Affirm health, never sickness

January 27, 2022 | 24 comments

Are you daily, hourly, affirming yourself to be in excellent health?

The human mind experiences what it believes, so to stay healthy, it’s critical that it agrees with health, and never with disease.

Mary Baker Eddy, a successful Christian healer, wrote,

“Not muscles, nerves, nor bones, but mortal mind makes the whole body ‘sick, and the whole heart faint;’ whereas divine Mind heals.

“When this is understood, we shall never affirm concerning the body what we do not wish to have manifested. We shall not call the body weak, if we would have it strong; for the belief in feebleness must obtain in the human mind before it can be made manifest on the body, and the destruction of the belief will be the removal of its effects” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 219).

Do yourself a favor today. Agree with health. Affirm health alone, and never disease.

Acknowledge divine Mind’s absolute government of your being and stay well.

  1. Must we lend a hand
    to guide the orbiting moon?
Must we orchestrate the stars at night?
The Mind that holds the sparrow and all worlds
Will every moment care for you aright.

  2. Thank you Evan for this timely reminder that we are not vulnerable mortals living in a world that seems rampant with age-related or environmental beliefs. I frequently sing hymn 144 from the Christian Science Hymnal which begins ‘In atmosphere of Love Divine, we live and move and breathe…’. When I affirm this Truth from God, then I notice the lies about health just lose interest and fade away. Wishing everyone a joy-filled day!

  3. Thank you for the joy-filled thoughts that really need to be affirmed daily and sometimes moment by moment. Love leads the way make sure that we are paying attention to the right voice. Lindalou

  4. Philippians 4:8
    King James Version
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

    1. Rod I’ve always appreciated this verse because it gives us clear instructions on how and where to guide our thinking. Also love verse 6:
“Be care-ful (worried) for no-thing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication (yielding) with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

  5. Evan, thank you for “Acknowledge divine Mind’s absolute government of your being and stay well.” Also love the picture, it has a sense of the joyous welcoming and receiving of Love.

I was a bit confused though by the statement about getting the human mind to believe and agree with health. It reminded me of positive thinking or positive affirmation which are not part of CS. I understood that we do not work with changing material mind, which is incapable of recognizing truth. Appreciate any help or insights so I can gain a greater understanding of this point.

Thanks and blessed day to all!

    1. You are correct, that the human mind is not a healer.

As a reflection of divine Mind, it is natural and normal for you to affirm health. It’s what you do as a spiritually minded child of God. It is not the human mind. It’s the divine Mind expressed through you.

There is one Mind, the divine Mind. And you exist to express its spiritual mindedness!

      Hope that helps.

      1. Evan and Rose, I hadn’t seen Evan’s reply when I posted the citations from S&H. Isn’t what you posted, Evan, the way of changing the base of the human mind as Mrs. Eddy states? And doesn’t that indicate that it is the way to become more spiritually minded? Obviously, I’m still working on this.

      2. Evan, thank you kindly for your feedback regarding my question. It does help to make the distinction clearer.

And thank you also Pat W for your S&H references and your comments. As you say, we are all still working on this as we grow together in our understanding.

      3. Thank you very much for this clarification dear Evan. And I appreciate and love your so helpful SpiritView of today very much!
I also am still learning to demonstrate Christian Science. But what I do understand, that all mighty and all loving God is our Health, and it is therefore permanent – what a great comfort to know that. Love to Evan and a l l !♡

    2. Rose, I trust these statements from Science and Health speak to the need to change the human mind.

The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind.
      (SH 162:9)
The human mind acts more powerfully to offset the discords of matter and the ills of flesh, in proportion as it puts less weight into the material or fleshly scale and more weight into the spiritual scale.
      (SH 155:21–25)
Ignorant that the human mind governs the body, its phenomenon, the invalid may unwittingly add more fear to the mental reservoir already overflowing with that emotion.
      (SH 180:13)
If it were not for what the human mind says of the body, the body, like the inanimate wheel, would never be weary.
      (SH 218:4–6)

      1. Rose and Pat W, thank you for bringing this up about human mind. It has been confusing for me…human mind transitioning to Divine Mind, and how do I get there? Or human mind vs. Divine Mind? Or just Divine Mind?….these were questions I couldn’t seem to get clarity on until I read John Biggs article, “What is real?” which I’ve posted here before. Then it clicked for me. From John, “If this was really all mental, why would I try to personally deal with something within my own sense of things? Why not let the perfect, true Mind—the existence and wisdom of God, good itself—just wrap me up and give me my information?” And John goes on to explain how we do this through prayer, etc.

        1. Just remembered another explanation about the human mind from Larissa Snorek’s article “Begin with the solution”: “Feeling this divine goodness is a natural result of understanding God as infinite, divine Mind. Then the human mind – our limited thinking – drops all striving for what doesn’t satisfy and exchanges flawed, human concepts for the divine consciousness of what is real and enduring. Moments of prayer enable us to yield to the awareness of divine Mind as the one divine consciousness…”.

        2. J thanks for your comments and for the link to the John Biggs article. Sounds like it will be perfect to help me get more insight on human mind/Divine Mind. Look forward to reading it. Sending love your way.

  6. – The material senses – eyes, ears ,etc. – never tell the truth about ANYTHING. For truth, one needs to go to God. (Barbara Vining)
    – It’s yielding to: the idea that matter is not the substance of our being, that evil is not a real power, and that Spirit is ALL.
    – Christian Science starts from a different perspective – health, wholeness, perfection is the established fact – NOW – and by seeing this clearly, we eliminate the belief that there is some problem we need to get rid of.
    – Material sense = bad data about ourselves. Omnipotent and infinite Mind made all and includes all. This Mind does not make mistakes and subsequently corrects them.

      1. You’re welcome MartyG. I write down inspiring quotes that I have read…sometimes with the author’s name, and sometimes not. My pleasure to share them. 🙂

  7. Thank you all for the wonderful ideas shared and I’m sharing with others by forwarding emails, too. Really appreciate it with some illness & work issues recently and knowing None of us are liable to mental or other contagious experiences, since Mind,Love, God is All in all and discord of body or daily situations or circumstances is not real if not good, therefore not of God’s making or allowing. So grateful to wrap myself in these healing and heartening ideas and prayers, really. And let’s know they are true for all mankind and creatures, too!! Thanks to all!

  8. Just a little comment to J About being careful, when I mentally say that to myself I respond with”prayerful”
    instead!

Love to Evan and all in this awesome family!
