The microscope of Spirit

“Matter disappears under the microscope of Spirit.”

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 264

Scientists look through microscopes to examine an object at an enlarged and close up point of view. According to Mrs. Eddy, when you examine matter through the microscope of Spirit, matter disappears. There is only the substance of Spirit to see.

Apply this rule to unwanted material growths and physical conditions. Examine them under the microscope of Spirit and watch them disappear. There is only perfect Spirit-substance to see and find.

  1. This is so good to know, that “Matter disappears under the microscope of Spirit.” This truth is super-charged to discharge the suggestion of the presence of matter. After all, as it says in the Scientific Statement of Being, “All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all.” These truths are what we need to refute the suggestions coming to us from the media, i.e. tv ads and news.
We are bathed in the microbes of Mind- and gratitude!

  2. Interesting how there is more space in matter than matter and what natural science would report all is held together by forces. In my mind this force has only one source Spiritual Truth, Life as Love, Principle presented through Mind as Soul.

  3. Wonderful, Evan!! That’s a really great idea.

The error of matter disappears when we examine it, like the error 2 + 3 = 4 is corrected when we check our work.

An oar in the water looks broken when viewed from above. When we examine the oar, we find it’s whole. If God is all and God is good, why does the world seem broken?

It’s a good question, but one that’s impossible to answer on its own level. It’s like asking for an account of a counting error. It’s like saying, “Bring me the broken oar!”

The would-be mortal body is the idea of limitation. It’s a distorted perception which sees the eternal as limited and the immortal as vulnerable.

When an unwanted condition seems to appear, we don’t have to engage it to “remove” it.

This “condition” is like a magician’s handkerchief, which he waves to distract our attention. When our attention is on the condition, we don’t see the absurdity of what it suggests.

    Someone might ask:
As long as we understand God is All, why should it matter if there’s a mosquito bite on this body, or a sprained ankle on that one, or a plumbing problem in the house down the street?

It’s a good question. But we ask this question because we think error is contained in a human mind, which would be fine if it didn’t contain the error. But error is the very idea that a limited mind exists.

The “finite world” is also the “mortal body,” which is not different from the false idea of mortal mind. The mosquito bite IS the false idea of error, if you see what I mean. It sits right where infinite Love actually is.

    1. Thank you very much, Evan!

And thank you, Jay, for your analogies and comments which I found unwrapped Evan’s statement very nicely for me and inspired me to think more deeply today. It’s just what I needed at this time. My gratitude for Christian Science is boundless.

  4. What a power lens to search and view truth thru, the microscope of Spirit! Thanks for the reminder.

  5. Thanks to al for your thoughtful comments on the unreality of matter. God is actually ALL!

  6. Wonderful! Might I add the sentence in Science and Health which precedes this line….”Spirit and its formations are the only realities of being.” Then….. “Matter disappears under the microscope of Spirit.” p.264 Yes, there is only the substance of Spirit. Thanks so much, Evan! I am, more and more, considering the “formations” in thought I am entertaining…..must be ONLY Spirit’s formations.

  7. Am so grateful for your clear and healing SpiritView every day, Evan!
You are awakening us to the spiritual truth
every morning anew, so good and inspiring! It helps me a lot, to get my thinking straight to the divine Truth.
Am also thankful to you all for your so
    inspired and helpful comments.

  8. I love this post and comments! Thank you, Evan and all posters!! Last week my wrists and fingers were yelling at me about how they ached. I couldn’t write or do much with my hands. So I did just as Mrs. Eddy instructed me and looked st the whole ruse through spiritual sense and logic! The thought of pain or inability never entered my thought again until I read this post and acknowledged God’s awesome and immediate response to our (collective) oneness with Him. “Rejoice for thou .ART free!”

  9. Thanks, Evan, and all contributors! I love this post! I think about the allness of Spirit and truly want to see things through the microscope of Spirit. It’s great—I appreciate everything.

  10. Love this so much! Matter disappears! Thank you for this scientific Truth and I loved Jay’s examples of how matter’s illusions are so deceiving like the bent paddle. There really IS no bent paddle and never was! Man is whole and perfect now. The illusion fades when we look away from the body into Truth and Love. Mentally, Holding our gaze on the Truth, we bring these into our experience! Why stare at nothingness?

  11. God knows our every need and Evan reflects what God directs him to write-to help all of us. How that sentence “Matter is under the microscope of Spirit” (God) helped me today. An eye exam today proved that to be true. Always a concern with me, matter eventually evaporated/disappeared under God’s all-seeing eye. The optham. was astonished. My gratitude tonight knows NO limits. Thank you, dear Evan. Thank you dear Father/Mother/God.
