Be sure to act on truth

August 19, 2021 | 21 comments

An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

One can learn many truths about God and spiritual healing from reading the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy.  It is also important to take those truths and live them.

A “ton” of truths in theory are not helpful until translated into action.

Be sure to not just read about the love of God. Live it!

Don’t just study about healing with spiritual truth. Do it!

Truth brings good effects when acted upon.

Study is good. Action is better!

  1. Don’t just study healing – do It! Excellent advice and more on that theme please Evan! Thank you!

  2. Very important message for us all.

For instance, if you want to make a cake, it is absolutely no good to just read
the recipe and then expect the cake to make itself. If we desire to manifest the Truth
and `Love, we have to gather all the spiritual ingredients that are set out for us in the Bible and
Science & Health, and then get to work, follow the instructions, and so bring the Truth and Love to light in our lives.

    1. I like the analogy to following a recipe by reading and making the food! Today has plenty of opportunities for me to share the Truth with showing joy, patience, grace, and plenty more!

  3. Daily, the lesson this week on Mind, The Daily Lift, Spirit View. More and more important to the beginning of each new day. articles, reflections, elevating us above material sense.
Most of all daily prayer for ourselves, our family, our church, our community, our city, our state, our country, our world. Love enfolds everyone in spiritual bliss. Helping me to see His everpresent healing Lovingkindness in everything. Love for today.
Dis-satisfied with error. A Daily Lift offering available to all….

  4. This reminds me of a message on Divine command – then a right idea – then act. Sometimes I think the action is to wait and be still. Listen. Thank you for this today..

  5. Dear Angie,
The article brought to mind a book entitled “Letters to Thelma”, written by Estelle Jackson CS.
I was given an autographed copy back in the seventies by this most wonderful loving practitioner.
I don’t know if it’s available. It contains many instructive sessions of Sunday School teachings
between her and daughter Thelma, who at that time was teaching Sunday School, sharing in the classroom, the interaction of student and teacher. She had that same gift described in that helpful article you presented this morning.
One day shopping I saw a beautiful greeting card. I was impelled to pick it up and read it. It described Estelle perfectly. I bought it. And sent it to Estelle with a gift.
Estelle called me a couple days later. She exclaimed “David, how did you know today is my birthday?”
I shall never forget her healing ways and ways of thinking in terms of Loving and healing.

    1. Amazing that you were so spiritually in tune and led to send her a card and gift not “knowing” it was her birthday. But your inner knowing was alive and active. Great! Maybe life is lived more and more on the intuitive level as we rise ever higher in understanding and spiritual awareness. Thanks for the inspiration David.

  6. Very pertinent ideas for me in the message today. Thank you, Evan, and blog readers for these healing thoughts. Now, the next important step for me is to act., to put into practice what I’m learning.

  7. Always love having these wonderful inspirations to read and share . Thank you Evan and to all readers and commenters. Here is a citation for Science and Health that I was reminded of:

There is neither place nor opportunity in Science for error
1 of any sort. Every day makes its demands upon us for
higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power.
3 These proofs consist solely in the destruction Profession and proof
of sin, sickness, and death by the power of
Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of
6 progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law de-
mands of us only what we can certainly fulfil.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 232:32)

  8. Once whien leaving for a long drive not feeling well, I called a a Christian Science teacher to pray for me. I told him I was going to listen to Christian Science CDs all the way. He asked “Why don’t you just listen to God?” I did, and I was healed.

    1. Wow Katie, I love that demonstration. So simple and powerful, thanks for mentioning it. As Rhondda said, sometimes the best action is to wait and be still, listen. We are instructed in the Bible to “Be still and know that I am God.”

Also thanks David for the quote from S&H p. 232 that begins, “There is neither place nor opportunity in Science for error of any sort.” I read on and found a great nugget at the bottom of p. 233, “The utterance of Truth is designed to rebuke and destroy error.” Now there is an action we can all take with confidence of good results. Blessed day to my fellow knowers and expressors of Truth!

  9. The spiritual laws of our being are always accessible, always here ….not just for believing in but to enjoy and experience right now. Excellent Evan…don’t just live your life…but image Gods idea of Life❣️

  10. Once I was troubled by a situation and kept saying over and over in my head, “I will listen for Thy voice” (MBE’s “Feed My Sheep”).
Suddenly I realized what I was doing, stopped the mental talking and started just listening. I heard what I needed to hear right away. Problem solved. Just “do” what needs to be done. Thanks Evan as always.

  11. “Study is good action is better”. Well yes, principally that is of course right. However, without studying, I will not say there is no good acting. But that acting in doing some good might be very loving and acts of kindness, and very helpful humanly, but it might not be grounded on spiritual Love and Principal which is God if the study of divine Science did not precede the good action. I want to express that Studying is equal important as good actions.
Am very thankful for Evan’s admonition and I know what Evan wants to say with this wonderful SpiritView! That it is important that after our deep studies to put it into healing actions. ♡
