Don’t accept. Reject!

It was a highly unusual experience.
It happened at the beginning of a lecture I gave a while back.
I was standing in the front of a room filled with people listening to a gentlemen introduce me for my talk that evening. As I stood watching the introducer, I was suddenly overwhelmed by an extremely aggressive suggestion of, “You are weak and tired. You cannot give this talk. You won’t make it through to the end.”
My legs went wobbly, my knees started to buckle. Energy drained out of my body at lightning speed and I thought I was going to drop to the floor.
Realizing the severity of the situation and the need to act fast, as I didn’t wish to capitulate in front of all those attendees, the truth instantly flashed in my consciousness: “You can either accept this verdict or reject it. It’s your choice.”
I made a rapid choice. I rejected it! And I rejected it vehemently.
No sooner did I reject the evil proposal, but strength welled in my body, my knees straightened up, my head cleared and the threat vanished. It was an instantaneous freedom. And a valuable lesson!
Aggressive suggestions, unfortunately, present themselves frequently in the human experience. “You’re getting sick. You’re going broke. You’re not going to make it,” and on and on. Not one of them is legitimate, and they need to be rejected as quickly as they seem to appear.
Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously.” Mary Baker Eddy
Don’t accept any verdict of error.  Reject it!

  1. Evan, great Daily Lift today on the same subject! Meeting the aggressive suggestion head on–love that. The beautiful lady holding up her hand with firm NO says it all. I am going to show that picture in the Sunday School–who could ever forget that visual? You are so generous with your spiritual gifts, Evan. What a beautiful life you have.

  2. I’m with you. It’s the best form of defense. Rejection of these lies in the very first instant. Thanks

  3. I love your honesty in which you share your experiences showing we are all working together in confronting world beliefs. No one is ever, in his spiritual walk, above helping to contribute to humanity’s freedom from the challenges of aggressive hatred to the Christ message. Our challenges then take on an impersonal view keeping us always safe as we dwell in the Kingdom of Heaven and not a fictitious garden of Eden. Sher
