We experience consciousness

It’s obvious when you think about it, but unfortunately, many people don’t think about it.  The truth is that we experience consciousness.

Blame for experience is often put on material factors.  People blame the weather, germs, other people, fate, organs in the body, age, genetics, and more for their ups and downs during any given day.

No doubt, if the weather turns bad, we might start to feel bad.  If threatened by contagion, we might fret over our prospects for health.  But the truth is, the experience we are having is not a specific result of the weather or germs.  It’s an effect of what we believe to be true about them.  Humans experience the effect of their beliefs.

Experience is an effect of consciousness.

To prevent suffering and to more quickly demonstrate over threats to health when they occur, it pays to have thought in a good place, aligned with Truth and Love, so that thought does not drop into a state of despair and woe that leads to unnecessary suffering.

We can conquer threats to health and harmony with spiritual mindedness.

Mary Baker Eddy tells us one way to do this in her admonition, “Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 261).

Take preventative action against potential suffering.  Hold thought “to the enduring, the good, and the true,” with God, and stay well.

If your consciousness stays in a good place, your experience will stay in a good place.

We experience consciousness.

  1. Thank you Evan! Spiritual consciousness is the kingdom of heaven. I’ve often thought of that quote of MBE holding thought to the good and the true lately, and to let go of the history of the other, an ongoing work.

  2. When involved in management training, it was generally acknowledged that what you think, governs your experience. This included what you think about others, and how that was reflected back! However, as made clear by Evan there is only one spiritual consciousness that matters. What God thinks is All and that is what is truly governing our lives. Jesus said “I and my Father are One” and prayed that we may also experience this oneness. He demonstrated and experienced Christ. In Truth and Spirit, so do we.

  3. Great reminded, Evan. Thanks. It reminds me so much of MBE’s admonition – which says that our spiritual consciousness also benefits “all whom (our) thoughts rest upon.”:

Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them. It is plain that nothing can be added to the mind already full. There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness. Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited.
(The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 210:2)

  4. Thank you, Evan, this reminds me of what Jesus said. “What I say unto you I say unto all” “Watch “!
