Put off the old for the new

“When outgrowing the old, you should not fear to put on the new.”

~ Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 452

If you’d like to advance rapidly in the New Year, be ready and willing to part with old and cumbersome ways of thinking and acting that do not serve your best interest. Drop what is unnecessary like shedding extra weight you don’t need when hiking a steep ascent. Only carry what you absolutely need to succeed!

  1. Yes very often we do carry those unnecessary weights of moroseness, hurt feelings, stress, fear of future, which we need to shed, if we want to make progress. These weights and burdens which we carry are not worth carrying and they slow down our growth, our God given joy, our freedom, our zest for life.
It takes effort and prayers to leave all our burdens at Christ’s feet and fearlessly put on the new man. A very dear friend always says that we need to be close to God and tune in to His messages to lead a carefree and happy life, a life which is less cumbersome and more renewed.

  2. Hymn 136:2 Though storm or discord cross my path Thy power is still my stay, Though human will and woe would check My upward-soaring way; All unafraid I wait, the while Thy angels bring release, For still Thy presence is with me, And Thou dost give me peace. (Christian Science Hymnal).

Thank you for this reminder, Evan, to let go of the earth weights ( woe, fear, human will etc etc) and allow the angels of His presence to bring us release and peace .

  3. C/S isn’t made of dogma religious hogwash. It’s a system of bringing in new ideas which truley blesses instead of compresses. It releases old to accept new. Maybe that’s why it took thousands of years for mankind to invent to make lives better. It was the hold of religious dogma that made man slaves to the old. We still have a lot to do and no time to give up what has been started. The great red dragon of mortal mind is starting to crumble. Thank GOD for that!

  4. Yes! We need to be willing to:…….”Let Christian Science instead of corporeal sense support your understanding of being…….” That’s a Big Letting Go of the old, mortal mind way of perceiving and allowing the new Christianly Scientific way of viewing Life to take over! Yahoooo!

  5. How timely this is. I gave the readings last night at our Testimony Meeting and my subject was “ALL THINGS NEW” and I closed with Hymn 218, “O Life that makes all things new, The blooming earth, the thoughts of men; … And I was so very grateful to have one member testify that she was healed during this service.
