See health as catching, not disease

March 18, 2021 | 9 comments

Too many people fear catching a disease when exposed to disease in public places. Why not catch health instead?

Mary Baker Eddy makes some probing points in this paragraph:

“People believe in infectious and contagious diseases, and that any one is liable to have them under certain predisposing or exciting causes. This mental state prepares one to have any disease whenever there appear the circumstances which he believes produce it. If he believed as sincerely that health is catching when exposed to contact with healthy people, he would catch their state of feeling quite as surely and with better effect than he does the sick man’s” (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 228)

Health is a state of Mind, not of matter. Disease is a fear of mortal mind. Both are mental.

The first is a state of divine Mind. The second is a false belief of mortal mind.

If you are prone to believe that one catches something from others, then for your own sake, believe in catching only the good stuff! Be open only to receiving health from the divine Mind. There is no necessity or requirement to pick up anything, especially fear, from mortal mind.

See God as the only influencer over your health, never matter, and stay healthy. It’s the happier way to live.

  1. Beautiful idea, catching health from God’s always healthy reflections. The only thing truly circulating among and between the children of God is goodness, no harm, just harmony. The lies of error crushed by Truth. As expressions of the One Mind, we have a natural ability to entertain good thoughts free from fear. Catching only right ideas straight from God!

“Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist (reject) all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate (diminish) the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.” (S&H p. 393)

  2. Dear Rose, thank you very much for your good spiritual ideas enriching Evan’s wonderful spiritual views on this special situation. Thank you so much dear Evan for the very helpful thoughts. Such ideas are very needed and I like to ponder it prayerfully.

  3. Mary Baker Eddy writes: “Beloved Christian Scientists keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love that sin, disease and death cannot enter them.” She goes on to say: “Good thoughts are an impervious armor…” from First Church and Miscellany

  4. A note of gratitude, Evan. A very senior friend who lives in a care facility had taken a fall yesterday, and I spent 3 or 4 hours in the hospital with her why she got checked out. During that time we watched Spiritview vlogs on my smart phone. What a joy! Very calming and uplifting. All was well and she was released and home again. Thank you, Evan. Thank you, fellow students of Christian Science. And thank you, God.

  5. Had TV repair man yesterday and had to wear ask and distance.
This fear mania is. What to watch against. It seems to be a constant these days.. AHYMN SAYS”Let not fear, four thoughts employ”
Good advice as well as Evan’s and Mary Baker Eddy’s.

  6. When we use quotes from our Leaders writings, her name is included as well as the name of the book. Just something to share.
I love these blogs and vlogs. And how everyone shares the good in their practice. As we claim the good that is ours by reflection, that expression blesses one and all. God, good fills all space. So there is no place where error can appear.

  7. Not long ago a wonderful friend came to my front door. He had something to give me, He stood a little back. When I wanted to shake his hand and thank him he said no. “i have walking pneumonia and I don’t want you to get sick.”
I told him “Only good was communicable”. Then I said “Please give this contagious thing to me.”
“For if you do you will not have it any more.” He backed off, laughing. Again I said “Please come near and catch goodness and health from me!” He continued to chuckle at this affirmation. He left my door healed.
Next day he called and told me he was better.
