Supply that never ends

Some people wonder how God, infinite Spirit, can pay the bills. “What does God know about my rent due?” one may ask. Christian Science has an answer that stays true to the incorporeal nature of God, explains the relationship of the divine to the human, and shows how the resources of divine Love translate into human needs met.

The teachings of Science explain that we live in a universe of divine Mind where God’s things are God’s thoughts. When faced with lack, the opportunity is to seek out a thought of God that dissolves the picture of want and replaces it with a provision appropriate for the occasion. Jesus Christ demonstrated this rule repeatedly. When faced with privation, he would go to God in prayer, listen for inspiration and guidance, and then bring the blessing he found within to the person or situation around him. He helped Peter find money to pay taxes, loaves and fishes for the masses, strength for the weak, feet for the lame, vision for the blind. First there was prayer and listening for inspiration, then an outward effect. “Science says, All is Mind and Mind’s idea,” (SH 492:19) Mary Baker Eddy wrote in explaining the make-up of the universe. God’s thoughts are the spiritual things that meet human needs.

Divine Mind never runs out

of pertinent, relevant,

appropriate

thoughts that

solve

any problem ever faced

For instance, from a surface observation, the needs of a bakery may appear to be met by customers walking in the door and buying baked goods. But in truth, the supply of that bakery is not coming from the pockets of hungry customers.  It is the knowledge, skill, and talent of the bakers running the business that create product, construct an attractive retail establishment, and maintain a market patronized by loyal clientele. Those ideas and creative inspirations come from God, and their good effect on business activity illustrates the coincidence of the divine with the human. What workers gain in understanding from listening to the divine Mind and from following God’s wise counsel and guidance, translates into intelligent human action that satisfies customers, creates demand for worthy services and products, and pays the bills.
Once it is understood that God’s resources are God’s ideas, fear of lack disappears, for divine Mind is an unending source of these benefits. Divine Mind never runs out of pertinent, relevant, appropriate thoughts that solve any problem ever faced. It’s like having ten billion dollars in the bank and incurring modest expenses. You might have $100 in your wallet that you spend at the grocery store. But when the $100 is spent, you have no fear of not having enough because you have ten billion dollars in your bank account to draw upon before your next trip to the market.
It’s the same with drawing upon God’s infinite resources. The resources of divine Love may look like a $100 bill one day, gas in the tank, or food to eat, but they are not. The resources are always the inspiration, wisdom and love coming from God that causes you and people around you to make intelligent decisions that lead to action that demonstrates practical supply. Primal supply comes from God and is received in consciousness. It is not a material thing or commodity that can be depleted. It is a spiritual presence to be valued and utilized.
The resources of divine Love
are inexhaustible, unending,
infinite. They never run out.
Years ago, when working on my family’s farm and orchard, our fruit trees were hit by a devastating frost. Struggling with how to pay the bills, one answer God gave us came in the form of divine assurance that said in effect, “I am supplying you what you need every day. Be grateful for what you have, make the most of it, and I will take care of tomorrow. Trust me.” This was a divine idea, or asset, sent our way. We obeyed it, and our financial needs were met in the form of a profitable crop we did not expect. Our bills were paid.
The human mind begins to doubt God’s provision when it measures supply in a material form. “I need more money!” the ignorant mortal ego argues and insists. Yes, more money may be needed to satisfy the merchants, but the primary need is never monetary. Money comes and goes. It is spent. It does not supply needs in and of itself. The demand is always spiritual, for a change in view that breaks thought out of a mesmerized stupor declaring lack as the reality to an understanding of how God is meeting the need spiritually. Perhaps wiser action is warranted, more humility to hear God’s direction, gratitude, courage to take bold new steps out of limiting social or political conditions, or refusal to bow down to imprisoning economic verdicts not of one’s making. When one rises to the moral and spiritual imperative of the moment, new opportunities and possibilities for progress appear, impoverishing mental standpoints are dropped, and God’s ever-present supply is more readily discerned.
The resources of divine Love are inexhaustible, unending, infinite. They never run out. When one reaches mentally into the deep pockets of divine Love, they will not withdraw empty handed. God has an answer to every question, a solution to every problem, a resolution to every trouble.Divine Mind has all issues regarding supply figured out ahead of time. As Jesus emphasized, “Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him” (Matt. 6:8).  And true to the nature of beneficent and magnanimous Love, one can trust that the pertinent supply is already in place before a prayer to find it is uttered.

So, don’t hesitate to draw upon the “ten billion dollars” you have in the bank with God! Your “ten billion dollars” is metaphorical for the unlimited inspiration, ideas, insight, creativity, plans that work, strength, understanding and wisdom coming from God that demonstrate abundance and triumph over lack. God’s income for you is never out of reach. It’s present in divine Mind, your Mind as a child of God, and available to use freely and without condition. It’s a supply that never ends.

  1. Wonderful thoughts, as always. And SO true. Funny that even though we do seem to need the money, the needed “supply” always comes when we are listening to God’s direction. I have certainly proved this. Some years ago I was laid off from a really lucrative senior management position with a large Engineering and Construction firm. I was crushed, and worried. But as I prayed for guidance, I saw that I still HAD a job, a job reflecting God’s qualities, my always and real job. I got up every morning, put on my suit and tie to go to work and worked at “reflecting”!!! Due to my “age” I wasn’t an attractive candidate apparently, but God gave me ideas on ways I could survive. I didn’t get a good paying job for nearly 3 years but never went without, we made our of our monthly bill payments on time, like the Bible story where the cruse of oil never ran out (I Kings 17:15). What proof of the applicability of your article. Eventually I secured another good position and with still perfect credit, much thanks to the Father, we moved on!! Thanks Evan.

  2. No matter how strong Mortal Mind tries, it fails, Especially when one understands it’s nothingness. I have been laid up since 1997 due to the death of my wife. But that didn’t stop me from going on with my life. joy, happiness never dies, since it’s a product of God. Being useful and productive never dies. It’s always going on. Now, from my bed, I am writing C/S comments to Spirit View, The Daily Lifts, Time 4Thinkers and the Community Discussion Web Sites. Oh, yes, I get paid. Not money, but with the satisfaction of knowing that my comments are received around the world, and some one is being helped.
