Life goes so much better when we learn how to work with our neighbor rather than fight with them. Love makes it possible.
We live in a universe of one Mind, a Mind of Love, that gives everyone common ground on which to come together as one, hold hands, see eye to eye about important issues and work out mutually agreeable arrangements.
This oneness of Mind seems distant and absent at times when humans stand on opposite sides of a pressing issue. However, the underlying fact of one Mind still remains in place to bridge that gap and find a path to unity.
The first place to start finding these bridges and walking across them is with our own thoughts and actions. Unselfed love finds a path forward.
The Bible reminds us, “Live in harmony with each other” (Romans 12:16, NLT). The Message translation reads, “Get along with each other; don’t be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody” (Romans 12:16, MSG).
Be the first one to see how the one Mind of Love can bring harmony to the community you live in. Take the first step. Prove the presence of the one Mind of Love that enables everyone to live in harmony. Be the healer that makes a positive difference.
I see this as beginning with ourselves, our families and our neighbours and neighbourhood.
If we can maintain peace and harmony here, it helps us in our lives further afield, and in our
prayers for all mankind. It is living the golden rule of humbly and lovingly doing unto others as we would have them do unto us, and of being merciful, just and pure.
Hymns 179 says it:
Lovr one another, word of revelation;
Love frees from errors thrall, Love is liberation.
Love’s way the Master trod,
He that loves shall walk with God.
Love is that royal way ……

Picture 1. I have a very elderly neighbor who carries herself superior over others, criticizing and insulting and being two-faced among us. She claims to be a Christian Scientist yet she judges harshly other Christian Scientists.
Picture 2. I have a very elderly neighbor who is a devout Christian Scientist. She is always generous with the offerings of her bountiful vegetable garden. She is always ready to help in many ways. She happily lives the practice of radical reliance on God and it shows in her daily Life.
Picture 1 is the Adam dream. Who or what am I experiencing when in her presence, if only in my thought of her?
Picture 2 is God’s perfect image and likeness.
Lately, I’ve been becoming aware of the way I experience being in the company of others, even in my own thought.
A few days ago, I took a friend in her car, to the grocery store. As we were headed back, she asked me, actually she demanded I make a U-turn when suddenly the low gasoline alert sounded.
At the pump, she sat there in the passenger seat barking orders at me at every step of the pumping process as if I’d never pumped gas before. She then began screaming for me to cancel the transaction. I was becoming angry at the demeaning way she was treating me, but I continued pumping without reacting to her. I thought “God, help me!” and then I turned my head and across the street, growing heartily along the highway was the most beautiful, vibrant yellow daffodils. The verse from Matthew 6:28 …Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: I laughed out loud as the mesmerism of feeling degraded and attacked and undermined by a mortal disappeared immediately. I finished pumping the gas, (without spinning…out of control!) got back into the driver’s seat, and calmly handed her the receipt, which she scrutinized saying not one word, not even offering an apology. She sat quietly during the entire drive back to her house.
I could have even taken offense at that, but I chose peace by not allowing error to use me as it’s pawn. I could have chosen to see her as an awful person.
Mary Baker Eddy teaches us in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 337), “Material personality is not realism; it is not the reflection or likeness of Spirit, the perfect God.”
I am becoming acutely aware of the pitfalls of seeing a human personality rather than God’s man. I ask myself in situations like this, or in traffic, Is it God in that car seated beside you, or driving the car in front of you, or is it error leading you down this road? Where will eather one take you?
This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson (for August 17–23, 2026) is titled “Mind”. It focuses on turning away from a limited material viewpoint and letting divine Mind transform your thoughts, which naturally touches on aligning human consciousness with God rather than mortal or material beliefs.
I share that experience as an example of how seeing God’s man, rather than an erring mortal man changes the material picture and offers peace, a clearer understanding, and creates healing.

I am ever so grateful for the lessons Life offers. After all, as practitioners, we must practice. It is far lovelier to see my brothers and sisters as good and perfect and turn away from error’s suggestion that they could be anything other than pure Love. Aren’t we all the offspring and heirs of Love? Let’s all practice seeing Truth and heal the world. One thought at a time.
Our leader says “Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease and death cannot enter them. It is plain that nothing can be added to a mind already full. There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness”.
I’ve lost many opportunities in life as a result of taking things “personally”. That is actually a very selfish way to live and it robs us of the bounty of our birthright as Spiritual beings.

ourselves, as always being kind and compassionate and loving. Sometimes
we get so upset with mortal mind … we may strike out at another to try to
waken them to what “they” are doing that we don’t approve of, but like
Right Thinker’s approach, (above), we need to see everyone in the light of
harmony and peace. We don’t know what they may be going through and
usually ones who Seem the most angry, need the most Love. The photo
above of the joined hands corresponds so well with today’s topic.
