If at present content with idleness, we must become dissatisfied with it.
~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 240
To demonstrate Life in Spirit, thought must move from material sense to spiritual sense, from complacency with mortal mind to active engagement with divine Mind.
As a hiker knows from hiking mountains, it takes preparation and effort to trek from the bottom of the hill to the top. One cannot stand at the bottom and think about being at the top. One needs to make effort to get there. He needs to put on his shoes and start walking until he arrives at his desired destination.
The same rule applies to demonstrating spiritual truth. It takes effort and action to accomplish results. We cannot stand idly by dreaming away the hours in material sense and advance rapidly with spiritual sense. We need to wake up from any mesmeric trance of life in matter and start trekking with Life in Spirit.
The effort is worth the reward, for faithful obedience to Truth brings health, harmony and heavenly peace our way.
Idleness is a deceptive feeling. When indulged, it might feel okay to be doing nothing. But if one is honest, doing nothing yields nothing. And it often opens thought to wayward influences that are not in one’s best interest to follow.
Live a productive life. Be progressive. Keep growing spiritually. You will love the results.
A wonderful analogy, thank you Evan!
I think you might have meant ‘or’ in this sentence, instead of ‘and’ though;
“We can stand idly by dreaming away the hours in material sense AND (OR) advance rapidly with spiritual sense.“
You can’t do both at the same time 🙂
Another analogy I like is that you can research and watch tutorials about how to swim, but that will never replace actually getting into the water and practicing it!
Thanks again for your gentle, daily guidance, Evan!
Ah yes swapping ‘can’ for ‘cannot’, would also do the trick! 🙂
Yes. Progress is a law of God.
Evan, did you mean “we can,” or “can’t” …stand idly by dreaming away the hours and advance spiritually…”
Perhaps a typo? (Though your meaning is obvious!)
Please clarify. Thank you.
Ever a Fan! :-)))
Yes, a typo. Thanks for pointing it out! All fixed.
Your wonderful daily reminders of how to achieve spiritual progress are sincerely appreciated.
I love the instruction to have “….active engagement with divine Mind”. This is something we can do 24/7. Thank you, Evan.
Yes! Love it too. ❣️
There’s a typo in the third paragraph…
In other words, in order to play a tune, the pianist must touch the keys, but it is the spirit that makes the music.
Josef, Evan’s message is a good analogy for me, being
a pianist. I can relate that the pianist doesn’t just touch
the keys, he works extremely hard with what he has learned
from a good teacher and put into practise every day, to overcome any problems that crop up in preparation of the performance of musical compositions. Evan know this, being a gifted pianist himself. So we need to work very hard every day, to overcome according to the teachings of Christian Science, the many problems which may crop up in our daily lives by utilising the rules of this Science, just as we do in the performance of music. “Practice makes perfect,” so says the proverb – and it is true.
“Shepherd show me how to go,
O’er the hillside steep.
How to gather, how to sow,
How to feed Thy sheep. ……”
I love this analogy, Josef. I’ll remember it when playing. Thank you and much gratitude to Evan, as always.
Love the message

Yes, there appears to be a glitch with a link in the Feedblitz daily notification many of you receive. I don’t think there is any danger. SpiritView is fine. I expect it will be solved soon. Thanks.
