Protect yourself from the coronavirus

March 6, 2020 | 38 comments

The media is sounding cries of alarm about the spread of the coronavirus around the world. Many feel helpless about what to do. But there is something one can do to protect themselves from contagion. A spiritually inspired state of mind can render a virus harmless and protect one’s health from infection.

I love the promise of protection found in the 91st Psalm:

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

This I declare about the LORD:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.

For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease….

Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.

Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday….

If you make the LORD your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,

no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your home.

For he will order his angels
to protect you wherever you go.
New Living Translation

The “Most High,” is divine Mind. The “shelter of the Most High,” is spiritual consciousness.

One of the most effective steps you can take to protect yourself from the coronavirus, is to keep your thought in a healthy place—in the omnipresence and omnipotence of God—where disease is no threat.

  1. What a true blessing this is — a beautiful version of the 91st Psalm to keep in thought! Thank You!

  2. Thank you Evan for this loving embrace from God.
I loved the comforting assurances in this week’s Lesson on Man:
“Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” Psalm 90: 1 & 2
“God fashions all things, after His own likeness.” S&H 516:9
“Spirit and its formations are the only realities of being.” S&H 264:20
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” II Tim 1:7

  3. The word ‘corona’ is from the Latin and means ‘crown’, a symbol of power and authority. We acknowledge only one power and authority- God – any other claimant is a liar. Remove the ‘corona’ from ‘virus’ and the latter is revealed as a liar, a reinvention of Eden’s serpent, still nothing claiming to be something.

  4. I prepared wed readings last wed in Feb to address this and enjoy reviewing them daily with fresh inspiration. All that exists manifests God’s universal love.

  5. Thank you all for the good thoughts.
I appreciate the New Living Translation of the 91st Psalms, and the definition of “corona”.

Webster’s digital dictionary also has a definition of “virus” as:
“ 2 : something that poisons the mind or soul
the force of this virus of prejudice
    — V. S. Waters”
    Amen

    1. Yes, it sure seems that way …prejudice and intolerance which causes fear and doubt…(and we are ALL intolerant of someone! )
But I feel also that fear is at the root of it. However, the Bible tells us that God was not in the earthquake or the wind” and God is not in the fear either so it can have no cause and effect in TRUTH. Billions of people are afraid of the consequences of actions by certain SELF CALLED “LEADERS” in the world but this is a LIE we MUST DENY.
WE are the real leaders…the people who lead with the right thought, the people who step up front mentally, FAR ahead of backward ways of thinking, ready to neutralise the evil that seems to be around. I’m the worst culprit of being intolerant of certain presidents in a few countries, but we MUST first be intolerant of evil and refuse to let it stand as an entity.

  6. Thank you Evan, and all. Very strengthening and comforting. A way to focus prayer for ourselves and for the world. Love that version of the 91st. Psalm.

    1. Thank you, Kirsten – that is a very good article – and thank you Evan for this post and for everyone’s contributions. The lying illusion has no chance of continuing to deceive anyone.

  7. Science and Health 151:26-28, “All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal.” While praying with this truth a couple of days ago, these thoughts unfolded:
If there is a virus, it must be a spiritual idea. It must be harmless. It’s every action is blessing. If there is any other belief about it, that must be imagination. If it’s imagination then it has no substance or intelligence. If it has no substance or intelligence, then it can’t communicate.

    1. Ty. All is well & I’m so grateful for each & everyone who shares. It’s so helpful to meet each day armed with the Truth. Error tries to raise its hydra head, but no serpent or dragon can oppose divine Mind. Love, Love, Love…

    2. Cat, may I add “or be communicable” to the end? Communicable defined as “(of a disease) able to be transmitted from one sufferer to another; contagious or infectious.” Thanks so much for sharing your inspiration.(=

    3. WOOOAHHH that is a GREAT inspiration Cat!!! I love that and hope you dont mind if I read that out at a testimony meeting! Thankyou for that revelation of truth!

  8. In her article “Love your Enemies” in Miscellaneous Writings, Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “Hate no one; for hatred is a plague-spot that spreads its virus and kills at last.” I am mentally putting the “crown of Love” around every child, man, and woman on the planet. “Perfect love casteth out fear.” Divine Love fills all space. It is our atmosphere, our entire consciousness, our substance, the one and only Life, all power. There is no room in Love for hatred or fear. Love is all there is!

  9. Some 50 years ago my brother was diagnosed with a contagious disease (that our practitioner said of the disease “who’s name shall never be said”) gave us the 91st Psalm to read allowed and be a constant prayer. My brother was healed within hours and the power of that Psalm has stayed with me through thick and thin.

  10. Psalm 121:7-8 The Message (MSG)
God guards you from every evil,
    he guards your very life.
He guards you when you leave and when you return,
he guards you now, he guards you always.

