No long-term development of evil

February 20, 2013 | 11 comments

I overheard a man fill a listener with fear by explaining how some diseases develop undetected in the human body for ten or twenty years and then suddenly surface when it’s too late to do anything about them.
Protest!! Protest!!! My mental gears started a-whirring…
I vehemently objected to what I heard, and sent silent mental affirmations of truth back in his direction to negate the harm his vocalized beliefs were doing to the unsuspecting thought.
It was a mental wake-up call. He certainly was not alone in his belief. Medical professionals regularly preach such concerns and fears about disease. And hundreds of millions of people live in fear because of them. And, as one learns in Christian Science, the fear itself can lead to the disease.
This should not be! And it won’t, if one takes proper preventative mental care to stop such belief from lodging in his thought.
There are many different aspects of this belief that need to be addressed and undone. But one is the underlying affirmation that evil, aka disease, is a normal part of life. That evil operates in many different ways, including hidden ways, that can’t be detected or seen until harm is done.
This is not true. Evil cannot operate undetected. Evil cannot run carte blanche all over our thinking without us realizing it. It can be seen for the lie it is and cast out with spiritual truth. Spiritual alertness, attentiveness, and honesty with one’s thoughts keep unwanted intruders out.
Another lie to cast out includes the belief that evil develops in degrees over the long term. In the omnipresence of God, evil does not develop. It is denied and destroyed. But we need to stay prayerfully in the omnipresence of God to make this demonstration.
Another lie is the belief that disease exists in man. This is not true. Man is God’s image. God never harbors a disease. God’s image does not harbor a disease either—ever.
And the list could go on. Please continue on your own, and don’t accept for a mini-second that something evil can exist or dwell in a creation as pure, healthy, good, wholesome and perfect as you—God’s immaculate image!

  1. Thank you for your prompt posting on the verbal “decree.” Even if fear creeps in when we hear something like this, God is the only lawmaker. We aren’t “sunk,” if in the face of a declaration like that man made, we find ourselves afraid. Paul Stark Seely’s article “Right When– Right Then” speaks to these fundamental truths, showing why “right when” evil says it started or scared us, “right then”
man’s unbroken continuity as God’s witness was the fact. (Anthology of Classic Articles I). Thank you Evan, for all you write!

  2. “Protest! Protest!” I love that, Evan! And then the prayerful work begins…protesting, denying, and replacing with truth the lies that world thought conjures up. It does require attention to what we are accepting as “gospel”, doesn’t it? And declaring that health is NORMAL, and disease is not! At any age and stage! Thank you for this strong reminder to stay alert and do our daily protective work to guard thought and thus, body! PROTEST, PROTEST! PRAY! PRAY! And then as Michelle Nanouche, CS from Paris said in a recent Daily Lift:
    AMEN! (w/finality and conviction!)

  3. Oh, BOY! Evan. This had to be said. Today, more than ever, the Medical Profession through the media screams loud and clear of all the horrors of eating this and eating that creates disease. The worst part is that people believe all this stuff. I was born in 1936. Nothing about foods one should eat or not to eat. How much exercise one should do or not do. People were healthier then. But after the sixties, talk about diseases on TV became rampant. In fact a new disease came out every year and people just ran to get it. It was like buying a new car. If this keeps up, the human race will destroy itself without the help of Terrorists. STOP IT NOW!

  4. Thanks for this post. Good to know we don’t have to accept this, and in so rejecting it, our understanding is strengthened. I’m glad to be receiving your blog entries. thanks so much.

  5. Protest! Protest! Pray! Thanks again Evan for the reminder. I read what my friends post in their Timelines and there’s a lot of stuff divine Science doesn’t agree with like as Tobias has mentioned about what foods to eat and what not to, etc. Some ads say eat this but it is contradicted by another promoter. Mostly I don’t protest with prayer, I just ignore them and be sure I am not being influenced. Now I need to pray right about it. I guess I’ve been too self-ish keeping the good just for me.

  6. Thanks for an important post, Evan. In this connection, I often think of the lines from hymn 26,”Our God is All; in space No subtle error creeps;” Nor creeps in either body or thought!

  7. Yes! I agree that needed to be said. It is so important to “Stand porter at the door of thought” as Mary Baker Eddy tells us. Reject, reject, reject all the stupid propaganda that bombards us so constantly. Only one Mind, God, governs us, but we need to be alert!

Thank you so much, Evan, for your daily blogs. They are such a help!

  8. A flyer came to my house in the mail. It was from a veterinarian. The article was what to feed your dog. Never certain foods, and never blueberries, as poisonous to dogs.
There was 1/4 page ad above it for new dog food, with special ingredients, including blueberries!

God loves His doggies, and thankfully they don’t read.

Thank you for the vigorous rebuttal.a

  9. Thanks Evan. These well meaning comments are becoming so pervasive. I was shopping at the grocery store, and instead of soothing music, I was warned about the latest disease to watch for. I will be more diligent in denying and affirming.605
