Take steps toward goodness

January 19, 2023 | 24 comments

What steps are you taking today, and where are they leading you? Is it a path you want to go down?

Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “Every step towards goodness is a departure from materiality, and is a tendency towards God, Spirit”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 213).

We can experience more of God’s goodness by choosing to walk with God, by taking steps that keep us inspired, spiritually minded, reflecting love, patient, forgiving, understanding, thoughtful, and Truth-centered.

Your steps are always leading somewhere. Keep them headed in a spiritually progressive direction! Walk with Truth, and enjoy each step of the way.

  1. Your picture reminded me of this poem. There was no name of the author.
AlwaYs great picture with each SpiritView.
SpiritView carries us each time it is sent.
Thanks Evan, Kathy and SpiritView friends.

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”

He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”

    1. I have always loved this very well-known poem but have never seen the name of an author. Thank you M for reminding me of it. x

  2. Thank you Evan. The first two lines of hymn 140 are very inspiring.
I walk with love along the way.
And o it is a holy day.
This makes us secure as the day is holy.

  3. That’s amazing! SNOW, how I miss it. all that darn shoveling which I would do in a heartbeat at a specific address only. Ha Ha. But actually my mistake today is thinking I am going up just because heading north, when I am going down instead to a lovely date with…………………

  4. Thank you for writing: “Your steps are always leading somewhere. Keep them headed in a spiritually progressive direction! Walk with Truth, and enjoy each step of the way.”

Thank you for previously posting thoughts I remember to the affect:

You are always trusting something; trust God.

You are always believing something; believe truth.

You are always accepting something; accept truth.

You are always agreeing with something; agree with reality [Spirit, and Its expression.]

You are always following something; follow God and Christ.

When my children were young, once they were able to talk, I would repeatedly tell them, that they are to be disobeying every single moment, as long as what they are disobeying is mortal mind/personal sense and what they are obeying is divine Mind/spiritual sense. They are always to be an influence and role model; make sure it is their highest sense of good, and that that is always improving and blessing. No matter what the circumstances or what other people are thinking or doing, be kind, honest, fair, and responsible. We are not here to impress mortals, but to express the Immortal.

After summer 1993 (when one was seven, another was two, and the other wasn’t born yet, I kept telling them that they are always making decisions; make it a decision, a statement, about what has power in their life and what they’re giving power to— Good, and not mortals trying to have power over others or being disempowered. I later added that everything every moment is a choice; choose love, not fear.

I want to share many examples of my children’s choices that I find charming and inspiring, but I think they would rather have privacy. To keep up the courage when it seems our world is pressuring us to do the opposite of what Evan said, I have beside my bed, a blank book in which I can add examples I learned that day of people making these choices, to live Love, Truth, Principle, persevering in spite of all the persecution and prosecution and violence for that. Biblical heroes and modern day biblical heroism and commitment to obey God, and choose to go where God guides and provides… continue to inspire me to “Go and do likewise.” Footstep by footstep, in the right direction.

  5. Like snow blankets the landscape with such beauty, we, like
individual snowflakes collectively and synergistically combine in
our uniqueness as reflections of God, blending into harmony,
when our pathway is of Spirit and of Truth. That lovely photo
highlights with such inspiration such a peaceful scene.

(Dear Lori M, on yesterday’s comments, you had asked a question and I had suggested you might try the CC tab so you can read the message. Sometimes a bit is lost in the
translation, tho, like spell check sometimes changes words.
I’m not sure if you had seen my response, as it was later.)

  6. From Hymn 457: Cause me to hear Your loving kindness in the morning, Teach me to do Your will O God. Cause me to know the way where I should place my feet, to walk in the pathway of Your love.” (based on Psalm 143:8)

From Psalms 119:105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

If our thought is centered on Truth in God, our feet will naturally go in the right way. Happy stepping to all today!

  7. Thank you very much, Evan! I love your forlast sentence, counting all the divine, God-like qualities we can express with joy! This SpiritView reminded me on the following Bible verses from Phillippians 4, verses 8 + 9:
    8) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever are just,
whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report
if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things,

    9) Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do:
and the God of peace shall be with you.

That is a strong advice of Christ Jesus to his followers! And the beautiful foto up here means to me walking the way to the Christlight! Thank you Evan!

And thank you all for your inspired comments and poems!

  8. This is what I am actually experiencing today: I am walking with God, taking my first sure steps away from extremely painful back wrenching spasms. I am holding mental focus on my unity with God, knowing that as God’s spiritual idea and reflection there is no pain to experience.
How much timely can today’s blog be?

  9. Dear Carol,- The beautiful synergy and unity of Self expression you speak about is so evident in all of the SpiritView comments here. Each entry an original, distinctive expression of the infinite Source of spiritual inspiration we know as divine Love,- all “blending into harmony” to light and propel our individual journeys. Thank you for illuminating this site with your uplifting contributions.

    1. Awww…Thank you so much, Linda, for those kind words.
And like you said, each spiritually-minded entry Does
“light and propel our individual journeys”.

  10. Thanks so much Carol for your helpful suggestion. I just went back to yesterday’s SpiritView and read your comment. I never noticed the CC for close captioning before. I watched the vlog again with this turned on and
it worked beautifully. Now I know what to do in the future when I have a problem hearing. Thanks again!!!

    1. I’m so glad it was helpful to you, Lori! It was such a good vlog,
as are they all, so I’m glad you could see every word of it, altho
some of the words are not quite right…like “tents mamas”,
      instead of “tense moments”. lol
