Protect your identity

Reports of identity theft are too frequent today.  International banks and major retailers losing social security numbers to hackers, individuals having their computers hacked into, vital information lifted from papers getting into the wrong hands, and more – have led to a multitude of bad experiences for victims of these crimes.

The issue is so widespread that it is a call upon all Truth-warriors to gird arms and pray in earnest for humanity’s exemption from identity fraud and abuse.

One victim of malicious identity fraud said to me, “I can’t believe someone would do this to me!” She was a good person, working hard to live an honest life of integrity and responsibility, and to have someone abuse her in such an evil way made her incredulous.

But we must not be caught by surprise. Evil would work in tricky ways to catch the unwary off guard. Let us not be unwary!

“Be wise as serpents,” Jesus wisely counseled.

In my prayers for mankind’s protection, I’ve valued Mary Baker Eddy’s statement, “God is the Life, or intelligence, which forms and preserves the individuality and identity of animals as well as of men.”

This statement tells me that there are laws of God in operation that protect our identity from theft.

Identity is not a government ID number. It is not on paper, exposed on the Internet, or up for grabs by whomever finds it. It is spiritual. It’s how God knows us in divine Mind, and it can never be robbed, stolen, abused, or taken away.

I also find peace in knowing that God’s laws of justice and equity foul up evildoers’ plans. Hackers do not have free license to do as they will. They might think they do, but there is a higher power of divine Principle at work on this planet that thwarts their efforts, exposes their intent, obstructs their efforts, defeats their purpose, and stops them cold.

I still have more to pray about this, but I am “on it!”

What about you? What have your prayers been?

  1. What I have prayed about is that Americans will not remain apathetic and ignorant about attempts not only of illegal hackers’ identity theft but also of hidden efforts by their own government to invade their privacy and spy on them via the Internet.

I sense that malicious animal magnetism is lulling citizens to sleep, and is causing them to react this way, as described by Mary Baker Eddy on p. 211 of her book Miscellany, in an article titled WAYS THAT ARE VAIN:

Certain individuals entertain the notion that Christian Science Mind-healing should be two-sided, and only denounce error in general, — saying nothing, in particular, of error that is damning men. They are sticklers for a false, convenient peace, straining at gnats and swallowing camels. The unseen wrong to individuals and society they are too cowardly, too ignorant, or too wicked to uncover, and excuse themselves by denying that this evil exists. This mistaken way, of hiding sin in order to maintain harmony, has licensed evil, allowing it first to smoulder, and then break out in devouring flames. All that error asks is to be let alone; even as in Jesus’ time the unclean spirits cried out, “Let us alone; what have we to do with thee?”

BTW, I smiled, Evan when I read in your blog that “God’s laws of justice and equity fowl up evildoers’ plans.” Must be you’re thinking about the animals — specifically, chickens — mentioned in the MBE sentence you previously quoted! 🙂

  2. This is what I needed to hear as I just had my debit card number stolen for the second time in a year The day I discovered it, a friend shared Hymn 221 from the Christian Science hymnal with me (third verse):

    Thy kingdom, God within us
    Shows for Love’s sweet control.
    God’s idea, man, rejoices;
He knows the reign of Soul.

I worked with those ideas and found peace knowing that Love is in control and that Soul reigns. There is no rampant lawlessness and disorder among God’s children. Man is made in God’s image and likeness — the reflection of Truth — therefore, he is honest, upright, and good.

I also have been working with this idea from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Whoever uses his developed mental powers like an escaped felon to commit fresh atrocities as opportunity occurs is never safe. God will arrest him. Divine justice will manacle him.” (S&H, p. 205)

Criminal activity does not make man happy or free. Divine Mind is all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting. God corrects and governs.

Thank you for addressing this issue, Evan. I will keep praying about it, too.

    Susan

PS I will be much ‘wiser’ about debit card use from now on.

  3. I’ve for years thought from Recapitulation, that “Identity is the reflection of Spirit, the reflection in multifarious forms of the living Principle, Love.” No one can take away what is mine/me, as a spiritual idea, as no one can remove an image from a mirror. So, even as I take the usual precautions, am staying mindful that who I am as God’s child, including all that I “own,” possess by reflection cannot be stolen, or lost. That’s helped me stay calm every time I “seem” to lose something, and it comes back. And, like to remind myself, there are no thieves in God’s kingdom and that’s the only Kingdom there is.

    Thanks much Evan,

    Sancy

  4. Aside from credit cards and Social Security numbers, this concept of identity can also be seen as refering to jobs, relationships, health, etc., for our God-given and God-protected identity applies to every detail of our lives. Thus our true, spiritual, perfect, immortal identity can never be disturbed, dis-eased or destroyed.

  5. This made me think of a favorite citation from page 215 in S&H: “WHATEVER IS GOVERNED BY GOD IS NEVER FOR AN INSTANT DEPRIVED of the light and might of intelligence and Life.” We are each permanently blessed with our one, true, God-given identity which consists of all the inexhaustible, immortal qualities of God. Thus no one can ever steal (deprive us of) our health, peace, strength, mobility, understanding, focus, confidence, freedom, comfort, lovingkindness, integrity, joy, etc. Our true, spiritual identity is forever intact and safe.

  6. I’ve been confronted with this issue in the past having my credit card number stolen. Hackers not. But I’ve been thinking alot about a verse in My 270:3: “The cycle of good obliterates the epicycle of evil.” I know Eddy’s meticulousness in choosing just the right words. My thought in her choice of cycle and epicycle was the immensity of cycle in terms of its series of flowing good versus the smallness of evil in its inability to ever gain any momentum to perpetuate itself. The belief of “organized crime” is a cancellation of its own self since what is destructive could never be organized. So, I figure, let me not be deceived by crime in any form could present itself as organized and sneak through our radars of alertness as organized. The imposter can’t take on a spiritual quality that doesn’t belong to it and I can’t be deceived to think it can. Good is constant, fixed and everpresent obliterating any speck of criminal activity.