  11. Thank you all so much for the very helpful prayers!

Our CS branch church participates in an annual community event sponsored by 12 diverse churches and faith groups who sponsor outstanding area high school students for their peacemaking initiatives and community/global service projects. The Student Peace Awards are supported by community leaders, including a local Congressional representative, and a keynote speaker each year who is known for international peacemaking work. It is a large diverse gathering, as we have a very diverse student population here , families from many cultures and languages.

Because of Coronovirus fears, at our event last Sunday, we (church volunteers )were asked by the event manager to bring hand sanitizers and to instruct folks not to shake hands.
Prayers have been ongoing, and on the day of the event, I had a moment to speak with the event manager who was applying hand sanitizer and sharing it with a couple of others. She was going over her notes to introduce speakers, when it came to me to tell her about a sign I had seen in a candle and soap store (where sanitizers were sold out),, that said, “Spread love, not germs.” I immediately thought, and shared with her, that we could “Spread LOVE, not FEAR.” She and the other volunteer smiled, and agreed. These faith-based colleagues were glad to have the reference to the safety of the 91st Psalm, too. And coincidentally, no one coughed or sniffled at the 2-hour event.

So grateful for the “panoply of Love” spread over all!

  12. Thank you Evan for your inspiration. On Wednesday our readings were on :Contagion and Man’s God given immunity”. It truly was a treatment for our community and the world!
In my prayers I came across a little booklet that I have had for years…God’s Law of Adjustment by Adam Dickey.
“infinite Mind is the Ruler of the universe……..no condition or circumstance can arise whereby a mistake can find lodgment in God’s plan, then we have the complete assurance that God is capable of adjusting everything as it should be.”
I am grateful for all these truths and especially to you Evan for these blogs!!

  13. A local news station starts their daily coverage of this in a segment titled “Facts without Fear.” I am so appreciative of their recognition of the need to report updates without the screaming headlines and sensationalist narrative.
I don’t watch it, but I know it starts out very low key.
    Thanks Evan.

  14. Thank you Evan, for addressing this for us. What a healing promise the 91st Psalm is. And thank you Kristen for the wonderful article.,“There is no disease”, So helpful!!! And as Linda says “Thank God for Christian Science”!!!! The whole world, every church and pulpit, every news program, broadcasting FEAR, unknowingly, will benefit from those who Know the Truth and are prayerfully helping to make mankind Free!❤️Thank you to Jesus who taught and healed through divine Mind, God’s Truth, and to Mary Baker Eddy who explained this Truth to mankind through her book, Science and Health, with Key to the Scriptures. I have a very Grateful heart today and can feel the peace and love God gives to all He created. God’s Truth will set the captives free!!
    Love to all, CayDe

  15. I meant coverage of the virus, not the 91st Psalm or Christian Science. Wouldn’t that be great?!

  16. Thanks for the article and all comments
Such a treat from over indulged news
Search of corona very interesting as well
The 91 st Psalm is such a comfort and promise
    These blogs so helpful

  17. Thank you so much for this reassurance. Someone said “worry is ingratitude in advance.” I look forward to days ahead when I put myself and others in God’s care. Any threat is not bigger than God. . So I keep studying Chriatian Science where peace prevails.

  18. Thank you all for helpful comments. You might like to read, “The Virus Myth,” by William Henry Stringer in the 1971 Christian Science Sentinel. Very enlightening. “God saw everything that He had made and behold, it was very good.” Keeping our thought in a healthy, happy, loving place defends each one from the seeming intrusion of any evil influence. The 91st Ps. is a beauty.

  19. Thank you Evan, for this very helpful SpiritView.
I also love the translazion of corona into Crown. One can explain spiritually the word Crown as the highst and noblest meaning, which is God, the all in all. Thank you, Jenny for your comment about the Crown!

This morning studying the lesson “Man” I noticed that it is just what we need for the seeming world problem together with the 91st Psalm. That is actually enough, if we work and pray with these.
I also thank Kirsten for the article “There is no desease”. It’s all so helpful in all your comments which express so much Love – thank you all !

  20. I look forward to your blog every day Evan. This 91st Psalm is a wonderful translation. Thank you to all who commented.

  21. Thank you Evan and for all the wonderful and helpful comments and links.
This statement from Mrs. Eddy in Miscellaneous Writings p. 229 is also very comforting:
“A calm, Christian state of mind is a better preventive of contagion than a drug, or than any other possible sanative method; and the ‘perfect Love’ that ‘casteth our fear’ is a sure defense.”

  22. thank you for this….ive never listened to so much about one disease in my whole life and I really need to be so much more alert! I printed this and will read it on my subway rides!
