Let the spiritual be your normal

August 13, 2019 | 17 comments

I had a woman tell me that she was feeling depressed and discouraged, but not to give it much credence because, as she said, “It was normal for her to feel that way.”

If our sense of “normal” is less than ideal, it might be time to revise our concept of “normal!”

From God’s point of view, “normal,” is man’s spiritual state of existence. To feel heavy, depressed, sick and weary is not normal. These are mortal mind lacking views of reality that can be healed and replaced with joy, buoyancy, health and strength.

As a child of God, it’s normal for thought to be in a good place. It’s normal to be inspired, to see the good and to experience the goodness of God on a regular basis.

In the human experience, trials come, challenges appear, and there may be times when the horizon looks dark and prospects dim, but these low moments are temporary. There is always light coming from God to take the darkness away, and answers coming from Mind to solve the problems at hand.

Darkness and suffering are not to become the norm. They are to be overcome, so that the norm of expressing God’s light and joy is one’s regular experience.

So, live a “normal” life today of inspiration, joy and boundless freedom! This is the way God made you, and Christ is within to make it happen.

You have all it takes to live a “normal” life of health, harmony and peace.

  1. Thank you very much Evan, this is a Great, Uplifting, Inspiring, Lift. What a Good way for us to start out the day !!!

  2. Thank you for these wonderful words and this perspective. Sometimes we lose sight of what ‘normal” should be 🙂

  3. Thanks Evan. It’s so encouraging to know that a depressed state of existence is not the “normal state of existence”. God has given us everything abundantly, His mercies and blessings are new every morning, He knows and supplies our every need, He answers even before we call Him. If we are grateful to the loving Father every moment, we shall never be depressed. Gratitude is so essential for a happy state of existence.

Yes trials and tribulations come to all of us. But don’t they take us more closer to God? Mrs Eddy says “Trials are proofs of God’s care. Every trial of our faith in God brings us closer to God.” Trials are in fact blessings in disguise. We become better and happier persons when tried.

Mrs Mary Baker Eddy’s life was full of trials. She never complained. She couldn’t attend school due to her indifferent health. But she wasn’t discouraged or depressed. She lost her most loving husband shortly after marriage, her son was taken away from her, her second husband was unfaithful, for many years she didn’t have a house of her own. But did she accept all this as a normal state of existence? NO. She grew closer and closer to GOD and discovered the laws of God that would heal the sick, raise the dead and reform the sinner. She set a lovely example for all of us.

Because she didn’t waiver in her perfect understanding of God inspite of her trials, she was blessed abundantly and had many homes, many sincere and faithful students, a loving husband and will be remembered eternally for her discovery of the Science of God, Christian Science. We need to follow her example and accept our true state as spiritual, made in the image and likeness of God, so eternally pure, perfect, happy, healthy and free…untouched by error.

  4. Gratitude is key here. You can’t fill the same space with gratitude and depression. Gratitude will just start making you smile and everything else will vanish into it’s native nothingness. 🙂

  5. Thank you! After taking class last year, many “vipers” I had been harboring, came to light. One of which was that i realized upon waking in the morning, one of the first thought was what did i need to worry about today…boy, in just writing that, it seems so dumb, definitely not a “good, inspiring, and true” thought. This negative thought usually involved the golden calf of money as well. What if something appeared on the horizon that i just could not pay for, etc, etc…? Two years ago i lost my job aka paycheck altogether so there you go, the thing i feared most had hit me right between the eyes. Needless to say, the past two years have been a struggle BUT with great CS growth! I am listening to that still, small voice daily and have had some wonderful ideas come to light (God gives us his Spiritual ideas, and in turn they give us daily supplies..). It feels like a goliath but we all know what happened to that dude. I am and will continue to focus on joy in the morning. Love to you and have a brilliant day!

    1. Thank you Melissa for describing what took place, then and now. Been there, done that, and find inspiration now, before even waking by listening to what God is saying at that moment, midnight, 2 :30 am, 5:42 am, at anytime, then I listen, carefully, with expectation of good for what God has in store for me at that moment. Messages pour in effortlessly. Clarifying and carrying forward whatever the message is at the moment, reveals what good there is present at that moment. Leaving behind all the “weight” of mortal thoughts, pouring them into to the sea, leads me away from doubt, fear, lies, the fear of not having enough and simply throws open the window, where he pours in his blessings. Never been disappointed, just been filled with how to thrive and heal.

  6. Thank U, all. Melissa, U reminded me of our hymn
“Joy cometh in the morning”. Normal is ours to claim!

  7. Thanks, Evan and you all for such inspiration! The hymn, “I love thy way way of freedom, Lord…” it’s my “normal!” Be free! Be happy!

  8. This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24 This starts my day off right!

  9. Unity, a church similar to Christian Science, teaches positive thinking and affirmations. The trouble with this is that they rely on the power of mortal mind. Mrs. Eddy warns us about trusting mortal mind to do the work. She says, “Many imagine that the phenomena of physical healing in Christian Science present only a phase of the action of the human mind, which action in some unexplained way results in the cure of disease. On the contrary, Christian Science rationally explains that all other pathological methods are the fruits of human faith in matter,—faith in the workings, not of Spirit, but of the fleshly mind which must yield to Science.”

I can’t be “normal” based on my efforts or affirmations. I can only submit to Divine Mind and let God do the healing! 🙂

  10. What an awesome reminder!! As Mrs. Eddy states “Keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease and death cannot enter”. Once we are filled, then mortal mind can’t tell us otherwise. Thank you Evan for your daily uplifting thoughts!

  11. Yes Evan, thanks a lot!
Through Christian Science teachings and perspective and your SpiriView perspective we are blessed to understand and are aware of our spiritual normalty, so needed!
The last two passages of today`s inspiring SpiritView are so very encouraging and comforting, – thank you very much for it! 🙂

Thank you all for your inspired comments!:)

  12. Thanks Evan for this today. I reminds me we visited the Obstetrician because of my wife was pregnant with our first child, He check her, and the unborn baby, and said all was “normal”.

He then said… “you can’t get better than normal”. I love this concept. As with God, We can’t be better than “Normal”.

  13. Thank you Evan I really needed to read this today as I’ve become so despondent over selling my home. Will work on being more receptive to the good that God supplies us with every day.
Love your posts and look forward to receiving the daily inspiration they supply us with. Thank you.
