Shed fetters and excel

March 11, 2024 | 28 comments

Sooner or later we shall learn that the fetters of man’s finite capacity are forged by the illusion that he lives in body instead of in Soul, in matter instead of in Spirit.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 223

Soul gives you the energy, strength, grace, poise, wisdom, coordination, intelligence, understanding, and health you need to be everything that God has created you to be.

To excel, look to your source for your help. Look to Soul!

Soul is God. Soul is infinite, eternal, unlimited, unfettered.

If one looks to matter for help, one finds limits, constraints, lack, dead ends, impossibilities.

If one looks to Soul, they find possibilities, open doors, solutions, and abilities.

Shed fetters by shedding material sense.

Live fetterless. Excel with Soul.

  1. I’m always so grateful for getting God’s blessings through your messages,Evan. Thank you for being so loving and caring.

  2. If you look to Soul you find substance the real source of all that we need.
The human experience is often comprised with chasing after that which is so temporal..
Riches, fame, power, control, and recognition are fleeting mortal hopes.
God as the only true source give us value, purpose, and solid substance..then we are satisfied, fulfilled, and complete.

    1. Thank you kindly Edie for the wonderful poem and the Daily Lift. Both reference Mrs. Eddy’s strong statement about the power of a being conscious of spiritual Light for a single moment, and how the body (anything material) can then utter no complaints.

If the poem does completely open for everyone, it was posted in full on SV March 1, 2024 (thank you J) and certainly worth reading again and again.

In Evan’s post that day he cites the very same quote from Mrs. Eddy. This quote has been coming to me from different directions, which means I need to study it and let it’s reality dawn on me more deeply. Thanks to all and Love.

    2. Love, love, LOVE this healing thought, Edie, as it covers any sense of the unknown to bring blessings to the here and now. Your contribution covers health, healing and wholeness of each one of us. Thank you..

  3. Hymn 64

From sense to Soul my pathway lies before me,
    From mist and shadow into Truth’s clear day;
The dawn of all things real is breaking o’er me,
My heart is singing: I have found the way.

I reach Mind’s open door, and at its portal
    I know that where I stand is holy ground;
I feel the calm and joy of things immortal,
The loveliness of Love is all around.

The way leads upward and its goal draws nearer,
    Thought soars enraptured, fetterless and free;
The vision infinite to me grows clearer,
I touch the fringes of eternity.

    Beautiful words
    Wonderful message today Evan.
    Thank you❣️

    1. I love that hymn, BarbaraUK, and the messages on Soul today! So Beautiful!

I came upon this, which to me, describes Soul/God/caring by J Lynn,
“I was walking deep in the woods and I saw how the sunlight reached
down between the trees to touch the tiny plants. We are loved more than
      we will ever know”.

This, to me, is the essence of Soul, the heart of God’s Love for us.

    2. Barbara thank you for sharing this hymn which made me feel freer.

I was interested in a better understanding of “fetters” and found some definitions:
—Fetters are literally ankles chains that were used to restrict the movement of prisoners, the symbolic meaning is anything that would “hinder or impede in moving, progressing, or acting,” fetter suggests a restraining so severe that freedom to move or progress is almost lost.

That’s pretty severe restriction, that’s just how mortal mind tries to operate, tempting us to feel small and confined/constrained, stuck. Thank goodness we have Truth and Soul to turn to at any moment to be reminded of what is real and Infinite – One Mind, one creation, all good.

      1. Dear Angel and Rose….yes it is an unforgettable hymn and immediately makes me want to sing it!
Love your comments too. Soul( God ) is so freeing and to quote from Deut last week ..’the eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.’..helps shake those fetters of material sense. B.x

        1. Thank you Barbara. I love the quote ! It reminds me of such unconditional
love that is brought home to our everlasting arms of Love, that are always
around, beneath, above. : ) … a perfect refuge from any harm.
Here’s one that coincides with the sweet photo,
“There is nothing in a caterpillar [or cocoon] that tells you it’s going to be
          a butterfly” – R. Buckminister Fuller
How True and beautiful – Love unfolds it’s lovely purpose .. step by step
in divine Love’s harmony and always present support.

    3. Thank you very much Barbara for this freeing, healing, comforting hymn!
Thanks so very much, Evan for the loving and also freeing advice to shake off the fetters!
Thank you dearly for your healing and comforting and teaching SpiritView Blog!!!

  4. Mrs. Eddy writes of the radiance of Soul,
“It is Love [Soul – both synonyms of God] which paints the petal
with myriad hues, glances in the warm sunbeam, arches the cloud
with the bow of beauty, blazons the night with starry gems, and covers
earth with loveliness” S&H pg 247 and …
“The sunlight glints from the church-dome, glances into the prison-cell,
glides into the sick-chamber, brightens the flower, beautifies the landscape,
    blesses the earth”. (pg. 516)
    All wonderful expressions of Soul.

    1. Thank you J. This is a perfect explanation of how to address any so called mortal limitation using our understanding of Christian Science.
I’ve saved it for many re-reads no doubt.B.x

    2. Thank you dear J for this article, I am glad that it is “long” because it’s full of truth that I can savor slowly. I’m only half way through but wanted to pop back onto SV to let you know that already it has uplifted me very much, including a reference to p. 14 in S&H from the chapter on Prayer, which I re-read and then continued reading more of that chapter and was loving revisiting the ideas there. And also on that page, again was the quote we discussed above that Edie mentioned in the poem and Daily Lift she shared, ” Become conscious for a single moment that Life and Intelligence are purely spiritual…..” As I had said earlier, this quote is reaching out to me over and over. Thank you for being so in tune.

  5. What a blessing to wake up and have this beautiful,Soul-filled SpiritView to brighten and heal my day! Thank you Evan for opening up this magnificent conversation and thoughtful responses!
I’m so grateful to have read (out loud several times) the poem Edie included. Thank you to John Q; the beloved hymn Barbara UK includes; for Angel and Rose NY,
And I know that will be more helpful additions to return to later today.
I feel freer and lighter already!
This is the place where Soul, “the heart of God’s love for us” shines to brighten our lives, every day!
    Thank you
    Love

    1. Annie, your remark of feeling “freer and lighter already” inspires a butterfly to mind,
fluttering by, sailing along with the uplift of thought, buoyant and refreshed with such
expressive Soul… and as Robert Frost attuned to:
“Butterflies … flowers that fly and all but sing”.
      Heavenly and hid with Christ.

  6. All inharmony has its roots in the wrong idea mostly based upon fear, the fear of lack, incompetence or some other form that there can be some other substitute for an all knowing, all loving, all powerful, all acting God, Soul. It is because God is that we are. God to be God must be all good for God cannot be opposed to that purpose. A fountain cannot bring forth sweet water and bitter.
