Stick to Truth until the error yields

June 5, 2020 | 21 comments

“Stick to the truth of being in contradistinction to the error that life, substance, or intelligence can be in matter. Plead with an honest conviction of truth and a clear perception of the unchanging, unerring, and certain effect of divine Science. Then, if your fidelity is half equal to the truth of your plea, you will heal the sick.”

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 418

You’re always sticking to something in thought, whether it’s error or truth. Be sure to stick to Truth and not to error!

Argue on the side you wish to win. It brings the best results and the healing you seek.

  1. Thank you Evan for this profound quote today. It is a ‘ go to ‘ thought changer for me personally. I am so grateful for Christian Science, it’s teachings and the on going Truths I read daily here on Spirit View.
‘ For those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings!’….wonderful start to my day today. ❣️

  2. Thanks Evan, a good prompt for us to obey. In the dictionary ” stick” can mean “something used to force compliance”. Let us use the stick of mental might to force our thought to come in line with the Truth. So we can experience Reality. We are so blessed. Thanks everyone.

  3. Teacher said. To “just stick with it”. Never give up or give in to errir.. . So TRUE. I’m a fighter citing the good fight thank u God my dear mother Margaret Berry and Jean Hebenstreit.

    1. Gwen, I can” hear” Jean Hebenstreit speaking of Dr. Tutt, when she worked as his secretary. Jean could hear Dr. Tutt, with his door shut in his office, shouting down the error (or fear) that needed to be destroyed, as nothingness. (The word “vehemently” comes to mind.)

“If a crisis occurs in your treatment, you must treat the patient less for the disease, and more for the mental disturbance or fermentation, and subdue the symptoms by removing the belief that this chemicalization produces pain or disease. Insist vehemently on the great fact which covers the whole ground, that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside him.” This is just part of the paragraph under the marginal heading How to treat a crisis. “Calm the excitement sometimes induced by chemicalization…” Christian Science Practice, p. 421; 11-24 ,MB Eddy.

Daily we are witnessing unparalled protests because thoughts of racism must change, be destroyed, and that is being brought to the surface, then, chemicalization, must occur.

‘The Christian Scientist has enlisted to lessen evil, disease, and death; …”
Jean would say: “You have enlisted, you weren’t drafted. Let’s get busy. We have work to do.”

I used to think for so long, that I was too young in my study of Christian Science to take class instruction less than two years after taking up the study. But working as a Christian Science nurse required class instruction. I am learning that I must trust more God’s leading, be grateful.

Yes, Evan, we must stick to the truth until the error yields. Amen. As the theme of this year’s Annual meeting is about loyalty to God, to our leader, and to mankind. It is our duty to bless.

  4. DON’T

Yesterday I heard the word consent
This morning the word came into thought with the
    interplay of, con-sent

Consent. Give permission, agree, allow, accept, sanction, approve, yield to, submit to

Con. Persuade someone to believe something by
use of deception, trick, fraud, scam
Do we get conned, get taken into untruths, live
    with condelivered suggestions

Con…delivered, should send up a red flag
We need to be aware of being conned, be aware
of what is sent to thought

    Don’t consent to anything con-sent

    1. “You have enlisted, you weren’t drafted!”
I love that quote. Thank you for today’s topic & good commentary. Each day is a blessing from God…

    1. Thanks, Curran, for the link, but I dont subscribe to jsh so cdnt read it all. I just listened to 2 of “Charlie” Carr’s lectures from the awesome website christiansciencect.org .The one titled “Renewal” spoke to me in these opportunity-filled times. Renewal of joy and freedom to all!

  5. Beautiful picture, I love it. It supports the thought very well. And thank you Curran for sharing the article.

  6. Thanks Brian for opening the Link for us .
Thank you Evan for that picture, it looks as if one is in God’s safe protection and care. I love that too!
To stick to Truth until the error yields, also confidence is needed. I find it comforting to know, that God provides us with this valuable quality, for which I am very grateful. Thank you Evan for daily teaching and uplifting us!

  7. Thank you, Melissa Baker, for the comments about “Consent.” One of the definitions you listed is “allow.” And then in the definition you gave for “Con,” the word that stands out to me is “deception.”
So I asked myself, “How often to I allow myself to be deceived by mortal mind/animal magnetism? How often do I hear a suggestion and “allow” it to stand and occupy my thought?”
And then I thought about what Jo shared about “Dr. Tutt, with his door shut in his office, shouting down the error (or fear) that needed to be destroyed, as nothingness (vehemently).”
My take-away today is a reminder to myself to never allow error to deceive me for one second!
“Insist vehemently on the great fact which covers the whole ground, that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside Him.” (Science & Health pg. 421:15)
And that sounds a lot like the passage that Eric quoted: “Stick to the truth of being in contradistinction to the error…”
Thank you to everyone who contributed today.

  8. Loved Evan’s blog and all the helpful, inspiring comments. Yes! Vehement is good! Try saying the Scientific Statement of Being vehemently…so powerful. Thank you all. (=

    1. Thank you Evan for another helpful and strong spiritual reminder. You put it so eloquently into words what I felt and put into practice this morning when waves of fear wanted to creep in; that our city would be faced violent unrest and on a personal note certain obligations for the day loomed like a heavy burden, Turning to God, Truth wholeheartedly and trusting the Devine, reminded by a Bible verse; “Set yourself, stand ye still and see the salvation of the Lord, the battle is not yours but His. See the Salvation of the Lord. Peace returned to my heart. The day unfolded harmoniously. The evening news report revealed the protest march was peaceful. Gratitude filled my thought.
