Seek the true substance of Christmas

December 6, 2021 | 14 comments

In Christian Science, Christmas stands for the real, the absolute and eternal, — for the things of Spirit, not of matter.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Miscellany, p 260

Celebrate true Christmas this year by seeking the real and the eternal. You will be blessed beyond anything that is purchased with money, eaten or sensually indulged.

    1. Thank you for alerting us to this lovely article about the eternal, all-powerful, and uplifting Christ.

  1. Thank you Evan for the beautiful thought and for the supporting article Angie. I always think of Love , ( giving or receiving) as the demonstration of the Christ in us all. It mentions in the healing in the article , the warmth of the Love of God being the healing Christ.
We are so blessed to have Christian Science , with its teaching and guidance to help us understand the Soul of Being as opposed to the fleeting sense of materiality. Learn, Love, Express & Be , Gods image Eternally❣️

  2. Thank you all for preparing a Christmas feast. An ever present gift from God, through the life of our dear Master Christ Jesus. And our modern day revelator, Mary Baker Eddy through the reappearing of the Divine Comforter promised by Jesus, Christian Science.
It’s perpetually Christmas when we have that Spirit of giving and sharing abundance as those who follow that “Guiding Star” of Truth, Life and Love. By giving, we actually receive an abundance of things impossible to purchase by money. Gladness!
Happy Holidays! Peace on earth and good will.

  3. It brings to mind Mary Baker Eddy’s illustrated poem “Christ and Christmas.” There is one
picture that depicts a Christmas party in full fling in a large house – with all the works of
a decorated tree and great merriment, – including some people in wheelchairs! They
are so wrapped up in the merriment and the glitter etc. that no-one notices the Christ
knocking at the door – except two small children!! So that is a great reminder that
however much we are enjoying our Christmas festivities and our family gatherings,, we need
to be be childlike and receptive to the Christ presence (rather than Christmas material
presents) at all times, and welcome him into our celebrations – because that is what the celebrations are all about. That picture really makes me think – and I will go back to
    the poem and learn more.

And thank you also, Angie, for the really good article on this subject.

    1. Sorry, I got is slightly wrong. It is Truth knocking at the door where the
festivities are going on. But Christ is the Truth, so it is the same really,
but Truth in this case is depicted as a woman – maybe MBE? who lived
the Truth which Christ Jesus taught us. The picture I mixed
it up with was festivities on “Christmas Eves, o’er babe and crib”.

  4. I tried to amend something from my previous email and it wouldn’t send,
so I hope this will be sent now.

  5. A beautiful reminder that Christmas is more than a babe born in a manger, more than the giving and receiving of gifts, more than family gatherings and food. Christmas is about the love of God. The Love that comes anew to each of us, new and fresh each day. We are the children of Love, completely cared for and provided for, in the family of God.

  6. So I missed a couple of SpiritViews last week but catching up after reading the one on Gratitude I went to the calendar on phone and entered “Gratitude” as my first reminder entry of the day and when it asked me for how many days I wanted this entry to continue, I scrolled down to the last one and checked “Forever”. Thanks Evan

  7. I love this post, Evan. How good it is to celebrate “the real, the absolute and eternal, — the things of Spirit, not of matter”! This reminds me of a wonderful article written by Michelle Nanouche, which was published some years ago in the C.S. Journal: https://journal.christianscience.com/shared/view/1k6aes4z4u8?s=e
The ideas in this article healed our granddaughter when there was a great need.

Thank you so much for all the precious thoughts you share with us so faithfully!
