Stand guard against malpractice

April 4, 2023 | 32 comments

Christian Scientists, be a law to yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or when awake.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 442

Malpractice is any type of affirmation that denies the reality of God’s allness and goodness.

Statements, mental impressions, or suggestions of evil are malpractice.

“You will get sick, I hate you, You are a bad person, Danger is looming on the horizon, Something bad is about to happen,” are a few examples of malpractice.

Any type of heaviness in thought, depression, anxiety, fear, dread, fretting, worry, and their kin, are symptoms of malpractice at work.

“Be wise as serpents” (Matthew 10:16), Jesus counseled his students. To stay healthy and happy, it’s imperative that we daily pray for protection against all types of malpractice.

One way to stay safe, is to keep thought so filled with God’s omnipresence and omnipotence that evil suggestions can’t sneak in the mental door. A room filled with light knows no darkness. A consciousness filled with spiritual light, knows no darkness.

Do yourself a favor. Stand guard against all types of malpractice. Know God’s power and presence. Accept nothing less. Live free and thrive.

  1. We lock our doors to prevent unwanted intruders: so we should lock out unwanted intrusive thoughts. Thank you for this timely reminder Evan

  2. What a gift to know God, divine Love, fills all space.
What protection ensues from knowing God is the only source of thought or experience..
There is no conflict or mortal opinion when God is our all and our only.

    1. Yes John I agree it is wonderful to acknowledge firmly that only God, divine Love, fills ALL space. That is (as Evan says), the room filled with Light that knows no darkness. Evan thank you for such a clear definition of what mental malpractice includes so we can see it and cast it down at the first hint of it.

Thanks Shelagh for that perfect hymn 134, to “break through the mesmerism” that can, at times, seem real.

And thanks to all who wished me well for my birthday on yesterday’s SV (and love to LInda, Cheshire, UK who also had a birthday yesterday). Every day is a new birth-day in God as we are filled with new spiritual insights. Love to you all!

  3. Thank you Evan for.this timely reminder! So easy to fall under the “spell” of misdirection.

A go to Hymn for me, is 134, it starts:

“I look to Thee in every need,
    And never look in vain
I feel Thy touch, eternal Love,
    And all is well again”

Such a lovely Hymn to share as well, when friends feel mesmerised ♡

  4. We must also make sure that we are not believing that malpractice has any power at all –
it doesn’t really exist. We are only protecting ourselves against believing lies. We need to understand it as just lying suggestions and not something that has any power over us. By seeing everyone as God is seeing them, as the reflection of the divine Mind who can only think good and loving thoughts towards us, even when it seems to be otherwise, and keeping our thoughts there with God, divine Love, we are protected from being fooled by so called mortal mind’s suggestions.

    1. Thank you for this post. It seems like we talk about a.m. as if it had power to harm when we know there is the only One power, God. False suggestions are unwanted and powerless to cause harm if we stop them at the door of thought. Keeping our thinking filled with only Good allows no space for any suggestions of evil. Jesus would not allow evil suggestions on the mountain and it had no power to push him. He never gave evil beliefs a thought. Thank you again ♥️

    2. Thank you for your comments, Maggie. I especially loved: “We must also make sure that we are not believing that malpractice has any power at all –
it doesn’t really exist. We are only protecting ourselves against believing lies.” IT is so easy to let it take a foothold and seem like something real we have to get rid of.

Thank you all for your comments and Evan for this timely and ever helpful reminder. I love your podcast as well. Very helpful, The Daily Lift is also part of the Sentinel Watch for this week and I found that very helpful in thinking about a couple of passing-on’s this week. This share link should allow you to hear Katie talk with Jenny Sawyer.

  5. It is so easy to fall into the human concept of life being somewhat less than with the presence of God, good, spiritual truth that all is of God’s making. We have work to do everyday, for ourselves and others to remember that which is true in principle and practice. Thank you Evan for this reminder.

    1. Thank you for this: “One way to stay safe, is to keep thought so filled with God’s omnipresence and omnipotence that evil suggestions can’t sneak in the mental door. A room filled with light knows no darkness. A consciousness filled with spiritual light, knows no darkness.”

