She let the tooth go

September 15, 2015 | 8 comments

A friend told me that she was scheduled to have a wisdom tooth removed. During the appointment, the dentist told her that the tooth was in a difficult position to get out and it was going to require extraordinary effort to remove it. The procedure he outlined sounded scary and ominous to her.

When the dentist left the room to get ready, she took the opportunity to pray for a better outcome than predicted.

She instructed her thought that her tooth had served its purpose and was no longer needed. She had no desire to hold on to it and it had no desire or ability to remain in place. She then lifted her thought to the spiritual level of knowing everything about her being was ordered and governed by the one Mind that kept her in a perfect state of harmony. There was nothing to fear. She found her peace.

The dentist came back into the room, began the operation, and to his utter amazement, the tooth released and came out with no trouble at all. The procedure happened in seconds. He was so surprised, and happy. So was my friend.

“Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously.” Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 392

  1. Letting go of erroneous thinking is truly a marvelous experience. Thank you for sharing this with us Evan. Dentistry has often been my soft spot.

  2. I have been bedriden for 5 years and I couldn’t go to a Dentist since I would have to be laid down. 2 teeth had to be pulled. One of my nurse aides whose nick name is Savvy was a professional hygienist before becoming an aide and she knew how to clean the teeth so well that I never had to have the teeth pulled. Boy was she a wiz at this, she deserves a Medal of Honor.

  3. Thanks, Evan! To go a little further with what Josef said, and to go along with our C.S. Bible Lesson this week: Erroneous thinking is believing that matter is substance, instead of spiritual ideas. If we can Let Go of the belief that Matter is real substance, and see that it is only a Human Concept, and then Grasp the idea that Spiritual Ideas are Substance, we can actually replace the false belief with the new true idea and see Healing Happen! WaHoo!!!

  4. I have had so many healing s in the dentist chair. My dentist has said many times, “there is more going on here than meets the eye” when she saw a dire prediction as “the way it is” and that view has been turned around through this same prayer…..Knowing who I am as God’s most beloved, provided for and loved child. Every triumph over “evil suggestion” is a blessing all of us can have, each time we turn to God, our Father/Mother and ask to see through His vision…..and align our thought to His….then we can truly see and experience what is REAL and “THAT” is always better than the human, False view….Thanks for the good reminder of more good I have experienced through prayer as learned in Christian Science….Loving the world, caydee

  5. I really appreciated this lesson. Thank you to everyone for your sharing thoughts. It is so easy to just get trapped in error’s web! To see the 100% spiritual man is what is necessary.

  6. I appreciate the thoughts presented. I particularly like the idea of letting go of a tooth that has no more purpose. I will see things differently next time at the dentist. Thank you

  7. I also have a friend who needed a tooth pulled. She prayed on her way to the dentist and before she reached the office, it fell out in her mouth. She was so thrilled because she didn’t have dental insurance!

    God is amazing!

  8. “…she instructed her thought…” That statement struck a cord with me. We don’t argue and wrestle with error. We have scriptural authority and divine understanding to instruct our thought with the Truth of being. Mrs. Eddy tells us not to stand in front of a blackboard and pray the principle of mathematics solves the problem. Step up to the board with the authority of understanding, solve the problem, prove the science, and use it for greater things. Thank you for these wonderful spiritual views.
