Face error fearlessly

February 20, 2024 | 23 comments

When error confronts you, withhold not the rebuke or the explanation which destroys error.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 452

If the carnal mind argues you are not smart enough to accomplish an assigned task at work, be quick to confront the error fearlessly and destroy it with truth. Know that God gives you all the wisdom and understanding you need to finish the task successfully.

If popular belief whispers, “You might catch a cold from a sniffling family member,” be quick to confront the error fearlessly and know that you are not going to pick up a disease from another person; health is a permanent part of your being; spiritual truth neutralizes germs and renders them harmless; and God made you healthy and keeps you healthy.

If your finances appear weak, confront any suggestion of lack fearlessly with an understanding of spiritual wealth flowing directly from God to you in the form of inspired ideas that reveal how you’re going to demonstrate abundance.

Any opinion, belief, or fear that contradicts the reality of God’s allness and goodness is error. Confront it fearlessly. Knock it out with spiritual truth. Serve God, not error.

  1. Thanks Evan:
Father-Mother give the understanding to lean
completely on your care, and dismiss error from my consciousness.
There can be no fear in Love, perfect Love cast out fear

  2. Thank you Evan. Thank you Lorna and all. We all need to be aware that Truth destroys fear of every kind. Once we live with this awareness, we can overcome every kind of fear without pain or suffering.

  3. This hymn comes to mind:-

    Hymn 154
In Thee, O Spirit true and tender,
    I find my life as God’s own child;
Within Thy light of glorious splendor /
I lose the earth-clouds drear and wild.

Within Thy love is safe abiding
    From every thought that giveth fear;
Within Thy truth a perfect chiding,
Should I forget that Thou art near.

In Thee I have no pain or sorrow,
No anxious thought, no load of care.
    Thou art the same today, tomorrow;
Thy love and truth are everywhere

    1. Thank you Maggie for sharing this hymn. It is my favourite and I have found strength, courage, protection and comfort from this hymn so many times. So nice to read it again this morning to start my day.

    2. Wow Maggie, thank you for that hymn, I love it! It’s so very assuring of God’s Love for us and very comforting and healing!!♡

    1. I had never heard that acronym before, Connie, Thank you! And Thank you
and love to all for such helpful and healing thoughts of confidence in a world
that seems so threatening to peace sometimes. To bring a smile:

“May your spirit soar throughout the vast cathedral of your being
May your mind whirl joyful cartwheels of creativity
May your heart sing sweet lullabies of timelessness.”
      – Jonathan Lockwood Huie

A fear free day of happiness to All.

  4. Yes. Thinking today about this potent line from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy:
“Expose and denounce the claims of evil and disease in all their forms, but realize no reality in them.”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 447:20–22)
Of course, if you realize no reality in them, you do this fearlessly!
You don’t fear what never existed! And that’s how we expose and denounce those lies.
“You never existed. You’re not a person, place, or thing. You’re just a lying claim coming from nowhere trying to darken my God-given understanding of Love’s absolutely perfect creation — God’s all power, presence, identity, intelligence, reality. In the history of the universe no shadow has ever darkened light or moved an object or destroyed truth. As Christ authoritatively declared, ‘Get out and enter into [any person or place] no more!'”

  5. Thank you all thank you Evan ! For the inspirational front picture !
More we practice this picture in our own screen ,( allness of Mind,)
The material illusion reruns in the néant, its nothingness where it belongs.
Now We are ready for God’s company all day long!

    1. Yes, Pp, the more I understand it … Real Reality, with each of us being the
real resident in Spirit, Mind and in Truth, in the read right and
Love is Wholly spiritual. Matter doesn’t matter – where divine Love reigns.

    1. Thank you, Martine. That article is very helpful to me at present. I as able to see more clearly that I can separate the false material claims from myself – see them as unreal illusions and not a part of me – and face them down fearlessly accordingly.

  6. “Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man..”
“Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God’s government.”- Science and Health page 393

Pages 390 to 395 of Science & Health are especially helpful in our endeavors to face error fearlessly. Thank you Evan,- and diane w. a.,for the powerful treatments!

