Never cut off from God’s help

July 12, 2019 | 34 comments

I’ve had people tell me that they felt cut-off from God’s help because they sought medical means. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

God’s help is always present! It’s like oxygen in the air. We walk around on the face of the earth and breathe oxygen 24/7 without thinking about it, and benefit from its presence. It’s always there. However, we need to keep breathing to benefit!

So, likewise, when seeking a medical option, don’t quit “breathing” in the truth about your eternal spiritual relationship with God. The truth that heals is always present to help.

It is true, that seeking spiritual means for healing is an opposite approach to seeking material means, however, no matter how deep one gets into a materialistic way of thinking, Christ is still present to take one by their mental hand and lead the way out to Spirit.

You can’t get away from Spirit! Spirit is everywhere, all the time, and in all ways. Spirit is as close as your thoughts.

Mortal mind may turn a deaf ear to Spirit for a period, but Truth will eventually holler so loud saying, “God has what you’re looking for!”, that the deafness will snap, and God’s voice of healing truth heard.

God is speaking to you! You are not alone. You have not left God behind. God goes before you, is with you, and holds you in Her arms. You are always free to seek God’s help and benefit from it. Don’t stop “breathing” truth. Inhale it liberally and keep growing in your understanding of spiritual reality that brings real healing your way, no matter what type of medical situation you are dealing with. God always has the final say.

    1. ThanK you! As always your posts are inspiring and include topics that need to be addressed! Very grateful.

  1. Thank you for posting this subject,
It is so reassuring. I know for sure that there is NO condensation coming from God. I wish some Practitioners would express
more compassion in this regard. Thank you
for your genuine love towards your
    fellowman.

  2. For many reasons, thank you for sharing this perspective, Evan. So glad Cammie put your blog on my radar!

  3. Perhaps a solution may be found in Miscellaneous Writings, The Way by Mary Baker Eddy; “The present stage of progress in Christian Science presents two opposite aspects, — a full-orbed promise, and a gaunt want. The need, however, is not of the letter, but the spirit.
Less teaching and good healing is to-day the acme of “well done;” a healing that is not guesswork, — chronic recovery ebbing and flowing, — but instantaneous cure.  This absolute demonstration of Science must be revived.” No one will seek material means when Divine Science is demonstrated with scientific certainty. In the Spirit of Truth.

  4. Thank you so much, Evan. If you replace the word Medical in this little essay with Other it is just as valid for any situation which would make you feel cut off from God even though S/He is closer to you than anything mortal mind could suggest.

    1. Thank you Evan, very inspring article, really hits the spot!
Loren, putting “other” in place of “medical” is indeed helpful, mortal mind can be really sneaky!

  5. Thank you , Evan….
And I especially like the last statement you gave, Kenny. “No one will seek material means when Divine Science is demonstrated with scientific certainty in the Spirit of Truth.”
We seem to need better healing work…quicker,..instantaneous…but we know that God never fails….always present!!!

  6. I think it’s easy for Christian Scientists who don’t take medicine to perhaps sometimes feel superior to those of us who do take medicine, like me. But God loves us equally, and God heals us equally. God doesn’t say, “Oh, you’re taking a pill, I guess I won’t be Truth for you.” God’s Truth always heals, no matter how difficult my mortal thought might make it for Him sometimes! 🙂

I play piano, and I recently saw Elton John in concert. He plays a lot better than I do! 🙂 That doesn’t mean that playing piano at my level is somehow worthless, and I should only play piano if I’m as good as Elton John all the time.

I’m a student of Christian Science who uses doctors and medicine because that’s the level I play at now. I can see what better Scientists are capable of doing, and I plan to continue to practice and study and reach that level. It might not happen in this material phase of existence. But Christ Jesus is my “Elton John” of healing, who shows me what’s possible and keeps me inspired as I fumble along with my halting, but sincere, performance of Rocket Man! 🙂

    1. Good for you! We just have to keep practicing what we know — and can do — and strive for a deeper understanding that reveals our true nature that has NEVER been interrupted. But, discouragement and comparison gets us nowhere!!! God leads all who turn to Him — ALWAYS!

    2. It’s interesting that this week’s Bible Lesson is Sacrament. I just took communion at my UCC church last week. It’s a simple ceremony. The bread and wine remind us that Christ Jesus is present with us. He’s present with us without the bread and wine, but the sacrament helps me see that from my current plane of reference.

This week, I plan to go to a Christian Science church. I love the way Mrs. Eddy sets up communion. We’ll kneel in the presence of Christ Jesus. This time, there won’t be any physical bread and wine, just the spiritual communion–but it’s the same Christ Jesus. In this case, I won’t need physical elements.

I don’t think pills cause healing–but I do think they can work like a sacrament. They can serve as reminders of God’s healing Truth adapted to my current plane of reference. As I grow spiritually, I will one day be able to let go of the pill and simply kneel in the presence of God’s truth.

