Spiritual truth heals physical injury

February 1, 2013 | 7 comments

I had a patient recently who was so excited about her quick spiritual recovery in light of the medical expectation, that she wrote up her testimony and emailed it to me with pictures to confirm the evidence.
I glanced at the pictures and thought, “Oh wow, that was an impressive physical healing.” I guess in this smartphone camera era we live in, it’s easy to document just about anything with pictures, even physical healings.
Anyway, I’m not going to show you the pictures because the evidence of the injury is tough to take in. The last picture of a well foot looks fabulous, but I’m not sure this person wants a picture of her foot spread all over the internet either. LOL! So you’ll have to trust!
Her story…
This woman twisted her ankle badly walking down the stairs last Christmas Eve.
She wrote, “By morning it was swollen and discolored beyond recognition, and pains went shooting up my leg from both the front and from under my heel, to mid-calf, along with painful muscle spasms…I could not walk without leaning completely on TWO people, one on each side, with much pain at every move and step.”
I remember her emailing me in distress Christmas morning for Christian Science help that day. I happily agreed.
In my prayers, I went to the truth of Being about her as a child of God. I knew that a child of God never missteps, falls, trips, or twists her ankle. A child of God is forever spiritual, incapable of accident, hurt or harm of any kind. I remembered that all the claims of mortal existence, including the temptation to believe one is mortal, vulnerable, and susceptible to injury from walking down a set of stairs, is illusion. And the illusion can be dissolved with spiritual truth.
I rounded out my treatment with a final declaration of truth that she was free, whole, able and capable now, and that she could see herself that way and fully express that truth.
She wrote further,

“Two and a half days later, the swelling had gone down so much that you could tell I had an ankle, but the redness & tenderness remained. I could walk on my own, but was very careful not to twist or turn it. My daughter brought her crutches and then I could get around much better on my own. This happened very quickly, and it remained in this condition for a couple more days, causing me to ask the practitioner [that’s me, Evan] why it was still a little sore to the touch. He reminded me that God’s healings are always complete. He does not do things halfway, and that it may be time for me to realize this truth, and know that it was done, healed, and healed completely. I wrestled with this idea, and soon the foot was fine.”

At this point I remember her being at peace about the situation and happy with her progress, but other family members, who did not practice Christian Science, wanted her to get checked out by a doctor.

She wrote,

“On day 11, I went to see a doctor, and had an x-ray. I walked around the compound in complete freedom from any pain or discomfort. She said it had been a bad sprain with a pulled Achilles’ tendon, and said these types of sprains usually take at least 6-12 weeks to heal. She seemed amazed.

“During this time, my granddaughter and her fiancé who is a medical assistant, my grandson, age thirteen, and my husband all saw what took place. The medical assistant said all along it was a sprain or fracture, and I should have x-rays. All were amazed that I was able to walk on that foot within only two and a half days, with complete healing in 11 days….”

In my world of playing tennis, I frequently see sprains and pulled Achilles’ tendons take players off the courts for several weeks and even months. And some never fully recover. So, when I saw the pictures from the above, and heard the doctor’s diagnosis, I knew this woman had a very special healing. And she is happy to share her story. I thought you might enjoy it.

  1. Thank you, Evan, and your patient for sharing this marvelous victory! I love the idea that one is always complete. Thank you, Evan, for being available on Christmas day to express and affirm the Christ Truth with such happiness and unselfishness. It is great that if one needs visual images to prove a point, that instant technology can record persistent physical progress. Her “faith made her whole” and you never doubted! The evidence of spiritual reality is truly wonderful. Much love and gratitude to you both and of course to God who is our glorious Healer extraordinaire!

  2. Thank you for sharing this clear cut, complete healing and the spiritual reasoning and caring explanation that unfolded it so quickly and beautifully! I love this thought of God expressed so powerfully and persuasively! What a blessing to the CS movement working in the world today!

  3. Awesome! God is awesome! What cannot HE not do? Beautiful healing! How practical Christian Science is! And it does WORK! Blessings to you both, patient and healer, and for sharing this. How utterly inspiring!

  4. I was reading last night in the Church Manual the section on Testimonials, pg 47. It says,

“This testimony, however, shall not include a description of symptoms or of suffering, though the generic name of the disease may be indicated.”

This is such wise counsel whether it be words or photographs. Leaving out the photo seems perfectly in line with this manual provision. We don’t want to be impressed by descriptions that we are trying to heal. And we wouldn’t want to plant the seeds of pain and suffering in the minds of others.

It is great to see more evidence of the immediacy of Christian Science treatment. I especially love how it blesses those around us as seen here in the doctors and family members.

  5. One thing that I enjoyed about this healing is the fact that I know personally of a Christian Scientist who left it by the frivolous arguement that it doesn’t work any more after studying it over 60 years or so. The above healing shows how wrong that was. One can understand fully the letter of Christian Science, but what’s needed is the Spirit and RECEPTIVENESS.
