Hi Evan, I enjoyed reading the information about your church and its activities. It sounds like your new church was designed with the reading room included at inception. Without divulging any confidential information, could you share why your church decided to not have a separate reading room location? This is something that I have been praying about for a long time. It seems that usually, this happens only when a church can’t financially afford to pay for a separate reading room, and I doubt if that is true in your church. I am a member of First Church in South Bend, IN. Any insight you could share as to how this decision was made would be much appreciated. Laurel
My church is in Pasco, WA, so I’m not sure you’re referring to the church I’m a member of. Perhaps you were reading information about a branch I’m doing a lecture for.
At any rate, some churches have Reading Rooms in their edifice, and as you say, often for cost-savings. I think the best place for a Reading Room, aside from other considerations, is out in the public square where neighbors can easily access it and find it. Reading Rooms are meant to be like public bookstores, to get Christian Science readily into the public’s hands so they can learn about it!
