Have you ever prayed and been inspired by the truth you were seeing, but not yet seen any outward healing effect from your prayer? If so, follow the “Realize…until” rule, to bring about the outward change.
Mary Baker Eddy gives us the “Realize…until” rule in her statement, “Realize the presence of health and the fact of harmonious being, until the body corresponds with the normal conditions of health and harmony” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 412).
We are to REALIZE the presence of health UNTIL we see it manifest. We can’t give up too early on the realizing part!
We see what we realize. If we haven’t seen it yet, we’re still working on the realizing part.
Keep going. Keep realizing! Keep growing in your understanding of spiritual reality and realize it fully. The freedom you seek will come!
Realize spiritual truth until you see it fully manifest. It’s a rule for success in spiritual healing.
c an you make yourself realize……?
Sarah, you can LET yourself realize.

An analogy for me has been when I have a laptop issue at work. I can sit and struggle all day long, with my limited IT knowledge, or I can reach out to a higher intelligence (IT support 🙂 ) to resolve the issue. To do this, I need to go to a link and click on a button that says “allows control” so IT can resolve the issue. Instead of struggling with a problem, I can start by allowing/letting God/Mind to influence thought. In an interview with Kathy Chicoine (“How does Prayer work”), she said, “Whenever I pray, I start with God, I don’t start with the problem. I love to get myself out of my prayers. You know: “This is what I need. This is what I want. Hurry up, God! I’ve got ’til Tuesday”—just outlining. Just recognize that when you turn to God, we’re really looking for what He has already established. Prayer brings us into harmony with the divine plan. Prayer allows us to see what God has already established for us. And it has to be good. The more I get Kathy out of the way when I pray, the more clearly I can understand and hear what God is saying to me. It’s as simple as knowing that what God creates, He maintains. He’s the architect, He’s the builder, He’s the creator. He is the source of everything that man is.”
beautiful analogy, J. Thanks
Thank you for this easy to relate analogy. ❤️
Wonderful analogy, Thanks.
Interesting – will reflect on that during the day.
Thanks Evan
I loved an illustration made by Laurence Doyle in regard to “…reflecting on…”.He said in one of his talks, God is the origin, we are the “I will reflect on that…”. He also gave the analogy of when one might suggest to the sun that there is a shadow over here. The sun “takes a look” as it were, and of course the shadow disappears.
Yes! Until and Forever!
Thank you Evan!
Thank you Evan!
Thank you very much, Evan! Yes, it is very neccessary to continue realizing spiritual Truth until I see it fully manifest and never never give up! The freedom I seek will come!
Oh dear Evan I am very thankful for your steady assurance of the divine Reality that healing surely comes!♡
Fsther-Mothet help each and every one of us to realize our identity, which can be only spiritual. Give us the understanding to reject error of every kind.
Sounds good. Now please define what is means to REALIZE something.
Webster defines “realize” as to bring into concrete existence.
Some ideas that came to me this morning:
The Bible says, ” Be still and know that I am God.”
Jesus said, ” ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”
Mary Baker Eddy says, ” Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,– neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints, If suffering from a belief in sickness , you will find yourself suddenly well.”
She also says, “It is the province of spiritual sense to govern man.”

Thank you SO much for this article!
Excellent article, thank you for sharing it Anne!
Thank you, Evan. I remember hearing a story about a Sunday school class. The teacher shared the above quote with her students and asked them what they thought it meant to realize something. One little child piped up and said, “We must look through our “Real Eyes” to see what is true.:)) I loved that and always likened it to having that correct view that Jesus always had when confronted with the aggressive beliefs of sin, sickness or death. Thanks for sharing this with us today and reminding me to do the best I can to look through The “Real Eyes” – the lens of Christ:))
Thank you Malissa!
What a beautiful child able to feel, penetrate through
The material layers to realize the Truth of the situation with the « real eyes « it is why children have instinctively their spiritual qualities already build inside their bring.
REAL-I
We need to stay with what is real.
Real. I, God.
Not if of God, not real. We need to see what is True.
When a daughter was very young, and finally understood something, she would say, I really eyes,
or I see.
Meaning she saw/understood, what was true.
And of course you all know this.
Thanks Even, and everyone.
