Millions of people are hoping a vaccine will end the pandemic and enable business and life to resume as we knew it in the past.
It’s possible that vaccines help put the recent pandemic behind us, but there are regular reports of the shortcomings of vaccines, their limitations, dangers, and unreliability. People vaccinated are still not safe from the virus, we are told. The virus continues to mutate, evolving into ever-more difficult forms to control.
In the long run, one pandemic may end, but another is coming in a matter of years, epidemiologists warn. There is no end to the ever-evolving threat of viruses, material reasoning believes.
However, this is not a reason to despair, but to look higher, for a solution that brings permanent and lasting results.
To stay healthy and strong over the long run, a long run solution is needed.
The ultimate solution for staying healthy, despite viruses, is spiritual mindedness. A consciousness of spiritual truth can neutralize a virus and render it harmless. Jesus Christ proved this, and countless people are proving it today with their prayers.
Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “At a time of contagious disease, Christian Scientists endeavor to rise in consciousness to the true sense of the omnipotence of Life, Truth, and Love, and this great fact in Christian Science realized will stop a contagion” (Miscellany, p. 116).
There is hope for humanity. It’s found in Truth, in an understanding of God’s omnipotence and omnipresence, where viruses become harmless. Go there, and stay safe.
Evan – are you saying that viruses exist, and that their supposed evil effects need to be neutralized? Is it not more correct to understand that in reality material viruses are simply illusions of mortal mind, and therefore have no effects at all, good or bad?

Yes, this is indeed what we need to hear today, all we ever have is this moment and it is always in today!
I remember with fondness, a notice, which the host who worked in the kitchen of a charity I worked for, put up in the seating area; “All Toasties are Free Tomorrow”. Being a charity, revenue from the small amount of catering provided was important. I asked Tommy how he could legitimately make that claim. Tommy said to me, “when is tomorrow Shelagh”? . . . I had a good laugh when it finally dawned on me.
In Miscellaneous Writings, Mrs Eddy says, “God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies. Never ask for tomorrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need in every moment”.
I felt then and still feel now, in a humorous way Tommy was expressing that spiritual provision. Incidentally, from then on, I saw a spiritual depth to Tommy which had hitherto been hidden from me. Blessings all round!

spiritually minded, we can laugh at all the material ‘ nasties’ that come up. because we understand that God could not possibly be their author. God loves us all, and is enveloping every one of us in
his” everlasting arms of Love” , in the pure atmosphere of Spirit.

Reading over once again the chapter VII, Physiology page 105 in our textbook Science and Health.
Looking for the appropriate quote, the whole chapter is applicable. That’s it.
Be at peace today about the constant urging to get vaccinated. One way or another doesn’t effect our well being. Mrs. Eddy is explicit in her explanations and examples.
Praying for everyone’s immunity as spiritual beings. Apart from the material world. Immortal and perfect.
As a life long Christian Scientist, I wish to express my deep gratitude and love for the thousands of doctors, nurses, care givers and others who are earnestly caring for millions of dear ones suffering from this disease, even knowing that in doing so they are risking their lives.
Yes, Nancy. That is so true!! We can know their protection is their good works, just as Mary said about Florence Nightengale. “Love alone is power”.
I cannot express how grateful I am to realise that Christian Science is there for the Love of man. Not judgmental or constricting in its teachings.
We all have to advance in our understanding and trusting at our own pace and I think it just seems to come naturally….as we experience help and healing ,we just want to go further , to learn more. It is unstoppable!

Being a caregiver to folks of advanced years who are not Christian Scientists, I am not opposed to receiving a covid inoculation if it helps to reduce the fears of those dear ones who depend on me. I know that real protection comes from understanding the all presence and all power of God, and the non power of this phase of mortal belief called corona virus, I mentally declare this truth during my work hours, feeling the shield of Love’s protection for all. Thank you Evan, and David for your reference to the chapter Physiology in our textbook.
Good points Evan. Also one should respect the fears and concern of loved ones, friends and family and society who feel safer if one is vaccinated – although faith in God is the comprehensive protection.
In the final analysis, everything in our human experience is between us and God.

