The path to success

When I entered an Applebees restaurant last week, the below quote was written on the readerboard. I had to stop and ponder it.

The elevator to success is out of order.

You’ll have to use the stairs…
one step at a time.
~ Joe Girard

Girard is one of the most famous salesman of recent decades in the US. He has been an inspiration to millions of workers striving to master the art of the sale.
At first glance, I thought, “There is an elevator to success. Instantaneous realization of Truth! That will get you to the best possible place in the shortest period of time.”
But in further contemplation, I knew what Girard was getting at. There are no shortcuts to long term success. It takes hard work, effort, persistence, patience, and their kin to reach an admirable goal.
The practice of Christian Science is no different. In this age of pursuing instant self-gratification, people are often unwilling to put in the commitment and effort needed to be successful with spiritual healing in the long run.
Sure, we have our moments of instantaneous realization, but in the practical day to day activity, we can’t go hot and cold in our prayerful efforts. We need consistency, constancy, persistence, a never-give-up attitude and solid commitment to living spiritual ideals to increase our demonstrations. There are no short-cuts. There “is no elevator,” as Girard said. Progress is step by step up the ladder of spiritual understanding. And one step at a time gets us to the top. It’s for certain!

  1. wasnt there a profit in the bible somewhere that was trying to teach some royal person somewhere about spirituality. This royal/noblity type asked “isnt there a quicker way to learn this” and i think the profit said “there is no royal way”. Also jesus said that their is only one way to enter the kingdom of heaven, and that was by him(the christ idea, not his personal self he menat)….cannot go around, under, over the well…but need to go down the strait and narrow..etc…