Thank you, Evan. The Cedar Metaphysical notes on the Bible lesson last week had lots of helpful explanations about realizing (“bringing into concrete existence”–thx Jamie!) life as purely spiritual based on Jesus’ practice and proofs, and Mrs. Eddy’s too of course. You can read it here:

Oh Thank You, Evan for pointing out that word “until!” I have long loved the importance of “realize” in CS practice – but hadn’t added her instruction to keep it up “until” for myself. Never give up! because “We see what we realize!”
I first saw how realizing the FACTS of spiritual being was a way to heal when I read the account of a CS student in Mrs. Eddy’s day from “Elizabeth Earl Jones, CSB, a Biographical Sketch” assembled by her Association of Students. When she was only 17 (in the 1890’s) she had been a semi-invalid for years, and was staying at a plantation in South Carolina, when a visitor told them about Christian Science healings. Elizabeth contacted a practitioner, Mrs. Mims in Atlanta, and was completely healed in a few treatments. She sent for Science and Health, and here’s what happened when the book arrived. “Miss Jones had read only 14 pages in SH when she healed Mrs. Hazzard of the flu. She read to her page 14:1-16 (now found on page 120:7-24) and said, ‘If this is true, it will work.’ They both tried the best they could to REALIZE the truth of what they read, and in less than 5 minutes Mrs. Hazzard exclaimed joyously, ‘I am perfectly well.”“Together they began a systematic study of SH, and many friends on nearby plantations asked them for treatment and were healed. Miss Jones wrote of this, ‘I had been reading about 2 weeks when people began coming to me for healing. I did not know how to give a treatment, but I knew it was the book and what was in the book that healed me, — so this is the way I treated: I would read aloud to the patient, and pause a moment to REALIZE what I had read, — and often I would ask the patient to do so with me. Then I would read aloud some more, and pause and say, ‘now let us try to REALIZE this,’ – and so on, until I felt sure there was nothing to heal because God is All-in-all. Nearly everyone was healed at once. Some of the cases mortal mind would have called very serious. One was a man who had been almost totally paralyzed for 3 years. …Nearly everyone around there had been healed before I got to page 409, ‘Mental Treatment illustrated’ (now found on page 410). That was a red-letter day at Beneventum when we found out how to give a treatment in the right way!”
Finding this sparked my study of the word “realize” to better understand how these instantaneous healings happened. Some definitions I found were:
To impress on the mind as a reality; to believe, consider or treat as real.
to bring into actual existence and possession; to render tangible and effective
To comprehend completely and correctly; understand clearly
To bring into reality /make real/ bring to fruition / to make actual
To become conscious and aware of; discern, perceive, accept, admit
To recognize; be cognizant or aware of a FACT
To give reality or substance to; acknowledge the existence and validity of
And I loved finding this definition:
To be fully aware or cognizant or conscious of – as confirmed in what Mrs. Eddy told Calvin Hill about her morning prayer: (WKMBE , Expanded Ed., Vol I p. 353)
“The first thing I do in the morning when I awake is to declare I shall have no other mind before divine Mind, and become fully conscious of this, and adhere to it throughout the entire day; then the evil cannot touch me.”
And lastly, I love the sentence that precedes the quote dear Evan gave us, which I believe defines “realizing” as to “mentally insist” on a spiritually scientific fact of being – and keep it up “until!”
SH 412:23
“Mentally insist that harmony is the fact, and that sickness is a temporal dream. Realize the presence of health and the fact of harmonious being, until the body corresponds with the normal conditions of health and harmony.”
Thank you for your help!
Thank you, Evan and all for your thoughts. When I looked up the root word of reality-this weeks Bible lesson topic , “reality” in relation to the word “realize” this is what it said:
The word real dates back to the 14th century, meaning “true” or “existing.” Reality and realize are related terms. By native rules of English grammar, the superlative form of real is realest, or the “most real” thing or idea.
So I can apply that s to the word realize-to see spiritual reality.
