Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you — not because they are nice, but because you are.

  1. Thank you so much for this wonderful adage! I have been dealing with someone who can be mean or rude. I was working with the idea that “sweet” is powerful, because A Rule for Motives and Acts reminds us that we reflect the “sweet” amenities of Love.

The other day when thinking about the experiences and events of this world being at the point of our thought and handled there, I had an angel message that gave me such peace in the face of the troubling events on the news. It was that “The Accuser” is all that is wrong with the news. Evil, devilish suggestion, personal sense, is accusing man of being a bomber, a hater…….rude. Not possible to God’s reflection! I am so grateful to Christ Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy for showing us how to lift these lies right off of God’s eternally innocent man.

  2. Yes, thank you Evan – and thank you, too, JM for the above comment. I was just listening to the 1pm news here in the UK and became quite exercised about the “tax credit question” saying to my husband “well I would certainly walk in protest at what is I feel such an unfair imposition”.

Then I read this post. WHOA.

The protest I need to make is mental: 1) God good is guiding guarding governing ALL 2) Divine Love supplies each and every one of its cherished children every moment with abundance expressed endlessly in supply, creativity, joy, ability, energy, inspiration etc etc then I listened to the Daily Lift which mentions these lines from Hymn 71: “See, the streams of living waters, Springing from eternal Love. Well supply thy sons and daughters, And all fear of want remove. ” Lesson learned. Thank you Father-Mother Love.

  3. I don’t know who to give this credit to, but wanted to share as it ties in so beautifully with what Evan and you all have shared:

I see myself as God’s own child
    A perfect child of light.
I see my brother man as well
    As perfect in Love’s sight.
    Then to complete my prayer
I see him seeing me aright.
I see him seeing me seeing him
    As perfect in God’s sight.

  4. A very good reminder to be always good, even to the ones who are rude, unkind or indifferent to you. We never know their story. Perhaps they are troubled or challenged or had a bad day, or misunderstood your good intentions. Else why would anyone not respond to your smile and goodness?? We need to give the benefit of doubt, instead of jumping to conclusions or rash judging anyone.
Moreover, one gets such a good feeling when one is good and kind. You receive so much peace and calm by being pleasant and noble. Moreover, we become worthy of Gods blessings too since God wants us to love everyone irrespective of what response we get. Where love is God is.
I remember having been instructed in a training program thus…Whether your good morning greeting is returned or not, you need to wish daily and one day you will certainly receive a morning greeting in return. Your goodness should not depend on another’s response. That’s being truly good.
Thanks so much Evan for the daily inspirations. Deeply grateful, God bless you abundantly, always.
