Prayer that helps during elections

March 15, 2016 | 16 comments

There is vigorous campaigning for the next President of the USA going on in my country right now, and a lot of heated opinions about which candidates are qualified and which are not. So, I wrote a short piece for my local newspaper addressing how prayer can settle thought and help voters make sound decisions.

  1. thank you, dear Evan, for your very inspiring article in your local paper. It is healing, uplifting and freeing from all that we see and hear in the news here in Europe about what is going on in your country during the present election campaigns. While I read your article, I really became calm what opens the minds for Gods loving and healing thoughts. Thank you!

  2. This is spot on! I’ve been guilty of contributing to the mental atmosphere in a not so healthy way as I react with dismay, and yes anger. Thank you for this practical approach to praying about the elections here in America. This is a good country with good people and we need a good President. May he/she emerge and may we pray steadfastly for the government to be upon His shoulders. This article will go to my friends on both sides of the aisle. It’s just perfect.

  3. Thank you, Evan, for your courage to address this issue by writing a prayer-based article for your local newspaper! We here in Sandpoint, ID, just had an incident in which our local “alternative newspaper” printed an article that was directly adverse to spiritual healing, and esp. to Christian Science. The small group of Christian Scientists in our Community responded by emailing each other and cautioning each other not to react with anger, but to contact our Committee on Publication in Boise, ID so that she could write a Letter to the Editor to correct the inaccuracies and misrepresentations of C.S. that were in the article. And, or course, we are all supporting this forthcoming Letter to the Editor through our metaphysical prayers in Christian Science. There is so much we can do, as right-thinking Christians and Christian Scientists, to uplift the political climate in the U.S. right now! Again, thank you for writing that healing article for your newspaper!

  4. Thank you, Evan, for such a well worded and unifying share to your local paper. I’m certain it has helped it’s readers to see the election in a whole new light. It is also nice to remember who our True Leader is and whose guidance we can all look up to and find comfort in, especially in these seemingly divisive times

  5. What a beautiful expression of good that we can all live by during this challenging time. Thank you for being bold and reminding us of the power of prayer, and the comfort we receive by letting go and letting God!

  6. Spot on Evan. Whenever I get a little fearful about current events political or otherwise, I have to get back to what is real, Spirit – God is the true creator of our environment and he is all good, all the time. We are not set free by fear, nor are we set free from our responsibility to reflect that which we know to be true – that man in God image is free to reflect divine intelligence – Mind- through out life – experience – operating under the principle of Truth and Love.

  7. I gave it great prayerful thought about those running for President on the Republican side and still came away with voting for Hilary. Let’s for a moment side with Donald Trump instead of looking at him as an evil man and see him as an expression of God, Good, wanting to do the best for his country. Finally he accomplishes his campaign and becomes President of the USA.
In order for him to accomplish what he wants, my prayer leads me to believe that he has to go against every thing that our Declaration of Independance with its Bill of Rights and amendments is all about setting a president for future Presidents who are not as spiritually motivated thus completely destroying freedom as we know it and stating the stage for a future civil war worse than the one we had in the ladder part of the 1880’s. Thus I come back to my first inclination of of voting for Hillary.

  8. Thanks Evan for the thoughtful and helpful article. (=

And let’s all respect each other and remember Mrs. Eddy’s “A Rule for Motives and Acts”, especially:

“The members of this Church should daily watch and pray to be delivered from all evil, from prophesying, judging, condemning, counseling, influencing or being influenced erroneously.”

  9. Thank you, Evan. I have been working to see all the candidates as children of God reflecting all the good that God possesses. I appreciate your voicing a peaceful approach to a time of controversy.

  10. Thanks Evan. In the UK we have a referendum coming up about wether to stay in the EU. There is plenty of debate going on about that and a great deal of fear expressed by both factions of the possible consequences. I have been praying about it and the other day I gained a great sense of peace about the outcome when I realised that the bottom line is that God is responsible for our prosperity and security and that is true what ever the outcome.

  11. Evan, I appreciate your sharing of the article you wrote for your local newspaper and for all of the comments submitted thus far. Mark Sappenfield had an article recently in The Christian Science Monitor online, suggesting choosing ‘all of the above’ which was very interesting. I responded to him that after watching many of the debates, I was tempted to choose ‘none of the above’ and that the candidate least likely to get nominated appealed to me the most. I am relying on prayer knowing that Divine Mind is in control ALWAYS and EVERYWHERE – including the Oval Office of the White House!

  12. Sometimes we tend to judge candidates because of what the TV and News Stations drum up petty material just to broad cast. I do not think the current President has maintained what the country needs and follows his own views which have put the USA in a delectate position.
Is Boldness needed to realign by putting our country back on tract? May our Spiritual Guidance, direct us in our selection.

  13. Perfect words to guide us once again in Truht, and Love. Thank you so much fo rour loving message of clairty in Truth. God is indeed in control of all right activity. Trust the Eternal! Thank you for heightened awareness in Love leading. Merri

  14. No matter where we live in the world this article in your local newspaper is stock full of loving, calm, peaceful ideas for us all to contemplate, and I thank you Evan.
