police were telling us that there was a violent bear that was roaming in the area and it was also unsafe to be outside in the dangerous winds. I celebrate that when I am in a parking lot whether or not I think I know where my car is and especially whenever I see someone looking for a parking spot or looking for their car and then I see them suddenly find what they wanted and seeing them express happy surprise. I know it’s power when I see someone look like they’re going to fall and then I can call out to them, “good recovery!”.

I trusted that as a teacher and would enjoy the students make a breakthrough (getting past limitations their parents and professionals thought was impossible.) I like cherishing that with patients who are labeled as having Alzheimer’s or some timers, and then we have a very cogent clear, mutually enjoyable conversations, as they are clearly in their right mind with present awareness and coordination, sound reasoning, emotional control, relevant and enjoyable memories, and good storytelling.

It reminds me to not rush myself, or others to come to a memory, or a reasoning, conclusion, but to give each other, trusting and expressing the grace of Mind. As a field biologist, I love celebrating what Mary Baker Eddy said— “All of nature is teaching God’s love for [all]” and then I noticed a mutually beneficial relationship between organisms. Or a new pattern in which trees are growing together or how plants will move into an area just before they are needed by people for a new problem in that area or how those organisms are right where the humans and most need them, such as certain mosses, where women would be washing their babies and their clothing and then use those for baby padding and diapers. Or lichen needed, where one needs that abrasive cleaning action that’s durable but doesn’t damage the container, or the sword fern spores next to the stinging nettle to remove its sting. A foreign plant from across the world, coming into an area to clean up the industrial air pollution, and provide food and shelter for the native bees when cell phone towers and pesticides and climate change would otherwise make them extinct.

Someone telling me how they were protected during a war by the supposed enemy they later met to each one surprise in a different country with a Mutual love and inspiration.

Recently, I had a reason to share with someone examples of following that leading. As she and I were walking, I saw a bench in someone’s yard by the sidewalk that reminded me of a relevant experience of how a man and I who never knew of each other before were each in a neighborhood we had never been in before at the right timing to meet each other and for me to share with him testimonies that were exactly what he needed to prevent him from committing suicide, and then, when we could no longer walk, and he was overcome, and had to collapse, and I wanted to have us sit, still facing each other …unexpectedly, and uncharacteristically there suddenly was a bench on the side of the road where we were walking and needed to sit. Even for months there after he cut and years after he kept saying how it was all miraculous that I was an angel from Allah and my daughter thought it was miraculous how he had visibly physically changed from the beginning of the walk and she and I who have been desperate to get to a toilet before that long interruption, not wet our pants and I was able to walk for however, long I’m broken bones in my feet without distraction, and I thought it was rather miraculous that it’s ever freaking out that I have banded her in a car parked at a bad location when she was in a hurry to get to the toilet, and then to a class, she, instead was happily singing hymns, and saw a miracle that brought us closer together.

I like looking for that demonstration that each plant, animal, fungi, virus, bacteria, etc. is in its right place and timing with its right work, and right resources and right knowing and right acting to thrive and bless. I like writing down some of those examples of that day each night before I go to sleep and celebrate the one gracious Mind in control blessing all.

  5. I agree that the image Evan has used today is so beautiful & evocative! This subject is one I’ve been really working in lately, refuting the notion that I couid ever lose memory. Thrn im reminded that long ago, as a college student, in preparing for an exam, rather than fretting about “not remembering” or having the knowledge to answer correctly, I affirmed that my One Mind, my Source, had supplied the questions to each problem in the exam, and therefore provided the answers. When I prepared my thinking beforehand with this assurance, I did very well indeed.
And now, decades later, I feel the same confidence that God will reveal something – an unknown fact, an unresolved issue, a seemingly misplaced item, etc- as I relax & simply acknowledge God’s knowing. I must be the patient, receptive recipient, as I am the eager, grateful receiver of God’s great and generosity.

  6. I have been finding lately that One Mind is guiding, directing, giving us
joy, if we are open to accepting these wonderful expressions into our
heart. So many times, things just connect, when really bringing God,
Love’s ever presence into thought. As in the beautiful painting above,
with vibrant colors, inspiration arises within us in a timeless pouring
forth of such harmony. A lovely day to all

  7. There seems to be a glitch in the website as it seems to not be posting, but then
finally it does. Oh well, sending even More Love to all lol : )

    1. Carol I had the same experience of the posts not appearing, then showing up a little later. Thanks for, “…even More Love to all.”

Yes lots of Love, Love Love to this dear SV family on this Valentine’s Day! May our love and our clear healing thoughts reach around the world to all who need them.

  8. I love todays thoughts from you Evan, and the comments, even the comments about the website seeming to not be responding are perfect.

A few years ago I discovered that when my memory seemed to me failing me now and again, if I simply relaxed and waited for a few moments, the name I wished to remember would rise up into my thinking. More importantly to me though was when I’d forget how to do some process that I’d known for years. Again I discovered that when I wait, without any fear, a new, and always better, way to approach the problem appears in my mind. It makes me laugh. God is teaching us to trust Hir guidance, and it’s always good, always available!

