Pray ahead of time

If prayer can help you out of trouble, it certainly helps to keep you out of trouble!

Don’t wait until an emergency to pray. Pray ahead of time and prevent emergencies!

  1. Hymn 53
    Everlasting arms of Love
    Are beneath, around, above;
God it is that bears us on,
His the arm we lean upon.

    He our ever-present guide
    Faithful is, whate’er betide;
    Gladly then we journey on,
With His arm to lean upon.

From earth’s fears and vain alarms
    Safe in His encircling arms,
He will keep us all the way,
God our refuge, strength, and stay.

  2. So, important. Evan. Thank you for the reminder.

I can’t thank you enough for SpriitView. It provides wonderful inspiration and is a great way to begin my prayerful work each morning.

  3. As a new student of Christian Science, I was instructed by a beautiful and experienced Christian Scientist to “stay all prayed up,” to be ready and alert for anything.
Thank you, Evan, for your reminders each day to stay “all prayed up!”
    Love

  4. As a confirmation of this invaluable advice, I’ll share a testimony of Christian Science healing. Several weeks ago, as I was praying to see the unreality of fear and the fear of disease, based on the allness of divine Love, I was awakened in the middle of the night for two nights with the sensation of an irregular heartbeat. I prayed and went back to sleep. On the second morning an angel thought came to me that I needed to also be seeing the unreality of the fear of death. That was the end of the problem. Yesterday morning I wakened with symptoms of fever. Before even opening my eyes, I rebuked the sensation, following Christ Jesus’ example, and immediately felt normal and healthy.

To me, these examples of Christian healing show that our prayers for the world help us, and our prayers for ourselves also help the world. God is Love. And that’s all there is.

    1. Thank you for your testimony, Carolyne! Such a perfect example of how powerful our daily prayers for ourselves and the world can be!

  5. We have been encouraged and counseled to pray ahead of time and to follow this daily. Paul in the Bible included these ideas– ” Rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing… in every thing give thanks…” found in 1 Thessalonians 4. Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health wrote, ” The habitual struggle to be always good is unceasing prayer.” (SH 4:12–13) I have found this to be a wonderful guide and practice in my life. Also the Daily Prayer: “Thy kingdom come;” let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them! (Man. 41:19 ) Prayerfully pondering this each day, praying with these ideas among others & endeavoring to dig into these ideas and exploring the meanings of each word & expanding them in thought have been and remain a necessity to getting my day launched. I helps me maintain a sense of connection to my Father Mother God.. This practice keeps thought ready and alert to reject confusion, illness & fear etc. and replace these ideas with calmness, peace, wholeness and well being. Divine Love alone governs me and everyone else! Thanks for everyone sharing ideas today!

  6. Thanks Evan for all these SpiritView messages, and for this one — and all of you who share comments and your testimonies!
The Bible reassures us –that even as we pray, God is there first, and says–
“Before they call I will hear them,
and while they are yet speaking I will hear.”

Also in Mrs. Eddy’s hymn “Mother’s Evening Prayer is this promise
“O gentle presence, peace and joy and power,
O Life divine that OWNS EACH WAITING HOUR!……”

  7. I have been working with the Lord’s Prayer for a while. Also Proverb 35. Trust in the Lord, etc.
I was speaking to a co worker. She told me when she started the job she took at least 20 prayer breaks a day, She is rather new with us and I know she is working on yoga and spiritual pursuits.
I work on the floor directly below her. Funny. I call them God breaks, and yes, many times a day.

  8. From the Mary Baker Library, Accession: L02891
    Jan. 2, 1900
    To Watchers
“Hear O Israel, for the Lord our God is one[underlined] God”
You are not to come in your own name to pray, you are not to try to control any mind
You are only to come in the Divine strength and know that God will rule and does, and
that hypnotisim [sic] and evil minds cannot and do not control men nor governments.
All power is God, good. [sentence underlined]
This is my only formula to Christian Scientists for prayer; and God will give you faith that can remove mountains.

    1. Thank you for sharing the message contained in an, I presume, unpublished document available at the Mary Baker Eddy Library. She wrote many letters to people addressing specific times and subjects. The reminder that God does indeed rule now, and that evil minds and ideas can not control any mind, man or government is a clarifying & important message. Our job is to pray with inspiration from the one and only Divine strength, our Father-Mother God. All power is God, good… period!

    2. Thank you for sharing this gem Janbr.

It reminds me of a helpful quote I found sometime ago. Not sure of it’s origin. It may be from a Sentinel article.

“It’s not our job to control anybody or anything…our only job is to love, love unconditionally.”

  9. Thank you Janbar! I especially love the line: “hypnotism and evil minds cannot control man and governments”
    Rather timely!

  10. What a great thought! I can’t believe it has taken me this many decades to learn that! I am trying to preface everything with prayer and doing much better than I ever did, although not perfect!
