  1. I love this poem – I used to direct a choir at Christmas time who would sing it.
    I think the whole poem in good, and so I thought I would post it for those who would
    like to read it.

    Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
    The flying cloud, the frosty light:
    The year is dying in the night;
    Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

    Ring out the old, ring in the new,
    Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
    The year is going, let him go;
    Ring out the false, ring in the true.

    Ring out the grief that saps the mind
    For those that here we see no more;
    Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
    Ring in redress to all mankind.

    Ring out a slowly dying cause,
    And ancient forms of party strife;
    Ring in the nobler modes of life,
    With sweeter manners, purer laws.

    Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
    The faithless coldness of the times;
    Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes
    But ring the fuller minstrel in.

    Ring out false pride in place and blood,
    The civic slander and the spite;
    Ring in the love of truth and right,
    Ring in the common love of good.

    Ring out old shapes of foul disease;
    Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
    Ring out the thousand wars of old,
    Ring in the thousand years of peace.

    Ring in the valiant man and free,
    The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
    Ring out the darkness of the land,
    Ring in the Christ that is to be.
    —–
    The old year has to go, and we must let it go and” ring happy bells across
    the snow (or the coldness of mortal beliefs) . Let us “ring in the Christ that is to
    be” – and in fact is always being as us. Let us “ring out the false, and ring in the new.”
    Looking for all the good that God is bestowing on us. This week’s Bible Lesson is full
    of the goodness of God.

  2. Thank you! This weeks Bible lesson is full of the goodness of God. If we are bringing in the new year full of good, then each day must represent a portion of this good. What a wonderful thing to look forward to each day..

  3. A “new” year. No an old baggage.
    Love the quote. Thanks!
    We need to keep each day fresh,
    clean, clear, new.
    God is an infinite provider of, new.
    Thanks Evan.

  4. Wonderful sentiment, Evan, thanks so much. And Maggie — thanks for including the entire poem. How timely and true! Best wishes for a Happy New Year to all! — Mike

  5. “Ring out the false. Ring in the true”. How simple, but yet so profound.
    Truth is the greatest gift that could be given or received. It makes
    everything right. It seems there are a lot of lies being told these days,
    but the Truth is slowly coming out and these untruths are being uncovered
    and corrected in so many ways.

  6. One of my favorite references at this time of year – from Miscellany 354: 13

    O blessings infinite!
    O glad New Year!
    Sweet sign and substance
    Of God’s presence here.

    Give us not only angels’ songs,
    But Science vast, to which belongs
    The tongue of angels
    And the Song of Songs.

    With thanks and best wishes to all!

  7. A few days ago Evan advised us to resist the temptation to divide our life into segments of time, such as years, that we should realize we live in eternity not time. He said, “God is our Life. This Life of God is not divided up into years. It is a perpetual unfoldment of God’s infinite good.”

    Though the concept of human time is unreal, it can be helpful to think of newness. A new year, if viewed spiritually, can be seen as a chance to acknowledge the continual renewal of our good in God. “Ring out the false, ring in the true” is our daily sweet spiritual work. Maggie thanks so much for the full poem!

  8. Thank you Maggie for posting the full version of the 19th century English poet’s poem. Tennyson’s idealism is a healing balm for the world.
    I will forward it to friends for inspired resolutions into the New Year.

  9. Thank you Rose, wonderful is your comment and also the poem from Maggie.

    Yes, I need to ring out any fear and ring in deep trust in God as all-in-all, omnipresence, omnipotence, omniacting and all-knowing divine Mind governing all lovingly and powerfully!!
    I’ll pray “Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit leading us into newness of Life” in SH by MBE. That shall be the ringing in of divine Truth and Love!
    Thank you very very much, Evan to let us everyday dive deeper into Truth and Love through your precious SpiritView !
    Am looking forward to progress of Good everywhere!!