  9. The common view of memory is like a big box that we put things in over time so that we can retrieve them later. Then as we mature we may think the box gets filled up and in order to put a new memory in the box an old memory has to be removed (forgotten). And the common view is that each person has their own “box” of memories. But when reading one of the reminiscences of a worker in Mrs. Eddy’s home, I was struck by the writer telling how Mrs. Eddy expected the workers in her home to be able to find anything she asked them to find…even if they had never seen it before or had any previously knowledge of where the item was stored.

When we realize that there is one Mind, then it’s natural to understand that a) our memory is not like a finite box, but is instead infinite because God, Mind is infinite…and b) we aren’t limited to just remembering what we’ve previously known and instead can be open to receiving any bit of information we need.

I had an example of this back in college. A man from church invited the members of the Christian Science College Organization to an outing at a lake about 30 miles from town. When I arrived most everyone was already there. We had an enjoyable day but when it came time to leave, the man that organized the outing couldn’t find his car keys. So we all started looking around the picnic area and surrounding area. After looking a few minutes it came to me clearly that I could pray about this. So I sat down at a picnic table and realized that their was only one Mind and therefore that Mind knew where the keys were and therefore I could also know. In a very short time, maybe 3-5 minutes, it was like a picture of where the keys were came to thought. I walked over to the car and the keys were right where I pictured. They interesting point here is that I never had seen these keys before, so it wasn’t like I remembered something I previously knew. It was as if a memory of the man that lost the keys was revealed to me. Materially speaking that would be impossible since there would be no way his memory could be transferred to me. But from a spiritual paradigm what happened was quite natural…something the one Mind knew was revealed to me because I reflect that Mind and therefore I can know whatever I need to know that Mind knows.. .

    1. In case anyone would like the reference to the reminiscence of the worker in Mrs. Eddy’s home I mentioned in my comment, it is from the “We Knew Mary Baker Eddy” expanded edition Volume 1, page 476. I didn’t have time to look for this before I posted yesterday. The text from this book I referenced is below:
      ————–
Mrs. Eddy expected me to know where everything was in the house, even though she had not seen it herself for years. And why not, when consciousness includes all. She taught me that there was only one consciousness, and that this consciousness was my consciousness and included all ideas as present and at hand, and she expected me to demonstrate it.
      ————–

Another example from the Bible that teaches we are able to discern something without having previously known it that came to me is the story from the book of Daniel 2 where Daniel is able to interpret the King’s dream without the King being able to tell Daniel the dream. You can read Daniel 2 using the link below:

  10. Thank you RH, your Post reminded me of a time I needed to find an important paper. Fear tried to convince me I couldn’t find it … I searched my “special keep safe drawer”, many times … fear once again blinded me and it was not found. After looking all over my house, to no avail I was lead to sit down and quiet my thought. “Thank you Father” I sat down on the foot of my bed, got quiet and said “out loud”…Father I know you know where it is …. IMMEDIATELY, I got up and opened that same drawer I had looked in many times and there it was, sitting right on top. I then realized it was the fear which had kept my eyes from seeing it, as it not only was there but right on Top!!!! I learned a good lesson from this experience and Never again have I had another experience like this, KNOWING God always Sees and Knows All, and because I reflect this Mind as His spiritual child, I can also know what I need to know and see what I need to see right now. So if something “seems” to be “out of my sight”, I stand fast against that feartrying to scare me, and it has worked every time!!!
Thanks to Evan, who always expresses the One Mind, he is able to write these wonderful blogs that we each have said many times before … “ how did Evan know this is just what I needed or Evan must have written this just for me”
Thank you always Evan and Thank you commenters too!
    Have a beautiful day, Friends❤️

  11. Thank you dear Evan for this important topic. I love the statement in SH which we read in this week’s lesson, namely that God gives the uplifting conciousness which leads into all Truth. So in that sense. “Mind remembers and so do we” such a comforting and healing truth.

Dear SpiritView friends, I think Evan doesn’t mind that I joyfully inform you about the wonderful article “To love an enemy” which Evan wrote and which is published in the February 6, 23 Sentinel. I would recommend to read this very inspiring article which lets me feel the love of God to everybody! Evan, thank you very much for the loving metaphysics in this uplifting article!

  12. Thank you, Evan, for this beautiful and timely reminder. As I continue to age, my mortal mind is having more and more trouble bringing things to the surface, but when I truly need to remember something it is always right there. I need to remember this when I’m trying to remember the name of an old friend and it just won’t “come to me” until some time later!

And one small blessing from a year or so when hubby was in the hospital for surgery and “lost” his hearing aids. He was extremely upset and told the young nurse his problem. A minute or so later she brought his hearing aids to him. He said “How did you find them?” and her reply was “I asked Jesus where they were and he led me right to them.” You don’t have to be a Christian Scientist to totally trust our Father/Mother God – the TRUE MIND!
