Stand up for your goodness

Do you ever feel mentally beat up? Like everything you do is wrong, you can’t get it right, or you do get it right but an internal accusatory voice decries your work and berates your efforts and motives with criticism and condemnation?
If so, it’s time to stand up for the good you embody and do!
Anytime you hear, “You’re a loser. You’re never going to get it right. You can’t do anything right. You messed up and will now suffer big time…” you’re hearing the blaming voice I’m talking about.
That negative voice within is not your voice, and is not God’s voice. It’s the carnal mind at large in this world that wants to stop you from accomplishing good works and be recognized for the good you do. It tries to impersonate your internal voice and make you accept its arguments as your own. But be wise. Any argument against your goodness is not your voice. It’s the “liar” (John 8:44) at work that Jesus warned his students about. And it needs to be seen for the liar it is.
From a human point of view, we all have improvements to make in character and disposition. And, hopefully, we humbly admit that truth. But most of us do a lot of good too, and sometimes it is not appreciated. It might even get downgraded, ignored, or ostracized. And often the most devastating form of criticism comes from within, an internal voice that says, “You did a bad job. You got it wrong. You forgot something important. You weren’t liked. You should feel guilty…” and on and on. These feelings, if not checked, can have a tendency to cause us to forget all the good that we did do. And that is a crime! The good accomplished needs to be remembered and recognized. And the voice with no merit needs to be shut down with truth.
You are a super valuable worthy creation of God. You are wholly good, living in God’s image.
We glimpse God’s goodness manifest through us in degrees throughout the human experience, but that’s okay. It’s still here to be seen and acknowledged.
Be sure to recognize your goodness and value its presence. You owe it to yourself.

  1. Yes, Evan, that happened to me. I did have difficulty with my son. He slaps me down at times to the point that I just yelled. Well! It does no good to yell. Better to leave and realize my uniqueness and his uniqueness made in God’s image and likeness and leave the yelling to the false mentality, MORTAL MIND!

  2. Thank you, Evan for this excellent article. It reminded me of a CS lecture given a long time ago in which the lecturer spoke about the need to love our true individuality. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health on p. 491 “Man’s true individuality is never wrong. It is the likeness of man’s Maker…Personality is not the individuality of man.”
The lecturer said that because mankind has misunderstood Jesus’ command to love our neighbor as ourselves, they have tried to love their neighbor without loving first themselves. She said you wouldn’t try to share money that you didn’t have with someone, yet we’ve tried to do just that with love and reminded the listeners to love their true individuality, as you have indicated today.

  3. So good to read it and to understand it more and more.
We (and everybody) are really loved, valued and valuable.
Thnks so much for your wonderful blogs, your ideas (and photos!) you are sharing with us.
    Have a good day