  7. Evan, your message today brings to mind a healing that I had a few years ago when the belief of the covid pandemic was prevalent. One morning I woke up feeling alarmingly feverish, and overcome with symptoms of flu. The body’s claims seemed to consume my thought in my attempts to know the truth. After wrestling for some time with my prayerful efforts, it came to me to get in my car and go for a ride. While driving, I spoke out loud to the error, firmly declaring the truth of my perfect spiritual identity, — exercising my God given authority over beliefs of contagion and sickness. I audibly reversed each symptom –rejecting matter’s claim to power. I spoke to disease as one having authority over it,- declaring vehemently that I was untouched by any unreal mesmeric belief opposed to the allness and goodness of God. I affirmed God’s perfect qualities of health, wholeness, peace, purity and love,- asserting that I naturally reflected only these qualities.
When I arrived home half an hour later I was completely free of symptoms.

What a blessed gift we have in Christian Science! Thank you for reminding me of this healing.

  8. Thank you, Linda for sharing your testimony. And thanks, Maggie, for
sharing Hymn 154. The last verse is something I pray with daily. What a blessing this blog is, so thanks to Evan.

    1. HI Lori, I hope you had a chance to read my response to your comment on yesterday’s SpiritView. It was a little later in the day so you may not have looked back. All blessings to you, and everyone here.

  9. Thank you, Evan and all! I recently was completely healed of a couple of so-called “aging” beliefs which had continued for a number of months and have been rejoicing in perfect freedom. No, we do not have to fear, because God is All and governs us perfectly each moment.

    Love to all,
    Karen

  10. Thank you Martine for the article “Face the fear down”. It reminded me of my sister who was jogging on a narrow winding path on a mountain with her dog. She came upon a mountain lion right in front of her a few yards away. She froze as well as her dog (who chases everything) and starred down the lion. She felt God’s presence and just stood there holding her ground. Eventually the lion started down the side of the mountain. She said she never ran so fast home!! God is good and always there for his children. God is great!!!

    1. That was a great demonstration, Barbara. Thank you for sharing it. It reminds
me of an experience I had years ago, when I was walking with my dog alone on
a secluded, wooded park trail, which I would normally not do. Dogs were supposed
to be on a leash, which my dog was, but when we had gotten to the end of the
trail, a beautiful waterfall, (down below, the trail), an unleashed dog came growlingly
charging up the many steps to try to attack us, despite it’s owner calling it from below.
Having seen it coming, we took off quickly back down the trail and I kept Knowing
that we were protected. I kept holding to the thought that nothing could harm us.
After it’s chasing us for quite a while, in looking back, I realized the dog had given up
trying for a confrontation and was going back in the direction of the waterfall and all
      was well.
Experiences like this do prove God’s constant care for us.

  11. Evan thank you for a good definition of error, “Any opinion, belief, or fear that contradicts the reality of God’s allness and goodness is error.” It made me think of the statement in S&H, “The One Mind, God, contains NO mortal opinions.” (p. 399).

  12. Dear Evan, thank you very very much for your today’s comforting SpiritView “to face error fearlessly”. Wow, is that topic important and very needed, what you say to it! I need those healing and inspirational thoughts very much in several instances. However, we can listen to God’s loving guidance and follow it trustingly! The Bible invites us countless times to trust God in every instance, and he will help and heal us!

Thank you Martine for the link to that wonderful article “face the fear down”.
The following sentence from this article touched me specially: “All that is ever going on in the steady unfoldment of the divinely cooperative activity and purpose – divine ideas existing only to express God and bless each other in mutual helpfulness!”
It’s such a loving truth sentence!

O dear, here is such an abundance of wonderful testimonies and helpful comments today. Thank you all very very much – lots and lots of Love to all!♡♡♡

  13. Spiritual Truth neutralizes germs and renders them harmless.

This reminds me of a recent CS Journal article that mentioned rabbits in a laboratory being experimented on. They were all injected with a “bug” but one group did not get any symptoms. Turned out the handler had loved, cuddled and kissed and talked to the group of bunnies she was in charge of. That was the only difference. Nothing can withstand divine Love.
