The Big Story in the world today

April 23, 2020 | 23 comments

If one were to watch the news, one might quickly conclude that the pandemic is the big story happening in the world today. But there is an even bigger story happening behind the scenes that seems to be much less noticed. People are turning to God in prayer and finding peace of mind and enduring health despite what they hear and see in the news.

I think back to Jesus Christ time, when the communities Jesus walked through were filled with dozens, hundreds and thousands of people suffering from all types of diseases and mental calamities. But the big story when Jesus came to town was not the suffering. It was the healing power of God that he demonstrated on behalf of the suffering. In the presence of Christ, public attention was redirected from diseased bodies to salvation from God.

Let’s pray that the same happens today!

Christ is present to help and heal humanity around the world. Christian Science explains how this healing works. Every child of God has spiritual sense to know God’s presence and to be healed by divine Love.

The Big Story doesn’t have to be the pandemic. It can be the peace and health people are finding from turning to God and demonstrating spiritual reality.

What’s your Big Story today?

“Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken” (Psalm 62:5-6, NLT).

  1. I especially like this sentence Evan…”Every child of God has spiritual sense to know God’s presence and to be healed by divine Love.”
We all really have to know this for everyone…it is very hard to see through those “separation thoughts” where we think SOME people have spiritual sense (and even common sense) and SOME do not: SOME react thoughtfully to unforseen events and others act violently…but how can this be true when EVERY SINGLE IONE of us is God’s child?

  2. I love the Bible quote at the end, Evan. We cannot be shaken by mortal mind’s picture when we know we are grounded in God, our rock. So grateful to start each day with SpiritView.

    1. I agree about the quote. “Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.” A stable, inspiring good thought for every day, but particularly good right now.

  3. Very helpful, Evan, with a family situation I’ve been praying about. As a recent lesson pointed out, we all have access to the kingdom of God by Christ Jesus. That door is always open “and no man can shut it.”

  4. What a lovely observation Evan, that though a seemingly big picture looms large of pandemic before the world, a much greater picture has come to the fore of the world reaching out to each other in love, harmony overriding clashes and differences, and a wave of prayer sweeping over the whole world bringing in its wake good health and peace.
Just as centuries ago, in the presence of the Christ disease was destroyed, the same Christ is present today to bring us release from the pandemic and we shall all see the glory of God very soon…because “Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”
Thanks ever so much Evan for uplifting our thoughts daily through “Spirit View”

  5. YES, exactly. I always felt that when I read the Bible Lesson in the morning I was getting the news of the day. The important news. The real news. Everything else that I heard afterwards could be then put into context of the real news: God is supreme, and man is His beloved child, now, always, and forever.

  6. The The Mother Church ‘s Wednesday meeting readings were so helpful last night. Everyone can turn to God for healing. He is right here.

  7. Evan thank you for your daily Spiritview. Great way to start the day!

Evan , thank you for your daily Sprit view. It’s a great way to start the day!

  8. I am so grateful to know, aside from what the various media sources are telling us, there are people of faith all over the world praying for wisdom and direction, hope and healing. I know of prayer watches, prayer circles, weekly and daily calls for prayer through emails and texts, which tells me that this unique time is bringing forth the best from so many who are looking for and exhibiting positive thinking and actions. Our Christian Science church services bring to the world the pure healing truth of the Christ for all to hear and embrace. I am convinced that many are being turned back to God during these days of sheltering in place. We can choose what we watch and listen to for information about what is really going on in God’s universe, and we can choose to spread hope, joy and gratitude, based on our understanding that God has given each of His children dominion over every creeping thing. This includes a creeping virus, creeping fear, creeping insecurity. Jesus has set the example: “Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

  9. i like what d. w. allison (above) says about “the real news”. we get true and accurate news coverage when we turn to the teachings of Christian Science, like our blessed Bible Lesson for example. i recently subscribed to the weekly mail edition of The Christian Science Monitor because i realized the need for me to turn off my TV and turn my thought elsewhere as i pick up a hardcopy of that wonderful newspaper.

    Never
    Ever
    Without
    Soul

    blessings to all!

  10. Thank You, Evan,
For all you do. To seek and find the good in every situation is the only way to go. That to me is loving God with all your heart, mind and soul. The Psalmist declared that even if he lifted up his eyes in hell, Thou [God, good] art [is] there.
Mrs. Eddy found the good in every situation. I love the way she visited many people in her neighborhood and community each day in her horse and buggy, waving to them and not only that, she was seeing the perfect universe and perfect man which healed all that came into the atmosphere of her thought. How wonderful to understand that we all live, move, and have our being in God,good forever. Thank you.

  11. It remines me of the hymn, “I love to tell the story of unseen things above, Of Jesus and his glory, I love to tell the story Because I know ’tis true. It satisfies
my longing As nothing else can do.
This is the really Big Story and has been going thru my thought all day after reading this Spiritview.
    Thank you so much
