Stopping the coronavirus

January 31, 2020 | 25 comments

Millions of people are feeling helpless and fearful as reports of the spread of the coronavirus come out of China and other affected places in the world. But this does not need to be the case.

Mankind is never helpless in the face of disease. There is something we can do to turn the tide on the contagion and restore health and harmony for all those affected.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “At a time of contagious disease, Christian Scientists endeavor to rise in consciousness to the true sense of the omnipotence of Life, Truth, and Love, and this great fact in Christian Science realized will stop a contagion” (Miscellany, p. 116).

We have no time to waste! Each of us can be realizing the omnipotence of Life, Truth and Love embracing, including and protecting our brothers and sisters in China and anywhere else in the world that needs to feel Love’s presence.

Disease is not a mystery. It is an error of belief, a suggestion that an evil power exists apart from God that can cause havoc in God’s creation and rob people of their health. This error is reversed with an understanding of Truth that validates God as the only power over man and the sustainer of eternal health that is never lost or threatened by error of any kind.

Because we live in a world of thought, the scientific spiritual thinking of a person on one side of the globe can bless the experience of a person on the other side of the globe.

Let’s stop the spread of fear and contribute to the spread of Truth and Love’s power and presence felt and known by all mankind. Health and peace will be restored once again.

  1. Thank you so very much, dear Evan for this comforting and loving advice for our mutual prayer for all our brothers and sisters all overy the World. Just yesterday you said to us, that all true being is in Spirit without any knowledge of something apart from God, all good, the All in All!
With joy will pray for the World together with you all.

  2. Thank you Evan,. Yes we can all lift our thought to see the spiritual reality of Life in God.
I’ve been working with the piece on Contagion written by Mary Baker Eddy in Miscellaneous Writings Page 228. She writes “A calm, Christian state of mind is a better preventative of contagion than a drug, or any other possible sanative method; and the “perfect Love” that “casteth out fear” is a sure defence.”

  3. The second definition of contagion in the dictionary is “the spreading of harmful ideas or practice.” Who knew the dictionary would define the Truth of contagion, which is that it is only an idea, a mistaken one, but an idea with no real power supporting it, There is only one Power, and that is God, Good. When there is no fear of disease, then Wholeness is always revealed.

    1. Thank you F for the helpful article giving us lots of healing ideas to help stop any contagion and deny and wipe out any disease. And thank you Evan for your very needed blog. We are with you in prayer. (=

  4. Fear not, rely on God, all will be well. Spiritual understanding will enlighten the moment to realize that error has no substance upon which to stand.

  5. Abiding thanks, Evan, for your “right on” work, prayer, watch” for our world. MBE states, “Truth handles the most malignant contagion with perfect assurance” (S&H 176:31). Our prayers acknowledging this spiritual fact and “guarding the door” of thought (S&H 392) promise healing for our world. Thanks all!

  6. Thank you, Evan! I especially appreciate your prayer and admonishing us all to pray beyond ourselves, our neighborhoods and countries, spreading Truth everywhere.
With loving gratitude for your Holy sharing

  7. Thank you for this powerful, healing view. The seeming antagonism and fear behind the contagion of political and social polarization can be destroyed by this truth, as well as the contagious thoughts of aging. What a lot of good we can do for the world through this prayer.

  8. When I taught preschool, sometimes a well-meaning parent or co-teacher would come to my classroom door reporting/warning that some contagious something-or-other was spreading through a classroom(s).. This statement in Science & Health p.103:29-31 came clearly to me: “In reality there is no ‘’mortal’ mind, and consequently no transference of mortal thought and will-power.” Throughout my years there my class had a noticeably low rate of absences, and most of those were just due to families taking days off to go to the beach!

  9. Thank you for for these inspiring ideas and the wonderful article that was shared! I loved where it states,” all we can be exposed to is Love! “ And that “ perfect Love casteth out fear.”

  10. The subtle thought of the virus being contained in China should be addressed. One might be tempted to take comfort in the suggestion that the virus is half way around the world and therefore can’t effect them, but in proper thinking, the truth should be that the virus does not exist anywhere because it’s not from God who made all that exists and made it good, in His image and likeness. If God is All-in-all, it leaves no room for anything else but His goodness.

  11. I’m passing along all these prayers to the authority in China who”s dealing with some 200 Pizzeria’s. Thank you for the solution which is dissolving fear.
It will continue on the Asian Continent now…..

  12. Thank you, all.

Absolute spiritual facts are all the facts there are.

We don’t spread truth, hold truth, stop error with truth.

    Truth, Life, Love are All, always have been All;
    always will be All.

    There IS nothing else.

  13. This is so important — to rise to the occasion as Christian Scientists and refute an error which tries to assert itself worldwide. This is our duty, to replace error with Truth, and to see all mankind as wrapped in God’s loving care.

  14. Thanks to all for helpful comments. I’ve been working with hymn 145: In atmosphere of Love divine, we live and move and breathe. Love to all.

  15. Unity of Good, p. 20 on Rectifications per evil:

    First: God never made evil.
    Second: He knows it not.
Third: We therefore need not fear it.
