Set spiritual goals

May 12, 2021 | 19 comments

If you want to be successful in whatever you do, set spiritual goals. Nobody can stop you from reaching your spiritual goals.

Material goals may be wrong-headed and lead down a dead-end. But spiritual goals are always attainable.

I explain in this video how to set spiritual goals and find success.

This vlog was filmed in the Valley of Fire State Park, in Nevada, while hiking there in October 2020.

  1. Thank you for your vlog this morning.

    Spiritual goals replace material ambitions.
This hymn came to mind after viewing your excellent presentation.
    Hymn 224, words by John Ryland, excerpts only. Second verse;

“All good wher-e’er it may be found,
It’s source doth find in Thee: I must have all things and abound,
While God is God to me.”

What are we looking for? What do we want? We want harmony, health and fulfillment, for everyone. And that comes from our heartfelt prayer of affirming God’s Truth, as we learn in our studies of Christian Science. Glory in spiritual attainments and God will provide all we need.
    Gratitude!

  2. Dear Evan, thank you very much for your today`s Vlog. It is so good and helpful to think anew about our spiritual goals which is important for our spiritual progress!

Just finished reading this week`s lesson sermon. The last but one passage says there that which I would spontaniously take as my spiritual goal, on page 495 in Science and Health:

“Let Christian Science instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony.” Yes, that`s it, to let Christian Science support our understanding and inspire us!

Or just express with all my being our Father-Mother God; which is the demand of divine Love on us. That is our goal I do understand!

Thank you for your inspired comment David and for the wonderful hymn 224. I ove that, too.

    1. Yes, and what the verse from Corinthians says, at the end of Evan`s wonderful Vlog

      always to love, love, love

is our main goal, as Love heals and is always victorious – so good – thank you again Evan!

  3. Thank you, Evan for pointing out that those spiritual goals are the quality of life, wholeness of being, always attainable, always higher than any material want.

  4. Evan, thank you so much! That’s exactly right and can “inform” our study and practice of Christian Science daily–even hourly.
Much gratitude for your insights–and for sharing them so freely with us all.

    Karen

  5. Good to hear that nothing can interfere with our spiritual thoughts and uncovering greater spiritual understanding. Not news reports, not mortally minded conversations, not fear of the future, nothing. One of my spiritual goals is to express more humility and trust in God, since I seem to get caught up in a “need” to be right and a desire to prove “I” am right. There’s such peace in that yielding state of humility, trust and expectancy of good.

I listened to the Janet Horton talk discoverybound.org recommended by Annie on May 10 Spiritview. Her healings and stories were deeply inspiring, great examples of how to live CS daily at it’s highest expression. Thanks Annie. Wonderful day to all

  6. Just as I was listening to Evan’s recording of setting spiritual goals, at my window, birds were playing together, flying lightly into and past my window, tapping as they launched off the window pane. Wwhat GREAT spiritual goals, to soar with the birds, free, leading me higher and higher to where love guides me. Today I am ready to soar to new spiritual heights and healing starting with a shift in our downtown Christian Science Reading Room. Can’t wait to get going, for the healing adventure to be revealed.

  7. Dear Evan: It helps me to see you encouraging us to have spiritual goals WHILE you are enjoying the beauty of the national parks you are visiting. God does not require us to sit with our eyes closed in prayer 24/7 ! Life is bountiful good, and as someone wrote once: Man is Soul, enjoying Itself! I get from this that we are a Team, God-and-Us! Life, God, shares all Creation with us… imaging-forth-Itself…with no separation! Reflection is instantaneous, of course. And, yes, I sure do also get that–for now–most of us have mental work to do…deeply acknowledging the truth, One Mind, Good, and sticking with this until we are free-er to…go run up those beautiful mountains!! I am learning patience for this Work, and trusting Life to take me where I need to go, mentally and spiritually. It is a Grand Journey, and one we all are on, consciously or not!

    1. Lovely thoughts! So grateful to hear Evan’s blogs ( this one so very important to hear!) and the comments from readers plus the brilliant articles so warmly chosen and shared! Deeply grateful all around!
Precious friends I love love to listen to each day! Thank you!

    2. Sue, it so true that we all have our mental work to do, even though all is perfection right now. I was listening to a CS lecture the other day by practitioner, Alexandre Fischer (he is amazing, link to lecture prayerthatheals.org/arcadia). He said that even Mrs. Eddy stated that she never had it all figured out and was continuing to learn more and grow even into her later years. I like the idea of it being a grand journey, spiritual work with a capital W, meaning it is holy, sacred work, not a chore, as mortal mind might at times suggest.

  8. So deeply grateful for this, including everyone’s comments. Wonderful articles linked. Thank you, thank you.

  9. From a higher view aka Spiritview ! 🙂 you said in well Evan “spiritual goals ” is where it’s at !♡
