Work with a smile

“Don’t just do what you have to do to get by, but work heartily, as Christ’s servants doing what God wants you to do.

“And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you’re really serving God.”

~ Ephesians 6:6-7, MSG

  1. What a great way to start the day, Evan. I have recently had the opportunity to do just this in so many instances with friends who are seemingly going through some difficulties and have asked me to hold a good thought for them. One is having challenges with her cat not eating, one had her scared rescue cat run out the door yesterday, after having him be lost once before, and she is seemingly having troubles walking and can not easily keep trying to find him, another friend is missing her departed husband, another trying to sell and find a new house, and yet another having trouble children in her classroom where she is so stressed out, having to deal with them, rather than have the time to actually teach all of the children in her class. I am blessed that they have asked me to say a little prayer for them and it helps keep my thought in the right place for my own challenges and anxieties. That’s what it is really all about, isn’t it ~ supporting each other in our needs. I have been thinking of helping each of these friends individually with general supportive thoughts, but hadn’t thought of what is being done is also being done collectively to help as Christ’s servant. I love that! PS. None of them are CS, but I am so grateful to have CS to turn to in trying to be helpful.

  2. Great Thoughts, Good Comments! I’ve been noticing, in my own thought, how easy it is to let myself feel frustrated, impatient, etc. World Thought seems to be going thru the same thing. Only way out for me and the World: Turn humbly to God, our Higher Power, our Father-Mother- Love and surrender all ego, wanting to be right, wanting my way, etc. Striving to Let Love Take the Lead! Love to All!

  3. This brings to mind Mrs. Eddy’s statement in Miscellany (p.165:19) “What am I?…I am able to impart truth, health, and happiness, and this is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing.” Serving God…the impetus for our work and our reason for existing. (=

  4. Thanks for the reminder Evan. But at times it is difficult to work heartily and with a smile, more so when you are constrained for time, have to meet deadlines and the work is a boring routine. Travelling long distance to get to your work place and in crowded trains, certainly does not and can not bring smiles. Its like a daily punishment.
Yes but when we work for God and we know our reward and our promotion comes directly from Him, does help a lot. This thought brings peace and comfort and puts envying and competition away from thought, since we know that if we are serving God, we will not be deprived of the due reward.

  5. Dear Nergish, long commutes can be a wonderful opportunity for prayer, for us, for those around us, for our country, for our world. If you have access to headphones it might help to listen to uplifting music, taped articles or Bible lessons, etc. Godspeed! (=
