Celebrating true Christmas

December 24, 2012 | 10 comments

Christmas Eve is here. Are you ready?
[It’s a trick question.]
Of course you’re ready!
Christmas is much more than eating and drinking, opening presents and being with people, or feeling badly because there are no presents to open or people to be with.
Christmas is an experience of Spirit. It’s spiritual mindedness, feeling close to God, and living true to one’s spiritual individuality. It’s not a temporal pleasure or pain of the flesh. It’s a bit of heaven here on earth free to anyone willing to receive it.
Mary Baker Eddy wrote,
“In Christian Science, Christmas stands for the real, the absolute and eternal, — for the things of Spirit, not of matter.
“The basis of Christmas is the rock, Christ Jesus; its fruits are inspiration and spiritual understanding of joy and rejoicing, — not because of tradition, usage, or corporeal pleasures, but because of fundamental and demonstrable truth, because of the heaven within us. The basis of Christmas is love loving its enemies, returning good for evil, love that “suffereth long, and is kind.” The true spirit of Christmas elevates medicine to Mind; it casts out evils, heals the sick, raises the dormant faculties, appeals to all conditions, and supplies every need of man” Miscellany p. 260.
What a gift! Christmas is Christ healing us, lifting thought above matter to Spirit, and finding the joys of eternal Life in divine Love.
So, what are you waiting for? There is no time to lose in sense, idle or grouse. Celebrate true Christmas by spiritualizing thought, giving of your right thoughts generously, loving unselfishly, and casting out mental error. You’ll be a better person for it, and so will everyone around you. Christmas is not what we get. It’s what we give.

  1. Evan, thank you indeed for this inspiration and healing message. Thank you for being this light through our humble obedience to Love.! Merry Christmas always!

  2. At first I wasn’t sure if you were a “Wise Man” or a Shepherd!! But after following your messages for some time, I have concluded you are both!! I talk to your Father a lot and He is pleased with you and your lovely gifts of inspiration for your readers. Thanks Evan.

  3. Inspiration is what is needed to overcome all this mortal strife. It’s a figment of mortal, material thinking that takes a wonderful period and reverses it to temp people to believe that Christmas is only for gift giving such as Toys for tots, or a nice meal with friends and family. Christmas is so much more. It’s the daily acceptance of mans immortal likeness to God, always and forever.

  4. Evan, what an inspiring message. Thank you. I think we ought to send a copy of Science and Health to every member of Congress or send you to Washington. Merry Christmas.

  5. Dear Evan,
Thank you for your timely message. Tomorrow, where I reside, we are gathering together (around 50) to celebrate Christmas with a Luncheon. At that time I shall be sharing your healing message with all those present. I am so very grateful.

May the beauty of Christmas be an inspiration to you throughout the year.

  6. I, as usual, have no presents to open or people to be with on Christmas. Nevertheless, thanks to Christian Science, I feel neither alone or deprived. This season offers a great opportunity to go deeper into Love and express it in every way possible!

  7. The Bible Lesson on Christian Science speaks to us from II Corinthians 9:15 thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
I was so grateful after midnight when I received my unspeakable gift under the marginal heading, Remedy for fever, Science and Health 376:17. I felt its profound meaning burn within me. Yes Evan it is all about what you have said here about a gift-“Christ healing us, lifting thought above matter to Spirit, and finding the joys of eternal Life in divine Love.” I could relate to what you are saying because I had experienced the joy! Christ has opened my gift for me. Thanks again Evan for sharing your unspeakable gifts. I was led to your page lately and have read some of your insights which led to deeper meanings to me.

  8. Evan, I’m new to “Spiritview” and want to thank you for your inspiring words and for the gift of your ministry itself.

May every joy and blessing be yours this Christmas and New Year.
