Exit the myth

May 26, 2026 | 15 comments

What is it that gives you continuity, that keeps you alive forever?  It’s not matter, or anything to do with mortality that keeps you going.  It’s Spirit, the Life of God that keeps you alive today, and tomorrow, and forever!

As the apostle Paul writes, “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (I Corinthians 15:22).  Death is the end.  No more.  And that’s the fate of Adam, to be “no more.”  But that’s not you.  You live forever with God in Spirit.  Which means, mortality is a myth.  Adam is a myth.  As Paul states, the myth ends.  However, you, as a child of God, do not.  You live forever in Christ, not just tomorrow, but today too.

Mary Baker Eddy makes it clear, “The mortality of man is a myth, for man is immortal” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 545).

Don’t try to live a myth.  It’s no fun there.  Live reality.  Live your spiritual Life with God where health abounds and Life is a joy.  It’s more fun there.

  1. What a treatment for us all today. Thank you so much Evan.
To understand what eternal Life is ….and to understand the ‘myth’ that mortal mind dances before us , can be a challenging ( but not impossible ) thought balance. I was pondering how I could perceive a more accurate experience of life as spiritual , when it occurred to me that I’m not just working this out from today. What is my spiritual journey ? It occurred to me that I was forgetting my spiritual being doesn’t start today , reading the lesson sermon perhaps, but has always been , established by God our cause and creator…..
I’ve said it before…I’m still learning…or should I say divine Mind is still knocking at the door❣️

  2. Lovely sentiments Barbara. Yes it’s an ongoing challenge to understand reality. I can not really get my head around being an idea! it sounds too vague and ethereal. There must be another description which would make it easier to understand. Thank you Evan for your wonderful insights and guidance on the journey.

    1. Hi Caz, I hear you! What helps me is the number analogy. If you write the number 5 on a piece of paper, there it is, you see it, but that’s not the substance of the number 5. If you wad up the paper and throw it away, where did 5 go? Does it still exists? Yes, because 5 doesn’t exist on paper (or on a calculator or computer) although that’s how we make use of it. 5 is an idea and has always existed and will forever exist. Each number is unique, useful, necessary, infinite. So, we have this material body but it’s not the substance of our being. We live in Spirit, consciousness. MBE wrote: “Man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique. He is the compound idea of God, including all right ideas”. SH p 475. I hope that helps.

    2. Hi Caz. Mrs Eddy said that Jesus was the highest human concept of the divine idea. I find it helpful to think of myself too as a temporary human concept of the divine idea, the embodiment of all right ideas. I hope I am right in saying that.
I read in an article: “Your body is your spiritual identity, your unique embodiment of divine ideas and qualities. You do not have another.”
I hope that is useful. L.X

    3. Such wonderful inspiration in all of these messages of Love.
Thank you Evan and all. L – I love the comment you gave and
very good way of describing our True existence. I had heard of
someone from another country coming to the USA during winter
when all of the trees were dormant, had no leaves and everything
appeared to be “dead”. They had never experienced this before
and thought the world was coming to an end. But as in Spring,
and the delightful bee on the flowers above, what appeared to be
the end of the world, was not. How fooled we are sometimes with
the matter picture that can deceive us into believing in a false
understanding of what life really is.

    4. I can relate to your description of idea as sounding too vague and ethereal. I’ve been thinking about “idea” the past couple of weeks, and it’s a realization that it’s not what I’m thinking about it, but it’s what God is thinking/knowing/conscious of. Below is a testimony I posted on SV a few weeks ago, “Seeing what God sees” i.e. what God “beholds”. Here’s an excerpt regarding a tooth issue:

“Whenever I brushed my teeth, I affirmed that “Bones have only the substance of thought which forms them” (Science and Health, p. 423) and prayed to see the spiritual substance of God’s beholding.” (from an article by Norma Presmeg from the 6/30/25 issue of The Christian Science Sentinel.)

Also an article by Louis Benjamin that has been posted before. He says of a healing of a shoulder issue: “My consciousness yielded to the realization of the omnipresence of God’s idea—in other words, that I was a “thought” in the consciousness of divine Mind and therefore expressed the nature of this Mind. Within 24 hours I was free, and the condition has never recurred.”

  3. Looking for spiritual understanding we can learn from Mrs. Eddy’s following citation This is what we need to understand.
It takes usrright out of the ills of the false material senses, and
brings us into the eternal harmony of spiritual sense – the real
    senses of man are spiritual.

“Human philosophy has made God manlike. Christian Science makes man Godlike. The first is error; the latter is truth. Metaphysics is above physics, and matter does not enter into metaphysical premises or conclusions. The categories of metaphysics rest on one basis, the divine Mind. Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul.

These ideas are perfectly real and tangible to spiritual consciousness, and they have this advantage over the objects and thoughts of material sense, — they are good and eternal.”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 269:9–20)

    1. I agree with Barbara from the UK. I am going to use your comment as part of our metaphysical meeting this morning at work. Thank you so much for your comment.

  4. The Bible lesson this week on mesmerism is so accurate of what goes on in this temporary experience. Sometimes I feel like Eve, the Apple appears to be so tempting and so beautiful and good to eat. Gratefully we have Science to wake us up and alert us to the true path. Without Science we would be wandering in the myth.
