What do you think you are?

I am matter, or I am Spirit? Which has the preponderance of attention in your mental household each day?

After an exerting 3 hours of tennis, I went back to the house to get cleaned up, and felt a bit of stiffness in the body. Catching myself entertaining the physical complaint, I realized it was a symptom of believing I was a physical mortal subject to physical pain. The three words, “I am matter,” I distinctly heard articulated in my thought.

“I am matter!” “No,” I retorted back. “I am Spirit expressed. Spirit is my reality, not matter,” I argued to that voice in the background until it shut down and my body loosened up. The turn-around was quick.

But afterward, I kept pondering the lesson learned.

The temptation to think, “I am matter,” comes way too easily. It is taught by our schools, heralded in the media, and preached by the doctors. It’s everywhere in the public consciousness. If we blindly cruise along with public consciousness, not questioning its validity, we too, could easily fall into the trap of thinking subconsciously, “I am matter,” and then suffer the consequences.

Be alert! God’s child is not matter, but Spirit expressed. We are divinely designed to reflect God’s consciousness of “I am Spirit!” This truth should be dominating our perspective for the best healing effect.

Spirit is pain free. Spirit is harmony. Spirit is peace. Spirit is not stiff, achy or sick. Spirit is healthy and well.

God’s offspring is spiritual, not material.

The Great I AM THAT I AM, is Spirit. “I AM SPIRIT,” is a God consciousness, and it’s yours to reflect. Enjoy the benefit.

  1. Thanks Evan. Its so important to know and affirm our true selfhood made in the image and likeness of God – spiritual and pure, perfect and complete. I have had many healings based on this understanding of my true identity as spiritual, untouched by any disease, or pain or any harm or deformity whatsoever. Mary Baker Eddy says in her Text Book Science and Health .”The relations of God and man, divine Principle and idea, are indestructible in Science; and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history.” If we believe and understand the Truth with a childlike confidence, then it surely works and there is no turning back. Just as Evan, you affirmed your true spiritual identity and you saw it work and got your healing.

  2. Thank you, Evan, for your steadfast love of Truth, and for sharing it!
(Hey! This is how reflection works, huh!)

  3. Thanks, Evan! Yes, a good reminder…….When I run each morning I have to remind myself that it’s not my legs or muscles that are holding me up and powering me forward, but it’s God, Spirit, Love, Mind that holds me up and empowers every movement. “Mind is the source of all movement…….” MBE. So grateful to know we are all spiritual, not material! Love to All!

  4. I’m hoping these inspiring messages will keep me alert. It is so easy to give in and go along with mortal mind. I really need to take command like you showed us! Thanks so much!

  5. The scientific statement of being says it all.
This week’s lesson on Mind is a wonderful lesson.
I am so grateful for the truth that makes free!

  6. What a wonderful treatment for today. After several hours of using a comercial floor buffer matter wants to claim that body must suffer and presents all the reasons why. Spirit’s design is the only reality. Thank you and other thoughts expressed.

  7. Thanks so much, Evan, for another enlightening message. I will be more alert to claim INSTANTLY that I am not material, but spiritual when the false claim of fatigue or effects of physical exertion want to present themselves. And, I appreciate all of the previous comments. Thanks to all!

  8. It is a wonderfull way to say that we always are the children of God, our Father-Mother-God. Thanks Evans.

  9. Mind tells me that I am spiritual, not material, not subject to the matier laws of health, which is so important to keep in thought as I was incarcerated in Hospital where physicality is preached minute by minute. I am home now still training my thought to be opened to spiritual thoughts which would finally bring forth healing.

  10. Love the thought that we are “divinely designed to reflect God.” Spirit is not stiff, achy nor am I as a reflection of God’s all-active, harmonious consciousness. What a lift! Thank you, dear Evan.

  11. Thanks for this example of “Alertness to Duty”! We don’t have to become an *invalid* when we recognize suggestions of discord as *invalid* from the start and refute them with the truth.

  12. That’s a splendid and helpful message, Evan.
To know I am Spirit expressed just helps me sing and soar in thought