I have been praying about a situation yesterday at my son’s high school. There was a phone call (untraceable) that stated there was an active intruder (sneaking in the door as you write) Cops came and students were ushered to emergency situation. There was nothing-no sign of intruder, thankfully. There are a lot of students/parents and teachers in fear mode-afraid to come back to school today. I’ve been praying to see that the kingdom of heaven is at hand, and of God’s omnipotence and omnipresence and so many other helpful thoughts. These lines you write, Evan, are helpful for this specific situation. Rather than an emergency…. We are emerging to see God’s reality. Thank you

      1. Dear Christi, it sounds like your thought is going in exactly the right direction. Your prayers about God’s power and presence are so helpful to dissolve the fears of all involved, and they are embraced in Love. I support you in this, I loved your statement, “Rather than an emergency – we are emerging to see God’s reality.” Very wise.

    1. Thank you J! I listened to this podcast multiple times when it first came out and have listened to it a few times since then too. So I will enjoy listening to it again. It actually alerted me to defend myself against aggressive mental suggestion when I injured my foot one day. Based on what I learned from Evan’s talk on AM, I was alert when the injury happened to realize it was nothing in matter that needed to be corrected, but I just needed to drive out of thought the aggressive suggestion that God’s man (me and everyone else) could be injured. And drive it out I did by “clinging steadfastly” to my understanding of God and the truth that God causes only good. It took about 2 days, but during that time I didn’t give in to the suggestion I’d been injured and just kept doing whatever I normally would do even though it meant I had to limp when doing it. The second morning after the injury I popped out of bed walking normally and it was about 5 minutes before I even remembered I’d been limping severely for the past 2 days. This is one of those healings I think about often, and again I attribute it to what I learned from this podcast. So “Thanks Evan” for sharing what you did during this podcast.

After this podcast came out, a partial transcript of the podcast was published in the Journal and you can access that via the link below. But some things were left out, so I’d recommend listening to the podcast using the link J provided above.

      1. Thank you Evan, and commenters!

What a wonderful demonstration RH, thank you so much for sharing it! And also much appreciation for the transcript link to Evan’s talk.

  6. Thank you Evan. This is a good reminder. It makes us judge wisely. One must see good in every situation no matter what mortal mind suggestions are claiming as real Science and Health.102:30-31 Mankind must learn that evil is not power. Its so called despotism is but a phase of nothingness.

  7. I am so very grateful for this topic today! Exactly what I needed. There seems
to be such a battle of good versus evil going on in the world today. Those who
have always stood up for what is right seem to be persecuted in such extreme
unfairness. I know it is just mortal “emotions”, but I sometimes feel such a
profound sadness in this state of unjust betrayal of what the caring-for-others
persons are standing up against … evil. The burden seems to weigh so heavy
when coming from this point of view.

On the other side is such an incredible Love, divine Love, overflowing with
such wonderful intensity, where serenity’s calm is the whispering
rainbow of hope, blossoming with each bright new day …
the dawn of a world brimming with happiness, caring, contentment, peace,
Soul’s Truth and Love in Spirit. That is so endearing and appreciated and
cherished. I definitely feel that here. Thank you, Evan, for bringing us all
together for this spiritual view of things.

May you all have a good day.

  8. A porter to your thoughts. Nothing happens when anything unlike Love seems to intrude. You have to choose to believe it. It takes steadfastness but when you choose not to. Amazing

  9. I am so glad that this is being covered. AS this is poised out it need to be handled every day.
    thank you so much.

  10. So important! Thanks Evan for today’s & every day’s SV . My withholding of blogging no indication of my deep appreciation.

  11. I so appreciate Evan’s Spirit View and enjoy the comments that follow. All are helpful and show that good and loving and spiritual thinkers abound.
    Thank you, everyone.

  12. Thank you so much for this Evan! My teacher told us to read Animal Magnetism Unmasked a lot. Your article was perfect and very understandable and helpful. More on this topic please Thank you Cindy
