Wear your armor

Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

~ Ephesians 6:11, NLT

People wanting to stay warm during a cold winter wear coats to protect themselves from bitter weather.  Firemen wear fire-resistant clothes to protect them from the heat of fires they fight.  Soldiers wear bullet-proof vests to protect themselves from enemy fire.  Alert metaphysicians wanting to stay strong and well, wear spiritual armor to protect their thinking from the “strategies of the devil.”

The strategies of the devil are any phase or inclination of mortal thought that would tempt one into believing evil has power or influence.  These influences can come in subtle ways, like “You were exposed to a neighbor with a cold today.  You’re going to get a cold,” to aggressive forms such as a person yelling to your face that you’re a bad person and deserve to suffer.  Whatever form evil takes, it can be faced fearlessly and neutralized with a clear understanding of God’s omnipotence and omnipresence.

We can put on our armor of spiritual protection ahead of time, so that any attacks of evil do not hurt us.  Like targeted darts harmlessly bouncing off metal armor, targeted evil suggestions bounce off our mental armor.  They do not touch us inside that armor!

To know God’s reign and rule over all, is to put on your armor.  It’s to know no other reality than God.  It’s to know that good reigns over evil, health over disease, and love over hate.  It’s to see through the lies of evil, discredit them, and to bow to God, good alone.  It is to know that God is all, and evil is nowhere to be found in God’s allness.  It is to be spiritually minded.

Be sure to wear your spiritual armor today!

  1. I’m very grateful for all the time and effort Evan puts in to provide the SpiritView family with our daily inspiration, healing messages and thought-provoking sentiments. Having worked in IT I know there is a cost involved in maintaining a web site and would like to make a donation – please can you point me in the right direction to do this.

  2. Dear SpiritView family
I’d like to thank you all for your contributions to SpiritView which are so helpful. Your comments, like Evan’s blogs, are often thought provoking and your spared experiences inspirational.
I am most grateful to you all.
Warmest wishes for a lovely peaceful Christmas and a blessed New Year.
    With love Rubi

  3. This is my spiritual armour every morning, and working with all The Ways that are Vain, and applying it all to myself.

“Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them. It is plain that nothing can be added to the mind already full. There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness. Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited.

The self-seeking pride of the evil thinker injures him when he would harm others. Goodness involuntarily resists evil. The evil thinker is the proud talker and doer. The right thinker abides under the shadow of the Almighty. His thoughts can only reflect peace, good will towards men, health, and holiness.”
(The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 210:2–17)

  4. Love this Evan. A good article which relates to this is “Put on the whole armour of God” by David C Kennedy of November 13 2006 – perhaps some kind person could provide the link. Hymn 292 also relates to his article. The breastplate protects the heart. The shield of true faith covers us completely and is our defence from doubt, negativity and fear. The helmet of salvation guards and protects our thinking from the lies hurled at us by personal sense. The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God which pierces every lie.
I’m so grateful for all the resources we have to keep us on the straight path and help our understanding. Thank you so much Evan and all SV friends for wonderful daily contributions. Blessings to all. Linda. X

  5. Thank you Evan!
I love the image you chose for this post. An impervious shield indeed.

Mrs Eddy wrote, “Clad in the panoply (cloak) of Love, human hatred cannot reach you”

As you said, we may hear “their” yelling.

Rants and lies, all of it! Yet, here we all are today, the image of divine Love, the apple of God’s eye.

And what of those who rant and rave? They are also loved, beyond their understanding in this moment, yet, still loved.

Hy 253, a poem by Mrs Eddy ends,

“My prayer, some daily good to do
    To Thine, for Thee;
An offering pure of Love, whereto
    God leadeth me.”

  6. Maggie, I hope this answers your question. To donate, click on the subheading “about” at the top of the page. Scroll down to the donate section and click on “Contribute.” Evan, thank you for all of the spiritual growth you have provided us! Sending love to all!

  7. I have also made donations for SV via Zelle. If you prefer not to use PayPal or a credit/debit card you can make a donation via Zelle using Evan‘s email address.

