Thrive at What You do Best

Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.

  1. Thanks Evan! I’ve always thought that everybody is a genius at something but thought I came up with this all on my own. Now I find Einstein beat me to this idea. Oh well, it’s nice to know Albert and I had at least one common idea between us! 🙂

I came across a video of Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat, Pray, Love, giving a talk about how we need to find something we love more than we love ourselves…and do that, even if we encounter obstacles along the way in continuing to do that. I love that idea. I think whatever we love more than we love ourselves is probably what we’re a genius at.

Anyway, here’s a link to the video for anyone interested in watching it. Note: I’ve never read Eat, Pray, Love nor did I see the movie so I’m not endorsing that book/movie in any way. Just thought I’d mention that in case the subject matter of that book/movie is not good.

  2. The poor fish!

Aren’t we sometimes tempted to judge others by what WE think
they SHOULD be doing, and being GOOD at doing–in church and out?

Christ Jesus strongly emphasized the need to leave others to God, to
cease any and all judgement of them! “…that YE be not judged.”

Ouch. Of course, his advice was far superior to Einstein’s, or anyone else’s.
But I sure do appreciate Einstein for his acknowledgement of God…right
in the midst of his close study of matter (ok, as “energy,” but this still keeps it
    in the realm of matter).

I love Einstein’s words on spirituality:

“I want to know God’s thoughts; the rest are details.” And,
“Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.”

    Happy climbing, Climbers!

    :<))

(Oh, and of course, thank you, dear Evan.)

  3. I’m feeling speechless as I don’t know how to respond. I try to do the things that I love,
but I’m not sure that I hit the mark. I’m know longer trying to achieve some goal so I live very simply and try to not stagnate.

  4. This is just perfect timing. I have been struggling more so lately about having “just the right job” for me. Last night I had a photo shoot I had been looking forward to, because I love sharing my creativity thru a camera, I get excited about these appointments. I worked late into the night editing and creating. I woke early with that photo shoot still on my mind, anxious to finish the editing and selection process so as to assemble a photo package for purchase. I knew the daughter and her parents were just going to be so happy to have her Senior portraits in their hands. Befire getting out of bed, at that moment, it came to me, this is my job…to create, to express, to love, and to love who I am and what I can do for others. Evan, you shared here with me that God is always taking care of us. Thank you for sharing. I needed this today.