MBE says we don’t have to seek or petition or ask that health, something outside or apart from our spiritual being, be given or sent or provided to us. Like all spiritual qualities (love, kindness, peace, wholeness, harmony, etc.) we embrace, include and express health as an integral aspect of our innate being. As God’s idea, we reflect health, and spiritual sense reveals it, uncovers it, manifests it, displays it and yes, our prayer is to realize it. We don’t invent it, manufacture it, wish for it or see it as material sense deceptively declares. Page 120: “Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind; nor can the material senses bear reliable testimony on the subject of health.”) This is one of my favorite passages and one of the most radical. The material body doesn’t tell us if we are healthy! It is reflected in a citation from yesterday’s Lesson, equally astonishing: (page 210: “What is termed matter, being unintelligent, cannot say, “I suffer, I die, I am sick, or I am well.” (Wow. Matter can’t even tell us “I am well.”) The “presence of health” is our heritage. Thank you God.
❤️
A WONDERFUL reminder!
Thanks Evan!
Thanks a LOT today, Evan, and thanks for all these comments. I find them very helpful indeed.
REALIZE:
*To impress on the mind as a reality; to believe, consider or treat as real
*To bring home to one’s own case or experience; to consider as one’s own; to feel in all its force
*To bring into actual existence and possession; to render tangible or effective.
(Webster’s 1928 Dictionary)
Thank you Linda for posting this wonderful and inspiring account of the experience of Elizabeth Earl Jones, and for sharing the results of your study of the word realize.
As Mary Baker Eddy admonishes, let us all wake in the morning mentally insisting that we reflect the Divine harmony fully, -and we can take pauses throughout the day to Realize perfect health and freedom. Evan, your powerful conviction of the effectiveness of this prayerful realization of health is a great encouragement to stay the course when healing appears to be slow.
Substitute the word feel instead of realize. To me realize is to Feel. Mrs Eddy says and I quote:
LET us FEEL the divine energy of Spirit bringing us in to newness of life and recognizing no material power as able to destroy. Let us rejoice that we are subject to the divine powers that be.
To Feel is to Know.
I work with the word Let is her writings.
Linda in NJ ends with one of Mrs. Eddys clear instructions. Thank you so much to all of you. Here is another one. ” When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and his idea. Allow nothing but his likeness to abide in your thought. LET neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious – as Life eternally is – can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not.”
And that’s the Truth.

When reading Evan’s blog, it came to me that Mary Baker Eddy was suggesting we see with our “REAL -EYES”. Our lesson this week is titled: Reality. A wonderful definition awaits us all.
A lot to read and listen to this morning. A lot to grasp and comprehend
and didn’t want to miss anything, all the way to the end. ery interesting,
all the comments and articles. Thank you all.
“Don’t believe everything you hear:
Real eyes,
Realize,
Real Lies”
– Tupac Shakur
Wow Carol…nice poem!
Thank you Evan. Thank you all, for your wonderful and inspiring comments. We need to realise what we are made of, and this will effectively lead us to resolve a challenge.
Thank you Evan, and thank you all! What a wonderful breakfast of spiritual Reality.
Love and hugs to all.
ll Corinthians 6: 2 behold
… behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of salvation.
WOW! This entire blog and all of the comments and articles
referenced are truly amazing and helpful. Thanks so much to ALL.
In Science and Health, page 306 beginning with line 16, it says (paraphrasing )Jacob struggled with the sense of material life and spiritual life until an angel came unto him. That was the realization , but Jacob did not let go of the angel until his nature was transformed. I think that is what Evan ,and Mrs. Eddy , is telling us.
I used to teach math concepts to children, and they would “ get it”, but when they had a written problem to solve, a practical application, they didn’t understand it quite so well. We can’t stop short. When a glimmer of enlightenment comes to us we must keep with it until we can put it into practice. Thank you, Evan , for reminding us to stay with our enlightened sense until the needed transformation takes place.
Kim, you are so right! Demonstration is always the way of Truth’s proof or REALity!
This is one of the most inspiring and helpful topics. So many wonderful ideas to work with. But what especially resonated with me is the idea of Real eyes, because to realise is all about what we are seeing as real, or true. Thank you Evan and everyone for such a beautiful and powerful message today.❤️
What a wonderful Spirit View! Thank you Evan and everyone…so much inspiration from all the comments!
Wow! Is this useful and timely! Thank you, Evan
Several people mentioned the word LET. It’s a useful word when you feel you can’t do something “all on your own” (of course, we’re never ACTUALLY doing anything on our own, but sometimes we forget that & feel as if we are). It’s those times I remind myself to LET. I like acronyms & for me LET is:
L eave
E everything
T o God
