Stay on your spiritual watch

November 6, 2018 | 15 comments

What are you watching for today? The good, the bad, or whatever happens to come your way?

Wise people make wise choices, and wise choices lead to good results.

If you want to stay healthy and well, be sure to make wise choices about what you watch with your thought.

For instance, if a friend starts outlining her latest disease in graphic detail, you have the option to reject what you are hearing about her and replace it with her spiritual reality. You don’t have to mentally watch the descriptions of disease parade through your consciousness. Or, if the media reports a major conflict broiling between politicians in the political power center of your country, you do not have to let anger and resentment take over your perspective. You can choose to pray for peace and harmony in the capitol.

As we go through a day, a multitude of options appear before us to engage our attention and demand thought-taking. We can choose which scenarios to accept and dwell on, and which to reject. We have God-given dominion to think spiritual, to see spiritual reality and to keep our thought inspired with spiritual truth.

Stay on your spiritual watch today, and keep your thought in a good place! It’s the healthy and wise way to live.

“And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure” Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 497.

  1. YES! Eyes on God, the one Mind, the only healer. Science and Health defines intelligence as omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience. (469) . The only Mind governing, present, knowing, known..The Mind of Love. The Mind of all.

  2. Wonderful reminder, as always, Evan “ we promise to watch & pray…”. Mrs Eddy demanded we do the absolute best we can and that demand is our best effort each day…it is possible and will provide constant alertness to our duty to our community, to our fellow men, our own family and ourselves. Another blessed day…

  3. Perfect affirmation coinciding with a thought I had as I did my Lesson this morning– these suggestions could be ‘golden images’ which we refuse to bow to. As always, thank you for your supportive and inspirational messages.

  4. thank you Evan, and Annie–love that idea about “golden images”; So easy to get caught up in the news of the day, but that idea is really helpful. Thanks!

  5. When I think of Love
    I think of God
    When I think of goodness
    I think of God
    When I see beauty
    I see God
    When I think with Mind
    I know God… directly
    Then I see you
    as you truly are….
    Magnificent, whole, Loved
    beyond measure, perfect
    and beauty manifest
    beyond compare…
    When I think of you
    I see God’s reflection…

  6. A Global Lesson for today, especially:

“One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfills the Scripture, ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself;’ annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry,–whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.”

(Science and health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p.340)

I ask myself: What, specifically, need I do to honor the One God, One Mind?

  7. What an important reminder today– to “stay on watch” — to be alert to all we think, see, participate in and hold in thought. I loved Maximo’s message especially this: “When I think with Mind I know God… directly Then I see you as you truly are…..When I think of you I see God’s reflection…” So vitally important that we see ourselves and others as we truly are–God’s reflection. So helpful to stick to the truth of who we really are and include everyone we see, think about and know. We are each His-Her image and likeness–whole and governed only by our loving Father-Mother God. Thanks for sharing everyone!

  8. The quote by Mrs. Eddy you have at the end of your message Evan (& 6th Tenet of The Mother Church) has always been a daily prayer for me. I do sometimes replace “we’ with “I’. Powerful prayer for benefit of all mankind.

  9. Thanks, Evan and all. Yes, it is vital for us to watch what we are allowing into thought, in this day and age particularly, with TV and social media throwing false images at us constantly, it is highly important. What just came to me was Hymn 290 where the refrain says: “Rouse ye, rouse ye, face the foe, Rise to conquer death and sin; On with Christ to victory go, O side with God and win!”

  10. Someone quoted Mrs. Eddy saying…”More silent prayer and watching is the need.”

Thank you everyone for the good thoughts.
