Don’t be impressed by the size of a problem

A long time student of Christian Science struggling with a severe physical ailment called in dismay and said, “I’ve never faced such a strong aggressive belief in my life!”
I reminded her to not be impressed. A zero is a zero no matter what size mortal mind wants to draw it. But I also pointed out that her understanding of God has never been stronger, bigger than or as effective as it is today either! So, she had the spiritual tools and understanding she needed to defeat that lie and prove its unreality. She happily agreed.
There is a lesson here for all of us.
As students advance in their understanding of God, it’s natural to face down larger errors of belief. Every error of belief has to be proven unreal before one steps into total heavenly consciousness, so the faster it happens, the better! Little ones are knocked down first and the bigger ones next as we metaphysically mature.
So, if you feel like you’re facing tougher odds than ever before despite all your study and consecrated prayer over the years, fear not. Remember that you have a greater understanding of Truth than ever before, too. And it is enough! You have what you need to affect a healing and move on to the next wonderful opportunity to prove God’s omnipotence and omnipresence.
“Unfathomable Mind is expressed. The depth, breadth, height, might, majesty, and glory of infinite Love fill all space. That is enough!”
Mary Baker Eddy (S&H 520:3)

  1. Thanks Evan – so helpful and spot-on again !!

I came across this some time ago – might have been a bumper sticker or such like – don’t remember – but the words have stayed with me ‘Don’t tell God how big your problem is – tell the problem how big your God is !’

  2. Thanks Evan!!!! I especially love your reminder that the trials or illusions we face are simply an opportunity to prove God’s Allness, nothing more! This is beautiful…

    Thanks!!!!!

    Monica 🙂

  3. Another perspective analogy! Great; thanks.

I like to see that it is not MY understanding of
the truth of being, but TRUTH itself that is
“healing me” (dissolving the illusion) of
“my problems.” Then I can relax a bit and
accept divine Love’s infinite love for me.

  4. I like to think of evil as the invasion of Normandy during WW11. The Alies battered the Nazis with great force and on the other hand the Nazis did double battering. But lo and behold the allies won. Isn’t so true that when we battle the lessor evil, it’s easier to win. But when we battle the greator, evil gives us a real 1, 2 punch. It does this in the hopes that it wins. This is not the time to give up. All it shows is that WE ARE WINNING.

  5. Excellent. Very helpful to me. I especially like the part about all challenges being just zeroes, with a big zero amounting to nothing more than a small zero. Both of them nothing, nonexistent, in God’s sight.

  6. Good Golly! Of course I know God more than ever before. That’s how I know how to turn to Him. Wow, what a simple concept I needed to realize. Thank you Evan, for your continued support and guidance. I feel closer right now!