    3. Elton John and Mozart turned out to be pretty good pianists but took the same principles of music in different directions to different audiences. Both inspired others to carve out their own path. One of my favorite Truth teachers was a practicing medical doctor and her contribution to true wisdom and understanding not only served as the so-called “text book” for one of the largest scientific Christianity organizations but helped many traditional Christian teachers and ministers as well. I am grateful for the wonderful love that created crutches and wheelchairs to help us move about, for chemists who were inspired by love and sought to ease pain, for Doctors Without Borders” .. for car mechanics and dentists and every other child/idea of God. Medicine used with divine wisdom and understanding is good. Accepting another’s judgement may not be so.

    4. I don’t take medicine, don’t feel superior to anyone, and am a devoted Christian Scientist. And I’m not opposed to taking medicine if it seems necessary to get me back on track. Just wanted you to know that there are countless practicing Christian Scientists that would never judge anyone for being on their unique journey with God like we all are. Love to you.

  7. Thanks so much, Evan, for this very helpful message and to everyone who has added their thoughts. This is just what I needed this morning.

  8. Many years ago I came out of shock in a hospital to find my husband in a coma, my 3-year-old son in traction in the children’s ward, and my toddler daughter in someone’s home. When my mother had arrived at the hospital, about 1700 miles from home, they were giving me sedatives to keep me quiet. She asked if she could calm me down without the use of drugs as we were students of Christian Science. One of the doctors on the case said to go right ahead. His roommate in college had been a Christian Scientist and he had seen many good results. They never had to use drugs on me again, and I was moved from the ICU sooner than expected. When my husband and I were transferred to a larger hospital six weeks later, the doctors told my mom and me that my husband’s condition was still critical, but they had seen some remarkable things happen. They told us that he had come through double pneumonia and convulsions which would have killed an ordinary man, and he had a brain injury and still came through. They never thought he would make it through the first night. We were told his eye had been destroyed, however. The neurosurgeon at the new hospital told my mom that the skull fracture had not sealed in the last six weeks, and so wouldn’t seal now, and because of it caused spinal meningitis. My mom never told me until about four weeks later when the doctor informed her that the fracture had sealed and the spinal meningitis was gone. His eye, through no medical treatment, was also improving. My ankle had to be rebroken and set with a pin and screw. Every day the nurse would ask me if I needed pain medication I said, “no.”. I had no pain whatsoever! We were then transported back to California and my husband was placed in another hospital. There we were told that he would see out of both eyes perfectly. Other healings also occurred. My husband did pass on after six months, but there were so many outstanding proofs of God’s care along the way. I seemed to struggle for awhile about why the complete healing didn’t come, but I knew and know that he never went through any of it in reality, and is perfect and whole as God’s image and likeness. I apologize for the length of this. I don’t think I’ve ever told the whole story at once. I had never been around doctors or the medical thought, but learned that they are working at the best level they know and are doing it out of love for mankind. I’ve been blessed.

  9. Thank you dear Evan, for this freeing SpiritView.
Specially I love the last paragraph . Wonderful, God always has the final say!
How near you bring us to God , and God to us. We can rely on Him/Her, as our Father-Mother God is always with us, and we are living and moving and breathing and have our whole being in our good God.
Thank you Evan for healthy, spiritual food for the weekend!

    1. Thank you, Trista & Rhonda. I, too, don’t use medicine, but don’t feel “superior.” I’m using “help” in the form of a cane and walker. I had a practitioner work with me over a year and overcame so much. I’m grateful and continue to progress. I play bridge so hear “medical stories” constantly, but my friends respect my choice, but don’t understand it. As the old ad says, I’ve come a long way, Baby. MBE says, God will take me ALL the way. Happy to hear Evan each day.
      Gratitude, Gratitude, Gratitude.

  10. Oh boy Evan thank you for today’s blog post. It addresses some common misconceptions about medicine and medical treatment both inside and outside the Christian Science movement.

I love thinking about “Truth holler[ing] so loud saying, ‘God has what you’re looking for!'”And knowing here or hereafter all will hear the call and accept it’s truth. We can’t help but to hear it at some point. It’s our very nature to express/reflect God, good.

  11. No doubt an important topic to be had.
I am praying that we as children of the One
Creator, One Mind come to accept and respect each
others’ journey. After all we are all we, (christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddists, along with other fates) are truly seeking for that Christlike love, the truth. In my humble opinion I think there is no religion that can own and say that they’ve got it! We all have it. The truth is a universal truth God owns it . And God has no favouritism .He/She wants us to express it all. I think all religions /denominations are trying to share what they know, unfortunately mortal mind messes the good intentions by creating labels and divisions amongst us.
Not to mention the human egos!
This is what saddens me deeply,

Thank you Evan for making this open discussion and sharing available for all.
    God bless .

  12. I can feel the power of Spirit moving across the waters of mortal mind, and the transformation of thought occurring/sharing by all. Thanks Evan.
