Pay attention to Truth and stay healthy

December 8, 2020 | 25 comments

With the media constantly parading images of disease and suffering before the public consciousness, it’s critical for the preservation of health to keep those images out of thought. It’s wiser to pay attention to the spiritual truth about man, rather than letting demoralized concepts of mortal mind take over.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “It is better to prevent disease from forming in mortal mind afterwards to appear on the body; but to do this requires attention” (Science and Health, p. 198).

It “requires attention,” she says, to prevent disease from forming in thought.

What kind of attention? Spiritual attention.

The consciousness filled with the spiritual truth about man has no room for disease to enter, just as a room filled with light is in no danger of experiencing darkness.

Pay attention to what you want to experience. Pay attention to the truth about man as God’s healthy child.
Welcome into consciousness only images of health and truth coming from divine Mind.

Images of disease are descriptions of error and find no abiding place in a consciousness of Truth. You do not have to give them any heed or attention. Banish them.

Pay attention to Truth and stay healthy!

  1. The words “pay attention” takes me back to being at school. The teacher notices when someone’s thoughts are wandering and calls on him to pay attention to his lesson. So Christ is our teacher, and
will call us back to attend to our spiritual lessons if we let our thoughts stray. So if we can be sure that the Christ is with us and will alert us to stay focussed on the spiritual reality of everyone and everything that God has made. It is the Christ that enables us to do this, and not personal effort or human will power – thank goodness!!

    1. Maggie, this is a few days later and you may not see it, but I had to thank you for emphasizing that it is not personal effort or human will power that we need in order to stay focused in spiritual reality. It is the power of Truth, God that reminds us and brings our thought to where it needs to be.

Many people, myself included, seem to get stuck and overwhelmed at times, thinking “we” as separate minds and separate individuals have to struggle humanly to make things happen. Yes, thank goodness God will “alert us” and keep our attention on the Real and True — perfect God, perfect man/woman, perfect universe.

  2. Thank you, Evan, for the thought that you cannot add darkness to a room filled with light.
It reminds me of hymn 39:
“The light of Truth to us display,
    That we may know and choose Thy way;
Plant holy joy in every heart,
That we from Thee may ne’er depart.”

  3. Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously. Science and Health p 392 :24
    Thank you Evan.

  4. Pay spiritual attention! Now that’s a fresh thought to consider. This is a wonderful wake up article, Evan. Thank you.:-)

  5. The photo says it all. Thank you. If the media one is watching is telling lies, repeating over and over, don’t watch. Seek the truth (Truth) elsewhere, where Mind/Principle is supreme and doesn’t tempt one to believe in something that we don’t want to believe in. Don’t let media control one’s thinking. Mrs. Eddy wrote, “The time for thinkers has come”. Media that parrots over and over what They want you to believe is not necessarily what the Truth is. Don’t be fooled or misled. “Thou Love that guards the nestling’s faltering flight! Keep Thou my child on upward wing tonight”. (Hymn 210 – Mother’s Evening Prayer”)

  6. Thank you Evan for the loving reminder. It’s a rousing wake-up call to ask myself: What images am I “streaming”/allowing to be “live streamed” into consciousness? Am I keeping thought filled with Christly thoughts — the true idea voicing good?

  7. I have a little wall plaque that has been handed down to me it has on it.
    “What Our Leader Says.”
Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that
sin, disease, and death cannot enter them. It is plain that nothing can be added to the mind
already full. There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill
in a mind filled with goodness. Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you
are completely shielded from the attacks of error every sort. And not only yourselves
are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited. Mary Baker Eddy”
I try to study this when I am studying the Bible Lesson it has been so helpful. In my studies
of this quote I always stopped at the word impervious so finally one day I looked it up and found this ” not allowing entrance or passage; impenetrable a coat impervious
    to rain”.
I took to like the word impenetrable. ” YES IMPENETRABLE ARMOR”, this helped me so much.
Thank you to Evan and this wonderful SpiritView family.
Thank you all and have a Blessed Holiday Season!

    1. Such a powerful admonition you shared, Renis. Thank you. There’s also a sweet children’s book “Filled up full” published by the CSPS. Today I will be alert and accept only thoughts from God. I’m filled up full with thoughts from Principle, Life, Truth, Love, Soul, Mind and Spirit!! Amen.

      1. Yes, Cathryn; I love that book and all the others like it.
I read that book to all my Children when they
were growing up in Sunday School I still have it. It’s in
A box. Worn and taped together now awaiting a child to read it to, maybe that child will be me, or maybe I will pass it on to a neighbors child. You have given me food for thought. Awesome ! Love and hugs Renis

  8. Our Bible Syidy is. studying the prophecy of Jesus coming.
In Isaiah the phrase Fear not appears multi times.
    Such a comfort and assurance
It is somtjingO To notice in these days before Christmas

  9. Thank you, Evan, for this focus on Truth. Thanks to all for sharing such powerful truths. I’m focusing everyday on that beam of Truth which displaces the darkness of the night.:
    A glorious day is dawning,
    And o’er the waking earth
    The heralds of the morning
    Are springing into birth.
    In dark and hidden places
    There shines the blessed light;
    The beam of Truth displaces,
    The darkness of the night”
    Hymn # 2, 1st verse
    Christian Science Hymnal

  11. Thank each of you with your “angel messages”..so appreciated and desired to hold on to as my son and grandson have been “diagnosed with covid” and I’ve been asked to self quarantine for 10 days. I thought ..,when told to quarantine,.. that it’s an Advent time to study and seek the healing and loving power of the Christ….of God …and each of you..beginning with Evan’s message will open doors to keeping my “attention” on Truth.

  12. when my son asks me about what I study it comes up that all begins in thought. Stay porter to your thought;’ only you allow what can come in.