    1. It’s personal preference, but I have a family member in IT Security and not a fan of Zelle, PayPal or using a debit card. With a credit card you can at least dispute an erroneous charge. For even further security, one can send a cashier’s check or money order (no bank routing info is included on either). And not a good idea to send cash through the mail. 🙂

  8. This is such a wonderful and protective message and sweet, sweet
graphic. Thank you. It gives such a feeling of comfort, peacefulness
and caring, like a Father (Mother) would give towards his children.
Our Father/Mother God shields us from anything mortal thinking
would try to harm us with.
From the hymn 253, (Thank you, Shelagh), “Father, where Thine own
children are, I love to be”.

  9. It’s funny how I get different “angel messages” sometimes when I read this blog. Today after reading Evan’s post, I thought about how when I was a child and I would sometimes watch a TV variety show that had a “magician”. Sometimes the magician would saw a lady in half. Sometimes the magician would make a person disappear. Sometimes they would pull a coin from someone’s ear. More recently I’ve noticed these acts being billed as “illusionists.” It’s almost like the people that do this type of entertainment decided they wanted to be more “honest” about what they are doing.

If I were to believe this “magic” is “real”, it would be easy to harbor resentment towards the magician for sawing the lady in half or live in fear that one day someone might make me disappear or go through life worried that a coin could somehow get stuck in my ear and that I’d have to hire a magician to remove it for me. But I don’t experience any of those bad feelings (resentment, fear, worry) because I know it’s just “illusion”. The 1828 Webster’s dictionary has these definitions of illusion:

Deceptive appearance; false show, by which a person is or may be deceived

The Bible verse Evan quoted today could leave one with the impression that there is a “devil” that is a real entity that causes evil. And maybe the person that wrote the book of Ephesians believed that. But Mrs. Eddy (through her writings) graciously teaches us that, as Evan wrote, “…evil is nowhere to be found in God’s allness.”

I don’t always do a good job of realizing God’s allness that enables me to recognize the evil (discord) I’m tempted to believe is only an illusion. But that’s all it is. So today, as a result of reading this healing blog, I’m going to be more alert and not believe discord is real and instead think “Ha! You don’t fool me. God is All and therefore everything that is real has to manifest God and reflect God’s all-harmonious power and love!” As I’m consistent in doing that, I know that I will experience God’s love (Christ) more and be able to share God’s love better with others.

  10. Thank you everyone for your insightful comments, stimulating conversation, and generous support.

It’s a joy to be part of this online family. The love and care you all share with each other is palpable, and healing!

  11. To all, and especially Evan, I’d like to express my gratitude or the articles, the replies and your effort and willingness to share. As a Christian science nurse, I have used these articles and thoughts to share with patients as I travel around this continent. Most helpful to talk about the evil suggestions that seem to appear right in my face. Look up and away spiritually. The case is going before me is my armor. Yes thank you Evan as I have worked with patients in their homes that you are their practitioner. They are blessed!

A very merry and hallowed Christmas time. With a new beginning in the new year and every day.

    With love and gratitude, Sherry

  12. I love today’s blog and commentary. It is all so helpful, inspiring, and reassuring. As a child my mom would often ask me when I would head off to school, “Did you put your armor on this morning?” I knew exactly what she meant. Had I acknowledged God as my Father-Mother, always with me to help and heal? Had I read at least a section or two of the lesson ? Had I thought about my spiritual identity as God’s beloved child? Was I spiritually prepared for my day, ready to bear witness to God’s goodness? It was a loving reminder that still echoes in my thought. In classrooms today, young children are prompted to focus when the teacher asks, “Ready? Set?” Their shouted response is, “You bet!” We can all enthusiastically affirm, “You bet!” as we declare our daily readiness to face down whatever would argue God’s absence. Thank you, Evan and Spiritview friends, for the invaluable support you provide in enabling us to better armor ourselves each day. Christmas blessings to you all.

  13. Thank you so much, , Evan, for all your wonderful spiritual messages you have shared with us through the year – they have been really helpful to keep us thinking

    blessings in the coming year.

And similarly I wish all this lovely Spirit\view family
a wonderful and Joyful Christmas, however it is
spent. May God provide everyone with spiritual
blessings for Christmas and the New Year.

    With love to all, Maggie.
