The heavenly view

I was admiring a photo of an astronaut looking out a little window in his shuttle perched far off in space, looking down on the blue and beautiful globe called earth. There were wispy expanses of clouds gracing the outline of earth, the continents of Africa and Europe could be seen between the wide seas. Our planet was a picture of pure calm, peace and beauty. It was a sight to behold and to remember.
As I soaked in the wonder and awe of the view from the astronaut’s vantage point, my thinking suddenly descended into the events taking place on those land masses thousands of miles below.

Unseen to the eye, there were wars, conflicts, fires, pestilence, famine, terrorists attacks and other acts of evil taking place daily. Yet, none of it touched the astronaut high above in space. He couldn’t even see it. He was so far from it, so high above it, so remote from it, that it was as nothing to him. No bomb could reach him, no pandemic could threaten him, no flood could overwhelm him, and no hurricane could upset his capsule. He was in a whole different world in many respects that isolated and separated him from what was happening far below from where he sat.
There are limits to every analogy, but the sanctuary of safety this astronaut occupied from high above, I saw as a metaphor for the protection and safety we find in spiritual consciousness.
Spiritual consciousness lifts us out of the reach of mortal mind’s evils.  When we stay “high above,” in a consciousness of infinite Love, we are out of the reach of hatred, anger, resentment and ill-will from others. When we stay “high above” in a consciousness of Truth, we are not within the reach of error and false belief that would mislead us, deceive us, use and abuse us. When we are “high above” in a consciousness of Life, we are not susceptible to lies of limitation that hamper life, drain and stress it out and leave one feeling weak and helpless.
So, stay “high above” today! Guard against falling into a state of mental error, entertaining powers and influences contrary to God’s reality.  There is only one God, one reality, and that reality is omnipresent Good! Stay in that high place and enjoy the benefits.
