Avoid false hopes

May 19, 2022 | 29 comments

If you want to see your hopes realized, hope in God!

Friends may come up short, business deals may fall through, the body may not do what you think it should do, family members may change their mind, the economy may fail, the weather may turn bad, flights may be cancelled, and funds may run out, but the love and care of God always flows without limit.

When we put our hope in God, we always realize the joy we seek, for the goodness of God is a certain blessing.

If we put our hope in something material or human, our expectation may never come to fruition, for the temporal is well…temporal.

So, save yourself from disappointment, frustration, and sorrow. Put all your hope in God from the beginning, and rest assured of certain success.

It’s always the human and material that come up short. Spirit never comes up short.

With God, the good keeps multiplying without end, for the resources of Spirit are infinite, the wisdom of Mind unending, and the care of Love without bounds.

As the Psalmist wisely wrote, “Where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you” (Psalms 39:7).

Put your hope in God and avoid the pitfalls of false hopes. What you gain from God is never lost or taken from you.

  1. Thanks Evan. I’m trying very hard to keep thoughts spiritual and your posts are always welcome in doing this more constantly. I enjoyed the last video at the lake. Beautiful setting and your thoughts were spot on.
    I always read Spiritview.

      1. Angie thank you for the excellent article. The writing style was comforting and powerful at the same time. She said, “One is surprised sometimes to find how petty are those things which occupy thought to the exclusion of divine ideas!” So true, I catch thought so often going off in unproductive directions. She gives a remedy for this, “In the contemplation of man as God’s image, spiritual and not material, disease, unhappiness, jealousy, and pride are cast out.” I like the word contemplation, it means to view or consider with continued attention. Yes this is what I need.

  2. One of the best examples in the Bible of the fruition of hope is that of Joseph, – cast into a pit by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused and imprisoned for two years, he stayed loyal to God. Hope and condemnation do not go together, and his honesty and love for all were blessed. Evan writes “What you gain from God is never lost or taken from you.” The material picture is all that is false, our image and likeness of God ever true. Joseph encapsulated “Trust the Eternal”, and how! So can we, for Love provides all our needs. Hope is based on reality.
“Spiritual sense, contradicting the material senses, involves intuition, hope, faith, understanding, fruition, reality.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 298:13–15)

    1. Thank you Ken for reminding us of Joseph, What a triumph.
Yes “The material picture is all that is false ”
Spirit is the real and eternal. Matter is mortal error” Science and Health p 468.
Our image and likeness of God is present always – it is spiritual, perfect, eternal.
That cannot be lost, stolen, or taken away from us — all mankind.

  3. Super way o start the day! Monday was an alumni Zoom meeting which became intense . It was full of worry over current events in the news. I held my peace, knowing I had to say something, but then a pastor classmate spoke up and brought God into the picture. He did a beautiful job while giving us things to think/pray about. Even though I feel weak in the area of sharing strong beliefs of what I’ve learned about Christian Science, your message helps me shape my direction of thought at least to express myself as God’s image and likeness.
    Thank you.

    1. Dear Rhondda,
the most important and only thing God wants you to do, is to express Him as His wonderful likeness in all you are doing!
      Lots of Love!

  4. Thank you for this today Evan and thank you Angie for an excellent article demonstrating the best and only place to devote our listening ear to… the ever present consciousness that is God.
All that I am and experience is expressed from within,..precious, perfect and indestructible ❣️

  5. I love this question because it allows me to be lead to the right thought, not on hopes but the spiritual realities of being.Thank you Evan.

  6. Thank Evan. That insight really helped me today. It is so tempting to believe that a person, place or situation can be a source of good. God is the only source we need to look toward.

  7. Evan, thanks for, “What you gain from God is never lost or taken from you.” That fear of losing our good, promoted by widespread mortal beliefs (error), makes people turn to material striving to regain happiness we think we can lose.

Relying on matter for anything substantial leads to anxiety, frustration and confusion when we grapple with matter’s instability, it’s ups and downs, comings and goings. God and His harmony are what is stable and we can’t go wrong relying on Him in all areas of life.

  8. I asked Evan if I could ask a question.
He generously said that I could.
I would like to find where this is located.
In an article, testimony, talk? I did not
    have enough information for Boston.

A very young child had his leg hit by an
    electric lawnmower. When the mower
was removed, and the situation wasn’t
as serious as expected, he said, “It’s a grateful
thing, mom, mother? … it’s a grateful thing.

    Thanks. ❤️

    1. Dear M,
I remember this story very well. The testimony you refer to is in Robert Peel’s book “Spiritual Healing in a Scientific Age” on pages 103 – 108. It is indeed a wonderful testimony.

    2. May I add that the situation was very serious, but the child was healed through prayer, although he had to be in hospital for some time, because the law required that a child be treated medically despite the parents wish to have only Christian Science help for him. I quote his mother (p.107) : “When we were finally allowed to go home …..our son started out on the couch lying down, then he wanted to try to stand, to wear socks, boots, to try to walk, to run, tu jump, to ride his tricycle, to dig with a shovel in the garden, he learned to drop kick the soccer ball. And at each new step in his healing and increased strength he would call to me or run to me and shout, “A grateful thing, Mom, A grateful thing,” and then he would demonstrate how he could jump out of the swing at its full arc and land on both legs, or whatever his new victory was. “Thank you, God,” he would say over and over. This true gratitude and trust hastened his healing and continued to restrengthen his trust in his Father-Mother God.”

  9. Thank you Evan for your clear reasoning and guidance on where true happiness is found. And Angie, what a beautiful article you referenced! It prompts me to be more diligent in daily and hourly watching thought “… to exchange the pleasures and pains of sense for the joys of Soul.” Science and Health pg. 390

    I so love Spiritview.

  10. I’ve been dealing with a business deal that involves all my siblings inheritance… I’m the sole trustee and the details have been overwhelming even says our lawyer who has spent a lifetime with complex deals. Near the end I’ve done all on my part that I can see to do, we seem to be at the mercy of others. We wait, something I’ve not been able to do in months. Evan’s post helps me to see the bigger picture, & simply where I need to focus now….. & always! Thank you.

  11. Thank you Evan.
With this trust our prayers will be more effective — for our own spiritual growth, and for the hungering hearts including Ukraine and the other wars. Whether inside us, or in the world.
Peace. Harmony. Strength. Goodness. God is governing, unopposed!

  12. Thank you very much Evan for a good outlook for Heaven based thinking!
Wonderful article Angie thanks for digging into the archives they are a blessing.

  13. “As the Psalmist wisely wrote, “Where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you” (Psalms 39:7).”

Thanks Evan! Sometimes I think it is in me, but it really is in God. Thank you for sharing this.

  16. Thank you very vety much for your healing SpiritView dear Evan! It is really a wonderful start into God’s day, trusting Him and His blissful guidance. And I am thankful for the richness of lovely Inspirations from all SpiritView Friends here today, actually every day!♡

While today I urgently needed help with my printer which did not function at that time, and as clerk of my branchchurch I had to print out important letters, I sat down very quietly and prayed, clearly knowing that with God all things are possible and He would show me the right way. And while I listened the thought came to get the ink cartouche out of the printer again, there i noticed that i did not pull off the protecting film the inkcartouche. After correcting this little mistake i could print again.
As I felt very happy and grateful, I knew God gave me the right idea which lead to this blessing success. I fully put my trust in God . And as it is 1o’clock am here in Germany I now put my trust in our loving and caring Father-Mother God for a peaceful nightrest for me and all who need it , as well.

Am deeply grateful for SpiritView which blesses us all! ♡