I may or may not get vaccinated, but if I do, it is to comfort the many dear ones in my immediate
experience who seem to have no clue that they are God’s perfect ideas, entirely immune from any and all evil, and therefore seem for now to be ruled by fear. I am not fearful, but still have work to do on this subject!! But, who doesn’t? I appreciate any and all encouragement I can get re this! Our SV Fam is wonderful in this regard. But THINK of the blessings that have come to us all through the Christian Science Movement. Mary Baker Eddy, who listened not to fear and false belief, or all the arguments against the truth she saw so clearly about God and man, sure did listen and follow His/Her Directions! My family has been at odds with me concerning the vaccination. They distance themselves from me as a way to protect me.
Yesterday I got some support from a practitioner. I went and got a shot of nothing.
It’s a .5 mg dose. I got to thinking how much of that stuff is required to make one billion doses?
Distribute them? Track each one of them?
Let’s see? .5mg = 1.764 X 10-5 ounce, Hmm. There are 3785411.8 milligrams in one gallon.
X 2 + how many doses per gallon. = 7,570,823.6 Now there are reportedly one billion ready for distribution. 1 billion / 7,520,823,6 = 132.964160996 gallons for the first dose from only.
Now double that. What is required to administer to the first billion people is 265.928321199922 gallons.
The worlds population is approximately 7.8 billion. Rounding off that would take 2,075 gallons to give every one 2 tiny shots, I think? And that doesn’t include trials and experiments.
A immense project. Distribution and administration is equally immense. Needless to say many will never be inoculated.
There are still many populations of people looking to the skies, seeing airplanes and don’t know what they are. They will not be impacted by this error and do not need a vaccination.
Nor do any of those who are aloof from the material world and separate in their thinking.

On page 96 of S&H Mrs Eddy speaks of this material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. And then again on page 102 she says it’s aggressive features are coming to the front.
She was so wise. I am so grateful that I was raised from a young age in Christian Science. Years ago I had a fear of some particular disease that I went to a practitioner about. I realized from that treatment that there was nothing to be afraid of ever. Error tries to get u to believe in New forms of terror. So when this so called pandemic reared its ugly head. . . . I thought ok here it goes again. Call it whatever u like! Never once fearing it. Christs keynote of harmony “Be not afraid!”
I’ve always liked Mrs. Eddy’s statement from S&H (380:32-1), and I’ve altered it just a bit to relate to the pandemic:.
“Every law of [covid-19], supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God.”
Daily I think of this command “Choose you this day whom ye will serve.” Joshua 15:24 It is a good reminder to make sure that I choose and remain focused on my choice and decision each day to serve God . This means we honor the commandments and all the teachings of Christ Jesus to identify ourselves as the image and likeness of our Father Mother God [See Genesis 1: 27] This helps me keep my thought free of contagion, fear, and the belief in other powers or influences. “Man as the offspring of God, as the idea of Spirit, is the immortal evidence that Spirit is harmonious and man eternal.” [Science & Health p.29:30] All thoughts are mentally measured against this spiritual standard [ the offspring of God] and accepted as true or rejected as false belief. This keeps my thought active and clear of the impositions of the pandemic and other turmoil and filled with the goodness of Gods love for all.
Vaccines are only approved if they are both safe and effective. Allergic reactions are extremely rare, and the clinicians who administer the vaccine would be able to assist if a reaction occurred. Other reported adverse effects have *not* been linked to the vaccines themselves.
It’s not really accurate to say vaccines have dangers associated with them. Some people are allergic to apples, but it would be misleading to say apples have associated dangers. When there is a known risk for a specific group, this group would be carefully monitored in a clinical setting if exposure to apples were somehow required.
Sometimes there is a misapprehension regarding vaccine efficacy. When it’s reported that a vaccine is 72% effective, people are led to believe they would have a 28% chance of severe illness. This really means they have a 72% chance of no infection at all.
People who receive the vaccine have, effectively, a 100% chance of not becoming sick enough to require hospitalization, in the unlikely event that they are infected. Some people do have a high trust in everything the medical community professes, as it sounds like you do, and that is their right, but many have learned the hard way to question what they hear and to consider their options. I’m grateful to know there is a spiritual option that brings safety and good health without any of the negative side effects many fear from vaccinations. There is help at hand for everyone no matter what their beliefs or fears! This pandemic will end.
Yes, I’ve never had any trouble trusting the medical community and medical research. Trusting the treatment can be a useful approach. However, if doctors state or imply that you’ll experience discomfort or your condition won’t improve, that’s where you can get into trouble. That’s where I start to question the approach. You can’t take that in.
I don’t mean question as in thinking they’re lying, or anything. I mean question as in: I wonder if there’s a different way of looking at this? Thanks for your reply!

My Dad, who was a devote Christian Scientist, struggled with this concept of CS vs vaccines, with the seemingly endless vaccinations the army administered, during WWII in Europe far from his home in the US. He worked with a wonderful CS practitioner from Paris. Finally his conclusion was that it is “water to water, and dust to dust “ and that he had more important things to attend. He felt if he did the best he could, wherever he was, he could trust God with the rest.
I have continually thanked God for bringing him safely home!
Yes, I am also very grateful that we talk so openly about vaccines. And Evan declares that it is not neccessary for us as Christian Scientists, understanding the omnipotence and omnipresence of our good God. The class teacher in Berlin who taught me CS mentioned, not to be vaccined necessarily. Once, when the boss of my company I worked fore let a doctor come in order to vaccine us all against flew at that time – we were not forced to do that – I said that I do not want it. They respected it. I did not say why, but in my heart I knew that God is always is vaccinating us with Truth and Love!
